Ok so in this video, Andrew inspects a customers room built by a company calling themselves experts, shows us what he found and some of the steps he took to fix it.

Yes- the key is you must educate YOURSELF! All these shops are corrupt and lack knowledge. Do the homework yourself. Direct the contractors. Hire a good calibrator. There is Zero need for a middle man to charge a margin.

@@Fluterra Most shops are stretched way to broadly and really might be competent at something like whole home audio or automation and just do Home Theater as a side gig. If you're not an aficionado it might not be an issue but to me it is a bit unethical to charge 5 figures for a home theater when you don't know what you are doing with equipment, calibration, integration, etc.

Courageous of the owner for allowing you to post a video of this mess! There's nothing worse than cleaning up someone else's mess! I bet if 'home theatre engineering' had the chance you would have loved to been able to start this from the beginning! You've done a pretty good job considering what you got to work with!

This is great -- please more of these type of videos, as well as more calibrations! Would love to see before and afters (with the lights out) and discussion of how the interplay of the room with the specific equipment the client caused issues. Great job, keep em coming!

I'm confident that my $4,000 audio setup, in my acoustically treated room, beats what that poor guy was experiencing in that $100k room! Whomever setup that room is an absolute joke of a company and should be taken to court for what they did IMO!

Yep that’s how we feel too! We see this so often it is heartbreaking. And yes a well setup system of any value will outperform a badly setup system at any price!

@Mr Do most people do. The surrounds can be different make of speakers and it won't make too much of a difference. As long as they are good speakers. Plus have similar sensitivity dB as the main speakers and the centre channel. The centre channel you should ideally stick with the same manufacturer as the front left and right speakers. With a similar sensitivity dB rating.

Would love to see more videos like this. I feel we can learn more about HT and acoustics from this kind of thing than those perfect showhome vids where some guy just shows you his $15K AV rack for 10 seconds without going into any detail.

I just found out my father in law has an OLED TV, 5.1 speaker set up, ultra HD blue ray player, and a HDMI 1.4 RECEIVER. He’s been buying 4K blu rays for years and watching them in 1080p without HDR. And the auto brightness was also on. So sad.

Thanks for the comments, but I need all the help I can get here... I basically have 3 Infinity IRS V's for my LCR. These are dipole speakers. (72" tall planar magnetic drivers) My surrounds again are like the mids/tweeter section of the same speakers.. (50" tall) Dipoles. Even my Atmos speakers use much much smaller versions of the mids/tweeters and again can be dipoles. Where in the heck do I start as far as speaker placement !! as well as AT screen material?

How far should the speakers be from a micro perf screen & what does it prevent from being too close? Also can the speakers be closer to a woven screen? Thanks

elixr ah great question. The best answer is check with manufacturers or in fact the best best answer is to measure the comb filtering and increase the gap until it has reduced significantly or gone. There are different microperf screens so it does vary we aim to get about 12 inches or 30cm. Yes speakers can be closer to a woven screen. It’s a bit more like the speaker grill than a sheet of plastic. We have seen significant detrimental effects including some room eq like trinnov not working if this is not done right.

Not at all confusing. LG OLED has true blacks, LG Nanocell has dark grey blacks. No contest if you want proper blacks. If you want high brightness and aren't fussed about true blacks, go Nanocell..

I feel for the guy. For the 100k not even the basics seems right which makes you wonder what more they've screwed up if they did the whole cinema. Hope he gets it sorted in the future when the energy comes back. At least I would have been exhausted for days maybe weeks if I spent 100k and then to find out all these issues. Even after the patch job. :/

Great video. Just arrived on your channel and think I'll be subscribing! Interested in what projector you'd recommend here for 'great hdr' in that setup? I have a similar sized room and screen and run a JVC X500 that I put in a few years ago. Still serving well for HD and will happily play back 'faux K' , but I'd like to start thinking about the next beamer. (previously I had a Sony 1721 CTCRT, so you'll gather I link my blacks). Like here, my room is fully light controlled, so wondering what the options might be. Thanks in advance, I'm now going to sheepishly push my speakers back a little as they are tucked close up against my AT screen.....

