Sandra says this video is too specialised and you lot out there won’t like it. (Unless you happen to want to make a bandsaw mill.) But how could anyone NOT be interested in welding and grinding and drilling?? Especially when things go round and round?!
Perhaps she just means there aren’t many horses in this one - if so, she’s right. (Though there is at least one.)
The plan is to use this to make the best of the few trees we need to fell.
Thank you Mike! Thank you, Jerry!

That looks like some fun!! And very useful too. When I had a little property many years ago, I'd call that type of home-made manufacturing "Recreational Engineering", and it always gave me a big thrill when something worked.

Tim. Please note. Used, or had used, many of these (known there as C4's) in Southeast Asia, particularly Vietnam. One is almost as keen on health and safety rules as the average Vietnamese. However, even the Viets consider a crude, sheet metal blade guard to be ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL. When a wider (also advised for dimensional accuracy. ) blade lets go, the results can be truly horrifying, wherever you're standing. I'm sure you're aware of this, but sometimes a wee nudge can help us stubborn old farts back on the rails.

I watch a lot of builds, and honestly this one had my jaw on the floor trying to figure out who would need such a thing. Then you mentioned logs, and it snapped into place. I'm a little surprised you didn't clean it up a bit, as it would slide much better. This thing is cool, however I can't help but think there's a reason you don't see many saws running on inflated rubber tires..... Cool and scary as hell.

Nice job! If you'd cut the wheels off the other end of Mike's car you could have driven the wheel by way of the drive shaft and even used his engine. He probably would have noticed their absence a bit sooner though. Also, after watching the blade spin down, those brakes you cut off might have been handy to have. One last suggestion, if you release the blade drive before you try to start the engine, it will be much easier for the engine to start.
@WayOutWestx2
@WayOutWestx2 7 жыл бұрын
You're right on all 3 counts, Gary. But the engine/gearbox/clutch/fuel-tank/radiator collection would be just too big, I think. The belt slipped off a couple of times - I think that's why we started it under tension (not sure why the blade was too). It started anyway. I need to put a belt guide on for when it's slack. Yes, should have kept one set of brakes on..

The best wheels to use are the "Donut spares". They inflate to 90 pounds and so you can put a lot more tension in the bands. They are available from junk yards for a few bucks apiece. They get one for every junker that comes in and they never wear out on the car. Therefore there are hundreds that they can't sell so they go cheap.
