In this video I am changing the oil in my 1979 Honda CB750K barn find and giving a project update. I bought this bike as a non-runner and I am getting it ready for the road. My hope is that this bike will run great and I can't wait to get it running and out on the road! Will it run? Stay tuned - we'll find out together!

Hi Jon, can I recommend that you don't use steel wool with polish. Scourer pads work better, just as effective as steel wool. Steel wool fragments can more than prob show rust at a later date

The early Goldwings have the same oil filter arrangement. On those bikes the tab is on the engine and the filter housing has a notch. The K&N filters also come with the o-rings.

@@jonsmotorcyclerescueandrev3538 Have you thought about doing an old Goldwing? They're great bikes that usually are more complicated than people like, and you can get them for cheap.

@@bringbacknames Great question Jesse! You gave the reason I tend to avoid Goldwings in the question. Complexity - everything from the liquid cooling to the cylinder layout to the fuel tank to the carb layout and clutch location make them a bear to work on. My father had an "Oldwing" that treated him well after we cleaned the carbs but I prefer the air-cooled inline engines for their relative simplicity.

Valkyrie with 1500 6cyl 6carb are an interesting prospect though. Gotta finish my Kz1000Ltd 1981 first... Thanks for the inspiration and keep on trucking!

@@TheMarcball I rode one of those when they first came out. They are big and heavy! Maybe fast for a cruiser of the time but not my cup of tea.

Thanks a lot for the infotainment videos. Have a question on this honda. Have opened the engine cover behind ignition points and engine oil is dripping. Is this normal or i have a leaky seal?
@jonsmotorcyclerescueandrev3538

You're welcome. It seems like a leaky seal. There shouldn't be oil where your points are.

Wonder if I should go up on jets on my 1980 cb750c.

Great question Jeff! If the bike is cold blooded (takes a long time to warm up and run cleanly) or has hesitation at some point in the rev range, and all other possible causes have been eliminated, then you may want to look at jetting. There are 4 circuits in a carburetor: choke, idle, midrange and main jets. There is overlap between the circuits so a change to one can impact the others. Because of the complexity of these carbs you just want to make SURE the problem is jetting before going down that rabbit hole. I changed jets multiple times on this bike before realizing that the drivability issue I had was caused by a blocked idle passage (not the jet itself) in one of the carbs. Live and learn. 🙂

Hi Jon. I've been reading on forums that many people use Shell Rotella T4 15W-40 Diesel Engine Oil in their bikes. What are your thoughts on this? Thanks.
@jonsmotorcyclerescueandrev3538
@jonsmotorcyclerescueandrev3538 2 жыл бұрын
I have read this recently. I will personally only use motorcycle specific oil with the proper rating in my bikes. Auto/diesel oil is not made for transmissions and wet clutches. The reason people use the Rotella is because it's cheap. Engine, clutch, or transmission damage isn't.