Hi and welcome. So here’s the thing.. and we have addressed this in a few videos. HDR or high dynamic range is more about the white (and primary) luminance levels than blacks. Sure black is a good target but it’s a small part of the equation so a projector with good light output 2200 lumens of good quality light or more in genuine terms is the way to go but then no projector reaches HDR spec which is why Dolby won’t certify any projector with Dolby Vision. So I would be looking at any RGB LED or laser projector for primary luminance so any higher end Sony, JVC, or Barco etc will start to produce good results but there are so many other factors including screen size and type, room lighting control etc. lots of luck and nice having you on the channel

You really needed to have mentioned your budget and screen size. Generally, though, I would very much recommend getting ahold of the current Sound and Image magazine as they have the products of the year awards, including projectors at different price points. It's available through Zinio magazine in digital form if you're unable to get the hard-copy from your local newsagents, assuming quite possibly wrongly, given this is KZfaq, that you're Australian?

Wow. The most surprising aspect to me is not just how dire this guy’s install and design actually is, and that so-called professionals actually set it up that way for him. The most surprising aspect for me is that the user lacked the knowledge to know this was wrong in so many ways. I guess being an enthusiast myself, and that, over the years, having made me pretty knowledgeable, I never really figured there were people out there with that kind of money without really knowing what they’re doing. I run a 7.5.6 system, with visuals provided by a VW760ES hitting a custom-built (by myself) 133” 1.9:1 (4096x2160) 1.1 gain screen. I have shakers installed in the seating, and all the wiring is in-ceiling and under-floor. Putting all this stuff in, testing speaker placement, measuring, eliminating reflections and standing waves, and calibrating the projector was all part of the fun for me, and gave me the opportunity to stretch my experience. As you walk around that room, I’m just shaking my head in disbelief. I would personally be seeking compensation from the installers. I mean, they even sold him the wrong projector! How can you spend $100,000 and spend only about 5-6% of that on the most important single component?! Granted, my setup was not cheap at around AUD70k. But it also includes a top-TOP-spec HTPC and content server, and absolutely destroys this room in terms of audiovisual fidelity. A little knowledge goes a long way.

Hi Good question and yes I missed the detail there. So we spent some time measuring the room mode and sub phase level etc and found one sub could come out and into the area to the right with the AV rack the other remained behind the screen but moved back against the wall and rotated so that the force of the driver was dispersed and did not impinge on the screen. We are ended up with some good smooth bass.

I've seen this many times, ie usually wealthy and/or well paid professionals write big checks for what appears to be a nice e looking theater superficially, but often has fundamental acoustic problems, poor AV gear selection and substandard sound/video due to combinations of poor design and config/calibration

The owners must have been so disappointed after spending $100K on the room and the room itself looks fantastic but to have had such a bodgey done on A\V setup, the results must have been incredibly underwhelming. I think I would be going to the ombudsmen over misleading credentials as an A\V installer.

How far back from the perforated screen should the speakers be placed?

It depends on the material and the hole pattern. Usually two or so feet sometimes. With a woven screen you can often place speakers within mere inches to about a foot off the screen. Sometimes powerful ported subs need a bit more space in order for the ported air to not ruffle the screen or the transparent "skirt" below the screen.

@@mfkhometheater7742 I would choose a woven material like from Seymour before a perfed screen. A lot depends on seating distance, if your projector has enough calibrated lumens to compensate for light loss (woven material normally has less gain and a bit more leakage), etc. Perfed screen material that does not cause moire or other visual artifacts with 4k or even 8k projectors can be more expensive than an equivalent 4k/8k compatible woven screen. Make sure your screen wall speakers' acoustic center lines up close to the center of the screen. You also want to lock the audio with the picture. There are diagrams online. If you are seated much lower than this center line, you can tip your speakers a tad to aim slightly towards the main seats. This is done in commercial theaters and large dubbing stages.

