Off-Road Mechanics CREEPER - No Welding - DIY How To

Todays project is a DIY mechanics creeper for working under vehicles and in low spaces. No welding is required as the wheel brackets are made from a single piece of steel tubing that was cut out using only an angle grinder. In the video I'll show you how I cut and fabricated the wheel assembly, laying platform and even a little bit of crude upholstery ;)

Nice! However I, would have added 4 small sunken slots / compartments next to the handles for bolts / spanners, no slide out tray like you mentioned but much simpler.

Interesting, I just started a build on a creeper, because my third Harbor Freight one failed. I get around 1 to 2 years out of them. Decided to build my own, but it required some welding. Liked your design so will copy with a few minor changes, side pockets for tools and maybe center wheels, although like the larger wheels (more rolling surface). So, thanks.

Really great project. As someone who goes over most tools 250lbs limit I was happy to see you showed the over 300lb weight test (285 and dropping, I’m not there yet!). If you left the edges of your tubing to the depth of your plywood could you have just added a strip of your plywood and just bolted thru the two layers it increase your “W” strength? Would the extra inch in height cause much issues with clearance? I does seem to be a great toy for fathers and daughters. Maybe add a seatbelt and have your daughter tow you behind her mustang 😄. Thank you! Yes, I’m pushing that range as I usually range from 225-240lb depending on my will power to resist grabbing a couple donuts on my drive to work or not🤦‍♂️. But I’m glad you’re on a good path. I’m going to need to do something soon as well. I just need to work it into a ‘project’ of some sort…..diy concrete weights….the ‘homestead’ diet (I’d eat only game meat and things from the garden’…..or some other sort of thing to motivate me🤪. Project based motivation seems to be the best thing to keep me consistent.

Well the moustache was grown and shaved between the last video and this one. And my elk hunt….well, let’s just say a lot of things just didn’t align and I opted not to. But I will have an archery hunt in December which might lend better to filming….

Joe, I am wiring a container for a small shop. I was wondering how, or if, you grounded your shop. I've experienced light shocks while in my container. Please show us what you did to ground things. Thank you for the content. Chet.

Hi Chet, My grounding essentially runs back to my house panel, where it is grounded below the slab with a large copper rod. I intended to do a rod at the shop, as well, but just never had issues. For your situation though, it’ll depend. You could locally ground via your panel near the shop which would be more ideal as it’s closer. And it’d be connected to your panels installed ground connections. But its hard to say for sure without seeing it. If you can, I’d see if you could get an electrician or friend with expertise to check it out.

Snazzy project. My problem is whenever I try to make something like this, even if I have most of the material, and up spending more on making it than just being able to go buy a cheap one at harbor freight. So I'm going to resist the urge to build this. Good video though.
