Shop built woodstove from 1/4" plate steel. I found that it needs a larger inlet damper for a proper draft. My favorite
feature is the weighted door handle that does away with a need
for a latch.

You should do a video showing how you built it.

Great build, but I I'd suggest making the door hinges on the side instead of the bottom to make it easier to add wood. Also, if you welded in a baffle, 3" from the inside top of the stove, leaving only 3" from the front open, the smoke will have to come to the front of the stove, over the baffle before it exits the stove in the rear. That way it will burn hotter, capturing more heat and helping to burn up the smoke before exiting the stove. Good luck!

Hi I'm made one from a 24x24 safe. Looks like this one. I need help with the airflow. I think I got the same pipes this post. I have a very small air whole. Smoke come out of the chimney but also come out when I open the safe door when the fire is on. Is there a place where I can see how to do this right?

Very neat touches with the drop door and closing method, the feet look nicely done too, likewise the air intake. Actually, I really like everything about your stove, particularly that you kept the stovepipe diameter to what would work well without being ludicrously wide like too many commercial manufacturers make the mistake of doing! You've done a lovely job, thank you for sharing your video.

I used to make Webster wood stoves. We welded them from the inside. In the back they angled upward going to the pipe. Do you see any smoke problems with that flat design? Because it would be very easy to make a wood stove with that flat design. To make it cook better you should extend the top a couple inches over each side so you don't see the welds.

bob bot i dnt. i put a kind of baffle in mine to draw smoke away from the door when opened... i may try an angled back sometime now.. what is the theory/benefits to that??

I welded stoves for six months on the inside to make them nice and pretty. I would hate to see someone's lungs if they did it for 20 years. I held my breath but I decided I'm going to do something else.

How did you weld it? Would a mig welder work? I see little box wood stoves going for 4K and I have no idea why a little box of metal would cost that much.

If you take the top and let it overhang around all the sides you would not see the welds and give you a bigger surface. You could weld the inside nd then put one inch angle on the corners and take them in place t make it look good. Not hard to make them ook nice.

Hi I just made one out of a safe. 24x24 . I made one. Problem I'm having is that the smoke comes out when I open the door. I think I have the air flow wrong. I see you have the whole on the side . I have a smaller one. I don't know whats wrong. Also where did you buy the chimney pipes and fitting. Maybe I'm missing something. ?
@RPMechanics
@RPMechanics 3 жыл бұрын
you should have a negative pressure in the fire box due to draft from the chimney. The higher the chimney, the more it will pull. My air inlet is too small in this vid and had to keep the door cracked open. Needs to be about the same size as the outlet with a damper mechanism. Air inlet placement needs be located so that air flows through the fire. Without air flow you will have positive pressure in the firebox as you have. The purpose it to stoke the fire with oxygen.

Hey great idea! I made something similar but with a glass door. I tried lighting it when I finished building (without flu) and every time I close the door, the fire dies??? How do you create air intake? Will the flu help to create draught??
@RPMechanics
@RPMechanics 4 жыл бұрын
The stove pipe has to be high enough to make a natural draft and the inlet large enough for adequate flow.

watch his new video called "rebuilding my shop after the fire" very poor design, tho nice welding. seriously, better use proper sized double walled pipe for that size cubic ft stove, not pellet stove pipe from home depot! ...and get a damn proper flange out thru the wall... plywood? you've like already discovered that flaw, as this video is ancient. research this shit brother! be safe!

6" single wall stove pipe has a 18 " clearance to combustible, this clearance is 3"-4" at best. The door latch idea is poor design, if a log inside falls against it, it will open up