@@dan_hitchman007 Looking at their web site I think I will give the Center Stage UF a try. The XD wouldn't be large enough if using the angle cut they suggest. I'm planning on making the screen around 14 ~ 15' wide in 2.35:1.

@@mfkhometheater7742 Then you want all three, matching vertical speakers firing behind the screen. If you do auto side masking for 2.20:1, 2.0:1, 16x9, and possibly 1.33:1 ratios, then the black mask material must be acoustically transparent as well. I would contact them directly and get their best ideas. You may need a curved screen for a width that long. Also need more of a light canon projector for that screen size.

Can you guys help here a bit?....... Yes, I could see tons of things that were wrong, but.... Why was it important to move the front 3 speakers farther from the screen? In 2 speaker audio we are told to try to keep the speakers out from the front wall.

Good question. It’s quite a detailed answer though. Moving them back is about getting away from the screen. That’s one issue. The problem is comb filtering with screens. When you move speakers against a wall you get boundary gain and SPBIR or speaker boundary interference response. So the solution there is speakers designed for that or build a baffle wall or use acoustic treatment. Hope that answers your question

@@HomeTheatreEngineering Also you did mention that you lifted them up so the tweeters are at ear level, but it might be a bit better to show or at least mention how it's not the best to have speakers on a ledge like that if they are pushed way back from the edge. Especially with horns like that and the dispersion, but it's worth mentioning or showing since you said you put them further back, its an easy thing to put a center on a shelf or top of a cabinet and have it pushed back 5-6+ inches and have the sound being affected as opposed to having it raised up a bit or flush with the edge of whatever surface they are on.

RULE #1 - never use dipole, bipole or any not directional speakers for Atmos Setups! Poor guy... 100k 🤦♂️

You can use bipole (not dipole) surround side and rears if you are sitting in the prime seating locations about four feet or closer to those speaker positions as in a narrow room. It helps a bit with hotspotting.

Great video Andrew 👍 Absolutely shocking.. I know you won't, but this company truly deserves to be name and shamed ripping this poor guy off and delivering an underperforming room.. The speaker layout including the L C R were shocking, this is totally unacceptable. You did a great job in the time you spent there, well done 👌. Wow thanks for that comment. Much appreciated. We are thinking heavily about this whole naming and shaming thing. It wasn’t and isn’t our intention to be a negative channel our aim is education, help, support and accurate factual advice. Our concern is about going down a slippery slope. It might get us views but that’s not the goal either. Yet...we do feel that when “professionals” do this they fully deserved to be named and shamed. It’s a tough call. Maybe start a different channel or ??? Any ideas? We are looking for thoughts on this.

@@nektarios1594 No specific web sites I'm aware of, however ... It's merely lowering the sub's level because your close to it. As far as apartments/condos, with adjacent neighbors, the goal is to lower the level of sound that impact the neighbors. Yes, there's other dramatic approaches that employ expensive products. However, near-field subs facilitate multiple benefits.* Most relevant benefit in this case is a simple reduction in level. Utilizing a near-field sub is simple, just place it wherever it ideally blends with the decor/seating ... but as physically close to the listening position as possible.** In doing so, to balance the system response, you'll need to lower the sub's overall level. So, the entire point of this is to limit the impact of 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 sound from impacting 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 space, ... and there's no sound deadening techniques etc., like lowering the the sub in the first place. Another approach that's often helpful is 𝘦𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 isolation of the subs, and/or the main loudspeakers up off the surface in which they're sitting. This limits the physical coupling and transmission of the energy thru the structure and into the adjacent unit. Anything from inexpensive foam, rubber, or best is Sorbothane ... it's superb (available from; ISOLATE IT!). ---------------------------- *(benefits include; significant smoothing of bass response, higher level of tactile response) **(ideally, place the sub so it fires directly into the rear of your seating, within 2" if possible, or two subs ... one on either side of the primary listening position) In conclusion, you would find the highest concentration of enthusiasts willing to help in this at; AVS Forum, DIY Subwoofers/Speakers area. I've to laugh. We get so many of these types of cowboys in Adelaide that have been on AVS (my dad is bigger than your dad forum) far too long and think they are experts. I hear myself saying, look mate you just sell A/V, leave the installs to trained professionals. I am in the planning stages of building an HC that's 10x7x3, with storm audio, Krix speakers and Barco projection. Would love to get one of you guys in during the process for calibration amongst other things. Maybe I'll add that to my Santa list :-)

