Andrew walks around a room !
In an effort to demonstrate the performance of Bass Frequencies in a room Andrew from Home Theatre Engineering shows us how room modes (bass levels) vary throughout a room and this leads to why room design, planning, bass management and calibration are so vital to a consistent outcome.

The variation in volume throughout the room from the tone generator was vast, I knew there was differences in volume but that was an eye-opening experience. That's why I have 6 x 12" subs in my lounge room so no matter where you sit it sounds good >>>> I ONLY HAVE TWO SEATS [true story]. Thx for the video it was extremely informative and I look forward to more on this topic. CHEERS. Curious >> Does the dip in frequencies indicate that the frequencies are bouncing around the room and coming back and cancelling itself out >>> or >>> are the frequencies bouncing around the room and where there are hard surfaces it reflects back and plays louder and where there are soft surfaces it reflects back and causes dips [softer tones] ????

Hi thanks for the comment and the feedback. As to your “curious” question.. your first suggestion was correct. They are standing waves that effectively come back and where 2 positive areas meet its loud and where 2 negative areas meet its almost silent. Based on the acoustic dimension of the room

Thanks, another great video. I can see your report was showing dB rating across the range of low frequencies. Does the signal generator sweep across all low frequencies? Can you also share what product you were using to generate and report on room acoustics?

Hi so what I believe you are referring to was the REW room simulation. That was not aa report of the room that I was testing just a demonstration of the difference with multiple subs. With regard to the signal generator yes it can sweep across all low frequencies and much more than that... The product was an apple app called Audiotools. It has multiple capabilities but can get expensive depending on which module you want access too, It has been my go to tool for a very long time in conjunction with the same developers app for AppleTV the signal generator by studio six digital.

Thank you Andrew for always being so informative and educational. I think it's a travesty that your channel only has 15.8 K subscribers, when horrible channels have 100 K or more. Thanks again for al the information.

Whilst I couldn’t hear it on an iPhone I could actually feel the variances in the subwoofer output as you moved around.

Please explain how demonstrating room modes, something most people don't actually get to experience but a major factor in correct room design is a promo? If this is the case then all our videos are promo's and if the public feels this way, we will stop producing them because we earn nothing from KZfaq ($95.00AUD last month) and it takes hours of our time. Maybe you would like to add a bit more detail to your comment?
