Thanks for the review. This type of bike used to be categorized as a UJM, which stood for universal Japanese motorcycle. Almost extinct now, Honda was brave enough to bring one back to the market.

Spot on with the "old man magnet" analogy. I can't tell you how many old dudes come up and talk to me about my bike and the good ol days with their cb750 stories. It is funny but I don't mind it so much. I love my motorcycle and love talking about it.

Thanks for the review. I am also a SoCal (San Diego) CB1100DX rider. Only thing I might add is that I think the CB1100DX is a great touring bike. I am 6ft 215lb (all muscle of course). Last Sept 2016 did 5000+ mile ride to Michigan and back with bike loaded with front fork roll bag, tank bag, integrated tail/saddlebags, and 70Liter dry bag on my luggage rack. Smoothest ride I have ever been on. Avg speed was around 75mpg, but was able to cruise at 110mph thru the Texas Panhandle. Love this bike :)

Great video, thanks. I'm an older guy now and it's been a few decades since I last rode a bike (Honda). But I still dream about it, lol. So while I'm still healthy and strong enough, I've decided to buy another bike and the CB1100 is the one that's just screaming my name. I've sat on one in the show room and I'm confident I can handle it. But I don't think I should get on anything bigger until I refresh my skills and confidence. (I have other touring type bikes in mind but they're too heavy for my confidence level right now.) I live in a place where the highways are in great shape and the scenery is just off the charts. Mountain highways of BC and Alberta. Although I love driving (or riding) slow and taking in the scenery, I still don't feel comfortable unless I have ample power to get away from situations I don't like. My old Honda was the 305 Superhawk and it just didn't have that kind of power. I think this bike can deliver the performance I want for mountain highways. I'm glad to hear that the aftermarket is good because I don't think we can get those items as easily in Canada as you can in the US. Not sure about that, I need to check into it more. But there are some items I'd like to put on that bike for touring and to be honest I don't know where to get them. The dealers would know, but I imagine they would only guide me to items "that they know about". Thanks again, this vid was really put together nicely.

I thoroughly enjoy my 5 gallon tank on my 2006 Honda 919. I get right around 48 - 49 mpg on the highway and right around 40 mpg with city driving. Your bike looks good. I love what Honda did with the styling on this CB 1100.

I just finished a 3,000+ mile trip from Dallas area to Ruidiso, NM, up to Durango, CO and back and really enjoyed the trip on this bike. I could have cruised all day at 70-75mph with just my small PUIG shield. This bike truly is one of the best do-it-all bikes out today, in my humble opinion. I’m perplexed why this bike did not sell well in the US market. My wish list probably mirrors many of those already mentioned in the comment section of this video and the cb1100 forums. I would like a larger tank, ABS, 50lbs lighter, a 26,000 mile valve adjustment interval, and finally shaft drive. The last one is controversial because many don’t mind chain maintenance and coupled with the desire to shed 50lbs might borderline on a bike that is probably impossible to produce. Despite my wish list, I love this bike and it really is one that will never leave my garage.

Thanks for a nice, simple, friendly review and not forcing every one to listen for 15 minutes to the worst and most obscure band track that could be found! Last year I sat on one in the showroom and fell in love - and kept coming back every two weeks just to enjoy the feel of the machine and how perfectly every thing seemed positioned. But I went with another in-line four, the Suzuki Bandit 1250 as it had fairing and a 5 gal tank (200+ mile range). The Honda air-cooled in-line four is the best bike music ever! Good job with the various scene segments - adds a lot of visual interest. You should also add a segment of just how the engine & exhaust sounds as the music of the bike is important. Also add photos of how you load up your bike for touring. I that brown seat a stock seat? I have a friend at work who is a little shorter than average. How do you think the bike would work for women, or people with shorter than average inseam? (... looking for options for those people other than being stuck on small displacement bikes or defaulting to the V-twin Cruiser style)

I have a 2014 with 34,000 on it and it runs like the day I bought it. The wheelbase is 1 inch longer than my 78 KZ 650 c2. No oil burning, no issues and 51 mpg combined. Changed tires a few times, stock tires suck...put Bridgestone BT-45's and a big difference.1 valve adjustment ( cams come out for that), 2 sets of brakes (Easy to do) and easy to clean. Its long legged...120 at redline in 3rd, rev limited in 6th gear to around 110 mph. 2500 rpms at 55. Dont get a 2013 or less, they have a 5 speed tranny. No complaints whatsoever, love the bike!

Great review, probably the best I've heard on this bike. As far as the gas mileage though I'm getting considerably better mileage on mine, a 2014 standard. Usually get upper 40 to low 50's and 56 mpg on my last 30 mile ride, mostly hwy at 80+ mph, although I usually shift before 3000 rpm, burn non reformulated gas and am one of those "old guys". Excellent video. :-) CB1100 is one of my favorite bikes, honestly. No it won't light the world on fire, but man is it ever cool. I hope we get the 1100RS in the US market, that thing looks sweet! I put the Oxford grips on my bike, I went with the Adventure length which is pretty dead-on for the stock grip length for my bike. Toasty!

I just got this model. It is 7 years old and had 2272 on the clock. I love the entire setup of this model.I let my older brother hop on it for a day. He had not ridden in 30 years. Zero problems for him. My only planned mods are a rear rack and a trunk.