Sorry to say...but most of the so called trained professionals are a joke, terrible in fact. This is why forums like AVS even exist. Certainly not saying that everyone on AVS know what they’re talking about, but many of them are very knowledgeable indeed.

The build quality of the room is not horrible but with a theater room at this price point a building contractor should consult or team up with a cinema designer before starting.

Absolutely and that is our point. In this case the owner was also the builder. His only real fault was thinking and trusting that he was dealing with experts. But in fairness the company does claim to be “Home Theatre” experts it’s on their shopfront and website! I can’t quote it exactly as it would give them away but the talk about “expertise” and “best” in terms of home cinema so you can’t blame a layperson for trusting in them. That’s tough. Would've love to hear a before & after demo test but since you wz in a hurry all good. Now that I think about it I don't want to hear such a bad speaker layout. If you can get the owner's reaction next time would be great my friend.

Hi yes we would love to do that. The struggle we have is being a full time business and in high demand vs trying to get these videos out. (Plus we aren't very good filmmakers ;-) ) but we are trying to find better and faster ways to do this. The final struggle is truly recording the room in a way that can actually be properly reproduced. But yes we agree with you

KZfaq only outputs 2 channel audio(aka stereo) so it's not really feasible to accurately portray the acoustics of a given room let alone the fact that accurately recording 3D audio is pretty complex/ expensive. Its a good thing to note because all the "atmos" and other 5.1/7.1 trailers here on youtube that everyone seems to laud and praise are not even close to the real thing.

Nice of you to save his setup. I am just baffled (pun intended) over where the 150thousand went 🤔 I calculated on a much better setup and got it to 30 000$ 😱 I saw you mentioned in a comment that automation was 50grand. Here I'm thinking some zigbee led strips a couple of bulbs, Samsung smart things hub and an RF transmitter for the projector=totals 500$ only. Seems like a very dim Sony projector around 7grand. Bad choice I'd say 2500lumens is minimum even in blacked out room. He can buy UST 4k projectors from Dell, LG, Vava or Epson or the much better Epson 9400 for 7000$. And coming to the sound. What are those crap small no-name speakers? I know US and AU have other brands than EU and yes Klipch Paradigm are shit rock music speakers. But c'mon in my amall apartment I have proper floor speakers from Bowers Wilkinson. So even If he had more expensive and best sounding speakers (Dali, B&W) for his setup that is around 10grand. Total with Marantz or Nad receiver with room calibration: 2 000$ + 10 000$ = 12 000$ Lastly is that projector screen and lack of room acoustics. Firstly you get an ALR screen in Grey with gain 1.4 atleast. Screen Inovations, Elite Screens whatever...miles better black levels. For acoustics i don't see any bass traps, QRD diffusors, ceiling diffusors. I just hope that ceiling is foam fake instead of wood panelling cause in that cause every ornament will act as a horn for focusing aoundwaves downwards 🤣😅 Total=5 000$

Ok way more than I can answer here. The house is massive with full control 4 automation throughout. Not just the cinema room. Your comments about speakers are also incorrect these are not bad at all (the LCR I am talking about) they are MK speakers and are actually pretty damn good. Re screens. This is a fully light controlled room so we would definitely not put an ambient light rejecting screen in a room with no ambient light. Lots of reasons 1 being we want an acoustically transparent fabric screen. Re gain we spec nothing over 1.3 for reasons of hot spotting and directionality. Finally we would Never spec “proper floor standing speakers” in a dedicated cinema room for so many reasons. Lastly Acoustic treatment .. far too lengthy a topic to go through here but no bass traps. We will explain that one day when we get time but keep watching our videos. Thanks for engaging and we appreciate your comments.

