In this G36 Bonanza contract flight, we travel from Hilton Head Island, SC, to Quincy, FL. Learn about hot starting a Bonanza, how Beechcraft ownership is cheaper than you think, and how frustrating local airport bureaucracies can be for pilots.

Hope you enjoyed HXD. We got a cool airport here. Winds can get crazy being on the coast and with all the trees we have. When we get a west or east wind, the wind just comes across the tops of the trees and turns HXD airport into a washing machine of winds 500ft and below. Also, fantastic radio voice. You sound like a sports broadcaster

@@chuckmartin5773 An Apple Pen makes it real easy to use. Of course, that's another doodad to keep charged and track of, so it's comes down to personal choice. I use the Logitech Crayon as it's cheaper than Apple pens and is flat like a carpenter's pencil so it won't roll off. Foreflight has so much stuff that I don't know yet either. And they're adding more and more. Love the new local weather feature!

Yeah, yeah! I’m very particular about what I clean my plexiglass with. There’s no can of Plexus nor microfiber cloths in the G36, so I don’t touch it. I should really order some supplies for the cause!

Troy; I feel your pain. I fly out of 06C, it has never had an instrument approach. The airport is west of ORD. I suspect it is too close to ORD to ever get an instrument approach.

2 years ago you could get those prices but not anymore, double if not higher on all of that! I own a 75 Beech Sierra I paid 63k for in 2020 and now they sell for well over 100k. People have lost their minds on prices. I hope we see the planes/homes/car market cool off over the next year or two.

Flying a bonanza is my lifes dream. Got my license in 1987. I have 200 hours in an archer. About 10 hours in a PA 28 235 and about five hours in a Sierra Beach re-track. Haven’t flown since 1992. If I get back into it I’m going all the way. Bonanza or bust.😀

5C° (41°) LOP is excessive and will likely destroy your cylinders in short time .. literature shows max 20° LOP (~13.4 gallons) and 80-100° ROP (17.6 gallons).
@troy_kinsey
@troy_kinsey 3 жыл бұрын
Respectfully disagree! What destroys cylinders is heat, so what matters most are the CHTs. With the correct baffling, the Continental 520/550 runs nice and cool, even at peak. ABS says you can run at peak as long as CHTs are reasonably cool. The jugs that are farther from peak (you reference 41) will be running cooler than those within 20, so they’re not a factor. 20 C isn’t a limiting figure when running LOP, but I personally believe the 20 C *ROP* the POH recommends is too low for comfort. I run 24 C or so ROP, which equates to 75 F - out of the red fin & generating power. As for fuel flow when LOP, that depends on your altitude and power settings. I’ve gotten it down to under 10 GPH above 10k feet @ WOT + 2400 RPM.

It depends how you do it! I’m fortunate to be able to do my own preventive maintenance and owner assisted annuals. I’m also based at a country airport, where the mechanics charge reasonable labor rates. After five years of ownership, I find it’s really quite affordable.