I too have a '14 Standard cb1100, in black, the best color. Really enjoyed your review, and can vouch for most of your points. Wanna add a few things: - Suspension is really basic for $11,000 motorcycle, especially front shocks. They bottom out on sharp edges very quickly, think potholes, bumps, and road wrinkles. Very dangerous in the corner at speed. For comfort, you can upgrade to 2017 forks, that cost $800. For more sport/race application, there are spring and cartridge inserts for about $400. - The front brakes are too good for factory tires. In fact, factory tires are terrible in the rain or cold, and I actually locked up front AND rear brake during a panic stop on wet road. It did not go well. Michelin Pilot Touring seem to be the best all weather tire for our bikes right now. - You can protect your dashboard with a basic windscreen. It took the most damage when my bike hit the pavement at 65 mph. And Motegi crash bars saved the engine casing, can't recommend them enough. Hopefully you can do another video update soon Cheers

I think this bike looks terrific . Able to go 90 + mph is good enough . Love that 4 culture exposed engine . Plus Honda and Triumph makes very reliable bikes . I guess the price is not too bad .

Superb bike, taking delivery of one next week hopefully. You should of just measured the size of the grip on your bike and selected the Oxford set that matched or were slightly longer. You can then cut them down for an exact fit.

Great review of the bike. Oh, I am one of those "old men". LOL I still have a 1980 Honda CB750F, now with 110,000 miles on it. My local dealer just had his yearly open house. He has a new 2014 like yours on the showroom floor for $7999. I thought, wow, what a killer deal. Then looking on Ebay I found there were a couple of dealers who had new 2014's for $6999. Wow, what a beautiful motorcycle for that kind of money. But, being how stingy I am with funds , I will just continue to ride my CB750 or one of the three other bikes that I still own. All are paid for and thus no payments is just sooooo desirable.

Nice bike, I don't like spokes because they are too hard to keep clean (or I don't know a easy way). If I'm traveling over 200 miles a day I like to have a fairing. I have six bikes 1988 through 2012 and I love and ride them all, it's so nice to be able to ride different bikes, it's makes you appreciate the character of each and every one.

I've had mine for just over a year now and I really like it. I like the styling, the ability to modify and the all around ridability of the bike. If I could have changed anything about the design I would have given it a bigger fuel tank, more horsepower and a lighter weight.

Tick in the box. But add a gallon/5 litre fuel can. Makes the range good and keeps the Harleys fed. A small screen will keep the weight of your chest as well. Hepco and Becker panniers might help. Alternatively their frame and a leather 30x15x30 for city work (splitting lanes etc).

Mate excellent review! in Australia wee can only get the 2010 to 2012 models, so no ABS on them here, and to make things worse they are discontinuing the CB1100 aircooled forever.

You may benefit from a Corbin seat. I'm 6'2" and have no cramped feeling issues. That may also come from almost 20 years on sport bikes

I luv this bike, ima Honda inline 4 fanman, a ujm guy, but what I have is '97 Cbr1100xx, it's older or newer brother, depends on how you look at it, which is a great sports-tourer.

Sad to hear about the accident you had at 40,000 miles. The type 1 is my favorite style compared to the type 2 but the type 2 does have several advantages.

It's a retro bike and as a 70's styled bike it does a bit of everything with modern reliability.

Great Review and excellent video/audio first of all! I am coming up on 1 Year as well on my 2014 Standard. I simply added it to the fleet because it was just plain FUN to ride. You make great points..it is good at a lot of things but not Great at anything. That said...I would still buy the buy again! I just cut a video on "how to change the oil" on this bike as well. Not many vids regarding the bike on KZfaq. 2ndly...How have you found chain maintenance going? at 3450 miles the other day...I cleaned it and found it STILL did not need any adjustment after almost a year.

the T120 comes with Heated grips as standard and ABS, so you are getting a whole lot more for your money which sold it for me

Someone jacked my trusty Thruxton recently, they are a hot item in the Northwest right now and giant theft magnets, so as a replacement I'm torn between one of the new 500 rebels for assaulting city traffic, and this. Got an old, well tuned and modded '76 CB 750, but the modernized advantages of this have me interested. I guess I am most interested in how the clutch feels. If it's that's nice and plush, then I wouldn't mind lugging around the 1100 even in dense stop and go traffic. Gonna have to go try them both out.

Hello! First and foremost, thank you you for putting out a comprehensive video regarding your experience with it as a owner. I'm thinking about trading in my 2016 Bonneville T120 Black for this Honda.

I'm going to update this guys report. Everything he pointed out is on the spot. I have the same bike and it now has 42,000+, other than 'wear and tear' items(brakes, fluids, tires) I have had no problems with the bike. I am getting better mpg than him though...avg. over 22,000 miles is 51 mpg. It runs like the day I bought it and after 3,000 mile oil changes, it shows no or unnoticably small oil consumption. Redline is 8.500 rpm and at 65 mph it's at 3,000 rpm. The bike will redline in third gear at around 115 mph. The rev limiter in sixth gear keeps you at a top speed of 110 mph. Also, this bike is considered a sport/ weekend touring bike. Not a sport bike. It is also a nimble bike in town as its wheel base is 1 inch longer than my old 78 KZ 650 C2. FYI!

Have you ridden the T120? I'm debating between this and the Triumph... the CB draws my heart though, I started out on a CB350 at 15. (now 21) EDIT: I originally wrote that comment before the end of the video. I see you have rode the T120, hardly a price difference with the new 2017 CB1100EX now though. It doesn't look like they're selling the new RS here in the states? That's outrageous, I'd buy one like tomorrow, it just looks fantastic!

Dart Marlin flyscreen on eBay for about $150 makes for a lot nicer cruising and slightly better mpg