Hi. We had Dolby left and right rear plus Dolby left and right surround. The 2 speakers left over. They were best positioned to be task as atmos (that or nothing) so that’s what we opted for.

@@JunkerDC first of all we love that you are engaging with this and asking great questions. Ok so the issue was as this is an ongoing discussion between the client and supplier we were limited in what we could do to “make good” as this is still ultimately up to the original company. We are waiting to hear. Once we know the outcome we hope to go back and truly work this room over but the original supplier may take that on first. The answer there is that no we couldn’t do anything but had we been given the chance we would have treated the wall and built a baffle wall as well. Great comment thanks!

This theater was build buy construction working with little to no knowledge of av. Most av guru don't have construction skills on that level. That's where thing get messy. A lot of these companies hires the people with building skills and skip all the AV pro side on things. That's how you end up with setup like this. They also sell candy bar and stuff that looks good and doesn't care how it will affect the AV.

No it wasn’t. It was designed supplied and installed a company that specialises in home theatre. The actual construction was by the home owner but based on info given to him by the “specialists”.

The $100k is definitely a bit misleading. That includes the room, furniture, and automation. By my calculation there's maybe $40k worth of gear in that room tops. That Klispch TXH setup is around $10K, the projector is $10-$15K if I heard the model right, $5k screen, and another $5-10K in electronics. The rest is room and automation stuff.

Nope! The room and furniture were over and above we did actually explain that in the video. The actual price charged was $150 including automation apparently. We were advised about $50K was automation but as we said we are currently taking the clients word for this but that is only one side of the story.

I'm right now in the middle of planning my home theater. Haven't bought anything yet and in fact we're actually moving 2 walls to open the theater room up. But the problem for many of us is "who to trust." I've watched a zillion videos and still I'm guessing that I could have easily made the same mistakes! Why just yesterday certain advisors recommended a Stewart Filmscreen microperf screen knowing that I like sitting very close (9 ft away) to the screen. It was only by pure luck that I came across a short comment in a video where a guy mentioned that you can see the perforations when sitting 11-12 feet away: see here at the 2:52 mark ( kzfaq.info/get/bejne/npucZNuFyL_be2g.html ). That would have been over $4k wasted had I not heard that comment! There is seemingly danger at every turn, whether it be projector, screen, speakers, receiver, or whatever. Now, after watching this video (which is most appreciated by the way) but after watching this video, my guard is way up, almost so much so that I'm paralyzed to move ahead. I see guys who put their speakers behind their screen, spaced apart seemingly very much like what was shown in this video, who seem to love the arrangement: see here at the 1:48 mark ( kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qNSklriorJi0mmQ.html ). Till I saw this video, I was just gonna imitate that guy and buy those speakers. So now what do I do? Doubtful that I'll order and read the $40+ book on "Sound Reproduction" mentioned above. I love that that reference is there, but I seriously doubt that I'd be able to read the book and understand it well enough to choose the proper speakers and place them correctly. Whether or not you realize it, you speaker guys speak a language all your own! Maybe I need a "For Dummies" book. Lord knows I fit the category!

I share your pain. This is what we are fighting against/for. In terms of knowledge and expertise (within reason) you get what you pay for but please make sure whoever is guiding you is truly qualified. Look for ISF PVA HAA THX certification as a start. We see room design/planning as just another component as valuable as any amplifier or projector. Obviously we would like to put our hand up to assist you but maybe watch a few more of our videos and decide if we are for you?? I wish you well and yes you have truly identified the current state of our industry..

