Make your own mineral oil and beeswax finish. Formula I use is 70g beeswax to 1.5 cups of mineral oil.

Since it's a solid how well does it permeate a new board? I've used mineral oil for new cutting boards that I've made and easily went through several cups over several days to get the wood fully permeated.

Just mineral oil is actually very good for that. Bees wax is for thickening from an oil to a grease. I guess if you're trying to store them for a longer time in a somewhat humid environment that sort of thicker layer might help.

LOL - what? You don't want to boil the oil. You use a double boiler in water so the mineral oil and bees wax doesn't get too hot, but hot enough to melt the wax into the oil.

Where can i get mineral oil? Here in Sweden IT seems that it's hard to find. Johnsons baby oil , but they don't sell it anymore.

Mineral oil, it's vaseline oil, which is used in medicine and cosmetics and can be bought at a pharmacy. Vaseline oil is intended for the treatment of surfaces from wood, in contact with food. Increases the natural moisture resistance of wood, facilitates the removal of grease and stains, inhibits the development of microorganisms.

@@DazzaBo Only lost in translation i think. ”Mineral oil” is what’s put in combustion engines for lubrication in the home country of IKEA. The clear liquid aliphatic hydrocarbon referred to in this video I guess is what swedes call ”paraffin oil”! I’m not a chemistry engineer, but I suspect the both are bi- products when your intention is to produce fuel for combustion engines, hence the common name. But one contains aromatic molecules, hazardous to health, the other one doesn’t. Someone please correct me if I’m mistaken!

No this would not be a good finish for wood flooring. For wood flooring I would recommend a harder finish like a polyurethane.

Why let it harden before application? When will in liquid form, a bit more absorption is possible.

you could also pre-heat the item (leather shoes) with some hot-air heat gun before application...

I would like to have a naturel/raw replacement for the mineral oil we don't put it on our skin ever. So we don't want this to be in contact with the wood we use to eat either. Normal we make our natural vaseline with beewax and olive oil, so we don't think we can use the same vaseline with this recipe? What do you think?

Vicky rafael I personally would not use Vaseline. If mineral oil is an issue try substituting coconut oil for the mineral oil

Vicky rafael mineral oil is safe to ingest in small amounts. It's used as a laxative. Pretty sure it's safe to have on skin so it really comes down to a matter of personal preference instead of safety when deciding to leave out this ingredient, which is totally fine if that's what you want

Side note: Vaseline isn't really that natural of a product. Though it's not harmful, it's a byproduct of processing petroleum. Not trying to be a dick or anything, just sayin. If you want a more natural oil, coconut oil does have one of the longer shelf lifes when it comes to plant based oils
