Passion For Dogs

4 жыл бұрын

Welcome to Passion For Dogs! As the name of my channel suggests, I am highly passionate for dogs which has rooted since my childhood and comes naturally to me. This video is dedicated to my furbaby Dazzler ❤️ who passed to the other side not too long ago. It is due to him that I gained the food and nutrition knowledge related to dogs and I would like to share that and other knowledge and tips related to dogs with all you dog lovers and pet parents out there ❤️.
This video is for a healthy homemade dog food recipe that I made for my senior dog. It is a detailed step by step video but the ingredients list and other items that I use are listed below for quick reference. NOTE: I had a senior dog so recipe in the video is according to it BUT for an adult active healthy dog it is suggested that one gives 50-80% protein (including 5-10% organ meat) and rest veggies/fruits/carbs. So in this recipe one would DOUBLE (look for * indicator) all meat and eggs and cut the rice and sweet potatoes by HALF (look for ** indicator) to adjust the quantities.
48oz 90% Lean ground turkey (or other lean protein)**
4oz Chicken Livers**
4 Eggs**
8 cups Sweet potatoes***
8 cups Brown rice cooked*** (or oatmeal or quinoa)
8 cups Vegetables and Fruits combined (2 red bell peppers and 2 apples each time and rest can be switched)
6 tsp Egg shell powder
2 tsp Ginger powder
2 tsp Turmeric powder
2 tsp Himalayan Pink Salt (or Kelp powder)
Ingredients to add after switching off stove:
1 tbsp Pumpkin Puree per day X number of days of food for your dog
1 tsp Fish Oil per day X number of days of food for your dog
Supplements:
Multivitamins supplement -- amzn.to/3GQZoX4
Minerals supplement -- amzn.to/3GVwGEx
Omega 3 and 6 supplement -- amzn.to/3CZROHy
Calcium supplement -- amzn.to/3wkigJi
Probiotics supplement (if needed) -- amzn.to/3qdPed7
Liver support (if needed) -- amzn.to/3BRRyc9
Digestive powder (if needed) -- amzn.to/31xpZs1
Coconut oil: amzn.to/3C7ns6b
Yogurt with probiotics: amzn.to/3K5xreY
Kefir (instead of yogurt): amzn.to/3tfa240
Storage containers: amzn.to/344uwns

Good recipe. You might want to add the egg shells too. They need to be put through a coffee grinder or magic bullet until very fine/powdered. 1/2 tsp. per pound of food.

I wish like you I had started doing this earlier, but hopefully, this will extend their lives a bit. Namaste!

I would not start such a young dog on homemade meal just yet because dogs younger than 1 year have much specific diet needs. IMO, it is better to consult your vet and start/keep him on premium food up to one year and then gradually switch to homemade food. Thanks.

@PassionForDogs
@PassionForDogs 2 жыл бұрын
Hi...yes, it can be stored in the freezer for 3-4 months. In the fridge for up to 4 days. If I make a big batch, I separate it in daily portions (in containers). I keep couple of days of food in fridge and freeze rest. Then daily I put one container from freezer to fridge to defrost for the next day.

Hi...thank you for your comment and question.... I'd think so but I am not a vet so it is recommended to check with your vet before switching food. I'd look into the ratios with ** in the description which is for healthy adult dog. Pups and active dogs will need higher ratio of protein (usually 80-90%) per my understanding.

As with about 99% of all "vet approved" or "vet formulated" recipes, including those used to commercial dog food, the carbs are WAY too high for a canid. Just makes me so sad to view all these DIY videos on youtube that use so much rice and many high glycemic veggies and fruits. The reason that kibble has so much high glycemic carb is for two reasons: 1) It is necessary to make a dough in order to form a shape to cook. All doughs require grain or other starch base; 2) Cheapness. The cheapest fodder is grain and pet food companies seek to make as big a profit as possible. The main reason to cook at home for your pet is to give them a superior diet to kibble for two main reasons: 1) Quality control; 2) More nutritious and species specific for a dog. For some tragic reasons, veterinarians have been so brainwashed in vet school that they actually believe that dogs have evolved to eat the macronutrient ratios that is found in kibble. In other words, kibble is the gold standard in their mind for carb:fat:protein ratios for the lifetime diet of a dog. Don't get me wrong, any dog eating these ratios from a DIY menu using these bad ratios will be much more healthy and happy than a dog forced to eat these same ratios in a dry kibble made with non-human grade, dangerous ingredients. Nuf Said
@PassionForDogs
@PassionForDogs Жыл бұрын
I understand your concern. If you see the description of my post I have explained the increase/decrease of proteins/carbs ratios because what is shown in the video is a recipe for my dog (who could not have a high protein diet due to his medical needs) and for a healthy adult dog the ratios are different. In any case, one should not replace vet's or pet nutritionist's advice with such DIY videos or online information. Such videos are for informational purposes only. Thank you. BTW, if you are a pet nutritionist please contact me personally. Link in About Us page.
