KZfaq is a great resource for information, but the level of success is directly related to your ability to identify the quality material separate from the crap. Jeff, you and your videos are easily determined to be quality and contain valuable information. I think Vancouver Carpenter also does some quality work, but Home RenoVision DIY is #1 in my book!

Your videos are helpful. I learned the right way to mud and tape drywall from you and did a professional job on a bedroom in our basement last year. I’m reviewing today as I begin the mud and tape process on a play room for our grandchildren. Yes, grandchildren. I am a grandmother finishing drywall. I do a better job than my husband with the mudding- probably because I have frosted more cakes than he has. You have fun and clear instruction method. Thank you. We look for information from you for most of our needs as we finish our basement to add rooms for the 5 grandchildren that are at our house 6 out of 7 days a week. Our next room in the basement is a pantry/ tornado shelter 8x10 room in a windowless corner. Ideas? We are following FEMA standards. We live in the Midwestern part of the US.

Your suggests have reduced my anxiety about doing my the taping myself. I've done relatively small taping, patching, walls and partial ceiling but not the full basement which I am tackling now. Thanks for making these available - they are extremely helpful and adds a bit of confidence. Love the explanations of why... I think I've done most of the mistakes you've mentioned!

I really enjoy your videos , Jeff. You do an excellent job of explaining clearly for the DIYers like me. I’m not a pro, just a homeowner who enjoys renovating! If I have one recommendation for you it would be to use a face mask when handling fine powders. That fine powder makes it into your lungs whether you want it or not so a face mask is a must. over time, inhaling the fine powders can contribute to a variety of respiratory issues. Your lungs will thank you. cheers!

Wanna have fun at Home Depot/ Lowe's? Ask one of the associates for the new self sanding sheetrock mud. See how many they have to ask for help finding it. The 4th person that was called to help me finally figured it out. I wasted 20 minutes but it was a hoot! It also works with self cleaning microwaves. 🤣 Anyway... great set of videos! Okay... that took quite some perseverance to find a hawk. Had to make my own in the end. Just does not exist in Sweden. Then the trowel! Finally found that in stainless and wide AND flexible at Biltema; cheap too. Everything else was relatively easy to find APART from a sealant for my old damaged drywalls. That i found at Flugger shop.... (Sealer Non-drop Sealer) Product Description was... Transparent blue-tinted primer with good penetration. Provides effective base and adhesive surface on mildly chalking and absorbent substrates. Used before painting or installation of wall covering. I THINK its a good alternative to the other silly priced products. I did consider shellac but that seemed a bit awkward. So far your help has been clear, logical and very welcome. I must say i have noticed that a lot of this corner cutting methods from previous owners of my property has left me with what seemed like a mountain of work and little know how from other professionals as to how to fix it. Their advice had been very dodgy after listening to you. Thank you very much for putting this out there. I really needed this. Tack.

Jeff, Great series! I have a few questions. 1: Best practices for clean up and disposal of mud? Can you pour down sink drains in home? 2: After final sanding of walls, is there a need to wipe dust off before painting? I remember you mentioned the negative air helps, but wasn't sure if that gets all dust out. 3: Do you ever, or have a video, apply texture to walls or ceilings? Most homes where I'm from have texture, and I would appreciate a good tips video. Thanks

Any advice besides sweeping and doing a damp cloth over everything to try and get any dirt or grime off the drywall, before I start putting the first coat of mud and tape onto all the seams and nail holes? After tape and mud will prime and paint as well. Thanks for any advice!

I wish I'd seen your sheeting videos before sheeting my entire house - too late now. What's the largest sized gap you can reliably fill? I have a few rooms that were slightly larger than my sheets (or sheets that were cut less than perfectly); I have gaps in some places as large as 1" - can these be filled with mud, or should I be putting some strips of drywall in there first?

Can mud for taping / first coat be mixed too thin? Machine Mud is not available in my area - only USG All Purpose which is much thicker (hard to apply smoothly). Adding a little more water to make it smooth & workable, but wondering if there's any downside if I accidentally thin it a touch too much. Thanks for all your videos and advice....I've learned a lot!

Jeff I just discovered your DIY video series a couple weeks ago an am completely addicted now. You are AWESOME!!!!!!! I realize this is an older video but its timely for me as I’m reno”ing my bathrooms. But I’m going to throw this question at you any way in the hopes that you”ll respond. If I will be tiling over the drywall patch I just installed along the base of my wall do I still need to tape and mud the drywall joints? The tile covers the patch job entirely so can I just start applying tile adhesive? Would love to skip this step if I can but I definitely share and appreciate your mantra of doing it right the first time!!! Keep the videos coming......and I will be glued to them (lol). TKM in Olympia.....PS am big Canadian fan:)

Hi Tina, good news, you don't need to repair the drywall if you are going to tile and the drywall has been screwed to something. Let the adhesive or cement do the heavy lifting here. save your effort. Cheers!

Some people add salt to speed up setting of base coat.. (Not me). I have used lemon to slow it down though, in real hot weather.

Not being negative but it seems like every video about finishing drywall your saying to use a different type of mud. Ive seen you do videos with all purpose to do joints and corners now this video your using sheetrock 45.