Honestly, as a layperson like this guy was, at this cost I'd just have gone with the ridiculous USD 30000 88 Inch LG OLED and and a decent 7.1 or atmos setup, and not have dealt with the hassle of a projector. This looks lame for 100000 for AV alone, even on a KZfaq video, and I'm barely knowledgeable about these things.

I’d love to see one of those TV’s though I think the point is a projector shouldn’t be a hassle. It should just be great from the outset. You can certainly get more bang for your buck with a properly setup projector screen plus the stunning advantage of properly located speakers behind the screen for bang in imaging. That room is gigantic mate. An 88'' OLED Would have still looked tiny in there. Proper room treat, JVC NX9, 4 in-ceiling atmos speakers, a 9 channel (4x surrounds, L/C/R and 2x rears) surround sound setup from a decent brand (Arendal, JTR, PSA IMO), 2-3x gigantic monstrous subwoofer from PSA/JTR for proper HT impact, Trinnov sound processor and amplification, a mini DSP 2x4HD to calibrate and integrate the subwoofers etc. Then rest of the money should have been bumped into room treatment (sound & visuals) seating and screen (with either an ALR screen if he wants the lights off) or an acoustically transparent screen if he wants the best possible sound. Finally a some HT automation to make QOL easy and probably still have 30k left for HTPC, PS5, Panasonic UB9000, Lumagen image processor etc. Then I would have pumped a final 2-3k into building 2-3 hoverBOSSEs with the ultimate in tactile response for his HT. The setup he has currently is just really really really sad and I can't believe that cost him 100k.

We just wish to know if it’s straight out scam for the poor guy or poor calibration v wrong match for a room / requirements. But, I find it highly unbelievable that any AV installer even with the very basic of knowledge could have designed such a room and executed it so badly. Something just doesn’t add up! I might be completely off target here but I remain very sceptical.

Probably not on this scale but consistently images not fitting screens. Settings incorrect and speakers in wrong places. So, sadly we are not surprised. We can only hope that they see this and adjust their thinking.

Hi. I live in the uk but this is appalling. Problem is 95% of your viewers would have known straight away that this is an amateur job. But if you don’t know you are relying on the expertise of the experts you go to. If it’s not a regulated industry (I assume it’s not) it’s going to be hit and miss about whether you get cowboys or professionals. Many of my friends would be clueless. As long as there’s a picture and sound they assume that’s how it’s meant to be.

It's criminal how this client has been treated. My Brother and I have been into HT now for about 17 years and largely self-taught. However, if I were building a room I'd engage with someone like Home Theatre Engineering. My Brother just bought a Trinnov Altitude 16 from them and just the Customer Service ordering processes was incredibly professional. We look forward to Calibration Day! Andrew and Enzo are the real deal!

The installer should be run out of town. That's atrocious!! There is also a woeful lack of acoustic treatments within the room and behind the screen. That needed to be addressed as well. Part of the room will have to be torn into with new cable laid and the surround and Atmos speakers re-installed properly. Then repatch.

Oh, I've seen as bad or worse. You should watch a particular installer group out of Texas who actually post on KZfaq. Many times the speakers are located incorrectly in relation to the screen and the seating locations. The screens are either too big or too small in proportion to the room and seating, etc. The wrong kinds of speakers and subs chosen for a particular job, etc.

As an individual who owns a business working in peoples homes I don’t know how people can do work like this and sleep at night. How can you walk away from that and feel good about the job you did? I know it can be boiled down to greed, ignorance, a lack of caring, or straight up theft, but damn it still hits me the same every time I see something like this. As someone who takes pride in their work, enjoys audio and has a dedicated HT space, I just couldn’t imagine doing a room like that. It would haunt me forever.

This is insanely bad. Not following dolby standards of basic speaker positioning... not even putting the jumpers on. Randomly placed atmos speakers... This is just really really bad. I like what you did in terms of trying to improve his setup but honestly, he should just pay someone to properly fix this as as we've done hear is improve the sound but not get it close to the sum of its costs. You know you're in trouble when you make your atmos speaker a surround sound channel lol.

