I agree that dad’s past is not an excuse for what he did, that was terrible, but it seems he has suffered the consequences, understood what he did and is trying to redeem himself. Doesn’t mean that OP has to forgive or even talk to him, but labeling his as bad is counterproductive and is an oversimplification of the situation.

So Ex ran away bc OP started talking about being an adult and decided to listen to his loser friend? He also doesn't have a job and was "forced" (pretty sure OP encouraged him) to finish his degree instead of sitting on his ass and playing games. OP dodged a bullet bc he sounded like he didn't hit puberty.

So his failure to launch was never OP'S fault or problem and him running away then coming back like nothing happened tells me he sees OP as a chump.
@NotSoCrazyNinja
@NotSoCrazyNinja Ай бұрын
Well, depression can cause a lot of the symptoms he may have shown, but he also showed he wasn't overly invested in her emotionally or he wouldn't have ran away. He would have at least fessed up to his troubles and feelings and seen what she had to say. Overall, she shouldn't take him back, but he also should seek help via a therapist and maybe medication. I know all this because I've had almost lifelong uncontrolled depression and I know the panic and desire to "run away", but I also know it's not a good show of character to just up and run away when you have responsibilities and ties.

As to why you feel something about your mother's death. Our society and civilization is geared toward respecting and honoring our parents no matter what. Unfortunately, "no matter what" is the problem. We have to put up with the idea that the parents are terrible and learn to accept and believe it's not our fault.

Last Story: The Ghosting Boyfriend I'm not buying his excuses. Why wouldn't he talk to OP, his PARTNER about those things? Barring mental illness, most people aren't that impulsive. He's still hiding something because there is no logic to his explanation, and even accepted at face value, doesn't explain why he didn't talk to OP during that time. Here's some crazy theories (don't put any stake in them, I am pulling these out of my ass to illustrate how it could look to others): • He spent a few weeks in jail and didn't want to own up to it. It's not uncommon for people to be held pending a trial, and then have charges dismissed. That explains why even his parents wouldn't talk about his whereabouts. Do a background check, they're like $25, and can be done online. It's money well spent regardless of the outcome. • Get an STD test. This is a shot in the dark, but actually happened to a buddy of mine. His girlfriend cheated, then found out she had herpes, so she disappeared for a few weeks hoping he would go out and "move on with some rebound chick", and he'd think THAT'S where he caught it, at which point she intended to come back and take him back anyway and hold it over his head. He was saved by her affair partner actually coming forward and explaining the situation after his own diagnosis. This is unlikely, but people do think this way. (My friend came back negative BTW, in cases anyone was wondering). • Closeted Bi-Sexual - He runs off to "Experiment" with his friend, the realizes he likes OP better as a partner or leans more toward a female preference. Wouldn't be the first time someone did something like that. • Long-Distance Affair - He meets some girl (or catfish) online, falls head over heels, rushes off to the other side of the country, and of course the online romance is significantly different in person. The woman he's been flirting with is 20 years older than she claimed, 300lbs heavier, or a man, lol. • Some undisclosed ex-baby-mamma tracked him down for child support for a kid OP knows nothing about. He really needed a job out of state and a different residential address to keep the hounds from OP's door and outing him. That's way more likely than running from loan sharks and gambling debts as someone implied, but effectively the same thing, lol. • He got scammed. He lost money in a scam and is embarrassed. He went to visit his miraculously cheap, $40,000 foreclosed beach house in Oxnard only to realize it didn't exist and he just traded his college fund to a member of the Nigerian Royal Family, who also works for Microsoft Tech Support and is an enforcer for the IRS, lol. These are all unlikely, but there are really infinite possibilities here that are more plausible than him just running away in a panic. This is a young guy who went from living with his parents to college to living with his long-time girlfriend. He's never really been on his own. He allegedly moved to a new place, started a great new job despite not having any substantial work history. When people panic, they don't generally run toward the unknown, the panic keeps them where they are, it's why so many abuse victims have trouble getting away, preferring the company of the proverbial "Devil they know" to the daunting prospect of facing the unknown. His behavior doesn't match his words. And if this is what his panic response looks like, the dude's got some serious issues.

I would buy a few of these, or even undiagnosed mental illness. It’s also very possible OP only knew the ideal version of him that saved her over half a decade ago and doesn’t actually know who he’s been for awhile

S3: if they leave like that, there's a reason. It may be a STUPID reason or even a crazy one, but the best thing to do is NOT to go looking for him. It really sucks and I'd want to know too, but chasing it won't do any good. OP needs to not take him back if/when he returns.

My friend had a similar story to the last girl except she didn’t live with her bf. He broke up and got back together with her 2-3 times after many years together & the last time they made up, she didn’t tell anyone they were together again. They’ve been married for a few years now and he’s an amazing husband. I think he was just going through tough times and kept ending his relationship as a self-destructive habit. Now he’s more stable & has dealt with his issues. She definitely took a leap of faith with him but hey, sometimes people do need another chance.
@SealandPK
@SealandPK Ай бұрын
She is very patient. IMO sometimes someone will change with a second chance but that doesn’t mean they deserve it. If one can change it is their responsibility to find someone else to treat better not to go back to the person they hurt. I want to clarify i am happy for your friend that it all worked out well, but that doesn’t mean I would ever encourage someone to make that choice. It’s far more likely that the person will get comfortable and refuse to change again than to actually change when taken back
