Fun fact: nuclear power stations actually have “everything’s ok” alarms because if there is a problem with a standard alarm system then there is too much of a risk of a serious accident. If the alarm stops working then workers have to assume there is a serious problem whereas an accident could go unnoticed if a standard alarm was broken. Given that Homer works in a nuclear power plant I can’t tell whether this is genius writing or just a coincidence.

@fishyninjja91037 ай бұрын
Homer was a well-written character, because whereas the audience is supposed to percieve him as a blithering idiot, his actual character is one of an imperfect man, one who understands that the world operates in a certain way, but struggles to understand the how. He is very smart, lots of knowledge in there. It's just that he often doesn't account for the context of the world around him, so he gets portrayed as "stupid". The reason he works so well is because of this divergence between the "percieved" character and the "actual" character, which allows us to laugh when he makes mistakes (because we percieve him as dumb), but also care for homer when he feels bad, and even root for him when he shows his best quality: his transparency. He doesn't pretend to love Marge, and is pretty open about his feelings towards her (sometimes to a fault), and as misguided as he is, he still shows lots of love towards his family. On the other hand, Marge loves him, and will always love him, because she doesn't see him as an idiot who does dumb things, but rather as a man with a heart of gold... who does dumb things. She loves him for the good he has in him. There are many moments where he fails as an adult, but he always owns up to it, and tries to be better, for his kids, and for Marge. How cliché, isn't it? For such an amazing character to be good because of the power of love... In conclusion, I believe that Homer is one of the best characters of all time, not in spite of his flaws, but because he deals with them every episode. He feels imperfect, human, but at the end of the day, it makes his transparency and his inherent goodness all the more potent. So if you relate to him for his weaknesses, emphatize with his sad moments, just remember that he has Marge, who loves him for him, and that the when the right people come to your life, they'll love you for who you are too. Just focus on making your strengths as sharp as they can be, and you'll find a relationship, be it platonic or romantic, that'll make you feel like the best, most successful you you can be. It happened to me, and I know it can happen to you too. ~ sincerely, a fan of Homer.
