"Buy Your Case Knife Here (If you haven't already inherited one)" is one of the most accurate southern things I've ever seen. I, in fact, inherited one. 😂

Nice video! Thank you for sharing. Takes me back to my childhood of living in Dorchester, which was maybe a mile from Norton.

@@brianpolson539 At least he gets Appalachia correct. I get so sick of hearing "appa-lay-shin". Nobody here calls it that, unless they moved here. Even then, ppl tend to convert. Lol.

It is so surreal watching this place I've lived all of my life on KZfaq. Kinda gives me a new appreciation for it. Kinda like the movie Big Stone Gap. I know a few of the extras they used in that movie. In the scene where theyre in the teuck talking to someone, the black guy in the middle with glasses is Brandon B. I won't put his last name out of respect for his privacy, but he's a good guy. I don't think he had a single line, but he did get a fairly decent amount of screen time.

My mother was born in Wise, but I know nothing of her family. I wish she had written her history before she passed. All I do know is that her father died at a very young age and was placed with her grandmother who passed when she was 6 years old.

The views were better before some assholes burned down the original watch tower. It was about 3 times the size of the tower they rebuilt. The 2 men were from Coeburn. 1 was sentenced to 3 years in prison & the other 5 years in prison (he didn't cooperate), & both were ordered to pay a fine of $523,851. It was a historical monument. Also, if you're ever in the area around the 4th of July, Flag Rock is the absolute best place for the fireworks. They set them off from the football field down below, so they pretty much go off right in front of your face. You could sit down & stare straight ahead & see every single firework. It's well known, tho... So get there early. And yes, I'll probably keep commenting as I watch. It's weird seeing your small town that you figure nobody really knows about being covered on KZfaq.

Home "Sweet" Home. Don't get me wrong. The mountains are beautiful & the history is pretty rich for America, but ehen youve lived in this one small town your entire life? Yeah, that grass on the other side starts to look greener & greener as time goes on. I find it impressive that this little coal mining town is still running fairly strong considering the mining is more or less gone from the region. Most ppl I know from here can trace their family lineage to... Well... Right here. Lol. I, for example, am a Melungeon. They were black, so they hid out in the Appalachian Mountains, or if their skin was light enough, they would hide out in Native American tribes. If you ever see a Native American with a beard in an old photo, that's not Native American. Lol. Melungeons were free born for around 300 years before being brought to America as indentured servants & then freed upon completion of their work. However, since they were black, it didn't matter where they came from. So they hid in these mountains. I've got most of the prominent features of a Melungeon, such as the eye folds at the tear ducts, the ridge bump (I guess is the best way to describe it) near the base of the back of the skull, & "shovel", or "scoop" teeth. The front teeth are kinda concave on the back, like little scoops. Unfortunately, it does come with its downsides. Familial Mediterranean Fever is pretty common among Melungeons & can mimic (iirc) over 20 different diseases. My mom went 10-15 years thinking she had Lyme Disease & was on disability bc of it. Once she was properly diagnosed & given a single pill (Obviously she had to keep taking them. I'm just saying it wasn't some cocktail of drugs), she called & gave her Disability up & went back to work. Sadly, she became disabled again, & we lost her a little over 3 years ago. Anyway... Just wanted to post this for anyone that might be curious about the ppl of the area. Most ppl around here are Melungeon & don't even know what that is. Melungeons have also kinda Michael Jackson's. I'm sure there are still black Melungeons out there, but most that I know are white. Especially my pasty white ass. 😂
