Hey friends! We are smack dab in the middle of 3rd grade & I've realized that "The Good & The Beautiful" homeschool curriculum is just not the right curriculum for us!!! But I didn't panic...not completely lol...I made some calls, did some research and chose a new curriculum for 3rd grade called (CLE) or Christian Light Education!
Sometimes when your mama gut tells you something's not right...you just have to listen to it! Even if that means throwing everything out of wack for a bit in order to set things in the right direction.
We are soooooo loving this new curriculum that I wanted to do a video to share with you just how great it is!!
Join me today while I do a flip through of the CLE 3rd grade curriculum for the following subjects: Language Arts, Math, Bible & Reading!
Thanks for hanging out with me today! If you found this video helpful PLEASE give it a thumbs up! Also, if you're interested in a more in depth flip through of any particular subject...just leave me a comment below and let me know!
If you think CLE might be something you want to try, I'll leave the link below so you can check it out!

I love CLE because my daughter can just do it on her own. I have woken up several times and found her doing her workbook all by herself. I love how straight forward they are. I love that she is learning morals and values. A great consumer-friendly curriculum.

Everything you share is EXACTLY what we’re experiencing - we just want to get through it. Too many games & fluff just add to the “misery” of doing school 😂 I will have a 5th-grader next year, and he is needing something that is straight-forward, and CLE is exactly that! We did TGTB math for the last 3 years, and it IS a beautiful curriculum…but it takes us nearly an HOUR to get through Math every day. And Language Arts was next to nothing this year. Appreciate all this amazing info! It’s still making waves 3 years after you uploaded! 🎉 Question: Do you still use CLE all these years later? Still enjoy it?

We use a secular curriculum for our main curriculum, it’s a software based one. My kids love the abeka streaming videos (we watch them for Bible) and I wanted to get some workbooks that were Christian based. This reminds me of ace paces, but with a dash of Mennonite. We just started TGTB 4 today... and I was questioning if we should stick to it or not because many of these things that you are showing, my daughter never learned it in the LA 3 with them either... so I feel like she really hasn't got a lot of the stuff she should have. We are supplementing with Spelling You See, WriteShop, and Fix It Grammar...and she can't stand the readers so I feel like we're skipping half of it anyway! These look great! We just switched to Math You See too from TGTB and that's been such a good change.

@@HomeFreeAlaska my first year I had no idea what i was doing and I also decided last minute to do it. I ended up doing Time4Learning and by the middle of the year, my daughter got bored with it. Too repetitive even though she was doing well. So we switched to a brainquest workbook and completed that. This year I'm doing the relaxed homeschool. Not exactly biblically based but I try to supplement with a daily devotional. We started off good but just can't seem to get into it. Then 2nd quarter between the holidays and my mom passing away...it's been a huge challenge to do much. I thought a fresh start and a new curriculum possibly for the 2nd half of this year or into next year would help. 🤔 Just deciding on a curriculum is the hardest part.

I agree with you. The reasons I loved TGAB L/A initially, became the reasons I ended up disliking it when utilized. IMHO, It was a lot of extra stuff/time for a small amount of direct language arts learning in return. I realized for our family of three children, having a straight forward, to the point curriculum for L/A would be much more time efficient. (I do still love TGAB science since it’s family style). Your review is so helpful, I’m loving what I’m seeing from CLE. I especially like that L/A is separate from the reading for the extra attention to comprehension and contextual vocabulary. My daughter finds it boring and the concepts can be a bit confusing and level k is more like first grade and it moved kind of fast too and your right too much fluff. We have stopped it for now and I ordered kindergarten cle. I hope it is more fun for her even though she is reading well right now I feel maybe I should of got level one but we will see.

We are having THE SAME issue with TGTB, my son actually said “when is this going to speed up?” 🤣 SO, my question is what level of TGTB did you complete before you switched to this? We only have 51 lessons left in TGTB old level 2 math and I see things in the CLE flip through you did he hasn’t quite learned yet. I’ve looked over the placement tests, I’m just nervous with placement because I think that was a small part of the problem with TGTB. He bombed the placement test even though he knew everything and so the first year he was placed in the wrong level and was bored! I should have trusted my gut!

