Just an initial test cutting aluminum, and I'm totally happy with the results. Next test up is mild steel!
Pretty sure the machine can handle a lot more but just getting this kind of result initially tells me it's absolutely usable for framing projects with aluminum and precision locating features and connections to machine parts. Interference fits and bearing surfaces might not be in the cards, but hey, that's what I have a milling machine for.