I think it got to the point were I thought someone was trolling here, I am a bit of an enthusiast but even when I started getting into home cinema setups I knew how to place a surround sound and same basic aspect ratio when setting up projectors. If I went to that house I would be like "is this guy testing me" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤦♂️

Dave G Hi thanks for commenting but I am not sure about your statement. Are you being complementary or facetious? As mentioned we were not able or allowed to move speakers only re-assign them which we did. The projector we cannot change. He needs to now take that fight, with our report that we gave him back to the supplier for them to rectify. If that becomes a dead end street. Then he likely might engage us to really fix the room up including change out projector and relocate all speakers etc. Hope this info helps and thanks for taking an interest.

Always find it funny when people do the big theater look spend all that money and then install bad equipment or cheap out on the things that count. 100K and he's got nothing to show for really aside from wood work. Keep things simple and spend all that cash on gear not the looks. I've got 25K in a 14x14x8 room black walls nothing to look at but it's all where it counts the sound and visuals. What a waste of possibly great cinema.

The vast majority would have gone into the construction of the room and interior design. The room itself looks great, it and the owner really deserved competent A\V installers, that's what they are paid to do. He shouldn't have to do much research if he can afford to pay installers.

Directional for the hdmi repeater chip I’m guessing, for long runs you need that for reclcoking, Cable equalization,. etc, etc. along with depending on the gear could even fry your hdmi i/o from that kind of Cable length. Not snakeoil, but the prices are!

I agreed with your comment about zooming but for most people it’s the only way to see a 2.40:1 or similar image full screen. Re Atmos I would have to strongly disagree. We do 2, 4 and 6 channel atmos with incredible results delivering phenomenal presences and ambience. If atmos sucks it’s been setup or installed incorrect or not calibrated.

Not quite understanding $100,000 price. So can you tell me what they did for $100,000? They hung a projector, hung a projector screen, and wired some speakers into the wall? Why did that cost $100,000? Are you including the price of the equipment too? But even if you include the equipment how in the hell did it come to that price? Now I can understand if the room Decore was part of it? But you said the homeowner did that?

It's really not that hard to understand if you had listened properly. It's said near the start of the video specifically that the owner spent over $100,000 on the home cinema room. ie that's the total cost. The big grand columns with intricate detailing and gold paint. The victorian wall lights, the ceiling panelling etc. It would of cost a lot to completely change the room to what it is now. From materials and the price the construction company charged to build it all. Then the 4k projector, the speakers, the cinema seats, the victorian wallpaper. It all adds up..... The construction of the room alone without any of the equipment or furniture probably cost around $20-30,000.

He just wanted to spend more on aesthetics vs. Video and audio gear. The projector costs $5K, or only 5% of his budget. Ridiculous. For the cost of those columns, he could have had a Sony 995ES.

That’s not a correct statement. As mentioned the interior design was done after and built around the AV gear. He spent about $100k on the AV, the room interior was over and above that. All the AV gear was spec’d by the supplier and he relied on them. $100k was what they charged him NOT his budget. It was never a case of “columns or good projector”. He did what the ‘experts’ told him. That is the whole point. Your comment is erroneous and out of line. The whole point was that he was prepared to spend whatever he needed and this shop specified these things. He is the layman not the expert. The columns etc were an additional over cost. The two are not connected.

I don’t fully agree. We shouldn’t have to fully educate yourself when employing an electrician or an engineer you are trusting in professional expertise. Otherwise we would study and then become experts in everything and do our own work and not need professionals. If this is not your hobby you should be able to trust in a professional. I don’t think this is an excuse. If you want to buy a Porsche you trust Porsche to build it right..

@@trackstarwillie2129 the room is ugly to you. Obviously not to him. Calling someone or some thing someone else created ugly is insulting. You don’t like it we get that. But being insulting publicly on a global platform is not what we are about.