Hi Kayla! We actually started 3rd grade with TGTB & we made it 1/2 way through the year when I decided to switch him to CLE. I was so unhappy with the level 3 TGTB I honestly didn’t care how it compared to CLE…I switched him & told myself we’d figure it out! There are always some new concepts with a new curriculum but we just took them as we came and got through it day by day. I didn’t see any major issues or anything that was significant at all. I’m was scared too…I’d never switched curriculums but I’ll tell you, it was the best thing I did for both me & Parker! 💜

Hi Michele, we love CLE. This will be our 2nd year using it and it works really well for our homeschool. It's designed to teach the children to work more independently which is really nice for a busy mom that needs to multi task. The lessons are straight forward and not a lot of fluff which is a must for me. I don't want, nor do we need to spend 6-8 hrs doing school each day. So the lessons are really to the point, but still in depth and challenging. :) I hope that helps!

Okay this is crazy... we just started homeschooling this year. But I have a 4th grader, Parker... (And a 1st grader named Wyatt lol) and my best friend homeschools and has 9 kiddos and told me about Christian light! I'm struggling with the "fluff" with the language arts too and am probably switching the LA to CLE. He does well with the 4th grade math, not as much fluff as the 1st grade math IMO. But thought the similarities in our family (and friend) were crazy! 💙 I also am a bit ocd and feel like I have to read the whole lesson 🙈

Do you have your son do all the math problems? we love cle math but my son is getting bogged down with so much review. He is also easily distracted and bored so it is taking forever to finish the 5 pages daily. Thanks for your review

Hi! So I do make Parker do all the math. The only thing I have cut out completely are the speed drills in the back. But for us, Parker needs the repetition, so even something I feel he’s mastered, I still make him do it. I totally get what you’re saying about him being distracted LOL! Oh how I know. Parker is this way with every subject. I would recommend taking a min before each lesson & continue crossing off what you feel he’s mastered. Or…maybe break up math. Do 1/2 and then the other 1/2 after a different subject…just so it’s not all math for sooooo long! One thing I found that works with Parker is I’ll set a timer for certain sections of math & if he can get it done by the time it goes off, I give him a reward. Something simple like 10 min outside on the trampoline or maybe a quick bike ride with me after school. Something I know he loves. He gets SUPER excited about this and it makes it a game & not so boring! If he doesn’t make the timer, he doesn’t get punished he just doesn’t get the reward. I know every child is so different so this may not do anything for yours but this works well for Parker. Maybe give it a try! 💗

I’ve used Horizons only for my son. But it’s just way too much. Strongly academic but too much for my son who’s high functioning autistic but very smart. I will be switching him next year for his 3rd grade to Easy Grammar and Writing Essentials (and Sonlight book readers). I’m teaching my kindergarten how to read right now. But I was thinking about using Christian Light for 1st grade language arts. How much would you think a child spends on it daily? I’m trying short and sweet. I think the L/A might take 30 min or so. Depending on how focuses she is. 😊 It’s straight to the point, rolls right into each section fairly quickly. There’s good repetition work but not so much that she’ll get bogged down. It’s just enough to keep the concepts fresh in their brain! 😊

There will be things you will have to explain to your kids (or Google them yourself) as it’s written by Mennonites, such as old school farming tools LOL And all Bible verses are King James Version (but don’t let that deter you!!!). Hi Tina, great video and very informative thank you. As a follower of Christ Jesus I have a question about exchanging bad language words with other words. What I mean is in the ears of our Lord, is it ok with Him to change words like Fxcking to the words like Freaking even though it still means Fxcking in God's hearing ? I only ask as there are many confessing to be children of God, yet are still using these expressions of the world, that are manipulations of vulgar words instead of saying the actual words out aloud and believe that our Lord and God is ok with it.? Your doing amazingly and this is just a thought about words we still use that are of the world and not our Father God or Lord Christ Jesus. I pray that you and your family are truly blessed as you also come to Him as a child to learn.
