I’ve owned several Hondas over the years . Great cars in my opinion. The problem I always ran into was valve guide seals . I’m not a tech and don’t have the patience for it , I always had to take Clint Eastwood’s advice of “A man’s got to know his limitations” ,, so I always paid the hefty fee to have 20 dollars worth of parts replaced . Everyone always told me it was simple?? If you ever do that job I’d love to see what I was paring 250 dollars for 15 years ago 😳

Thank you Eric. I've inherited my parents 2001 Honda Civic. Your demo came at the right time. I plan to keep the car, but will need to get to various preventive maintenance work on the vehicle. Replace timing belt and water pump... Etc...etc. Thanks again. I expect these Honda's to easily get 250k to 300k of miles of life, with the right care.

Great video Eric. I've done many Honda valve cover gaskets but not on this generation Civic. Plenty of the older 1.6 Civics with spark plug wires Accords and Acuras with the 2.2 and 2.4l's

My '01 Civic threw a P0300 code for multiple misfire in a Walmart parking lot. I was out of town and my brother in law helped me with a uhaul tow dolly rental to drive it 45 minutes away to the Honda dealership. If I recall, I was nearly $400 all in with the gasket and coils. I now feel really dumb that I could've easily tackled this myself. My first thought was to check the ignition coils and I might've been able to figure out it was the gasket after seeing oil on them. Honesty just didn't want the hassle at the time as I was renovating a home, but in hindsight I would've went for it! Was kind of a fun and different adventure getting the car on and off that uhaul dolly though lol. Thanks for the video.

I have to figure out where the oil leak is on my 01 Honda Civic. Today I noticed the oil light was flickering a little. The engine didn't overheat but it was a bit hotter than usual. I added some oil and it stopped flickering but that's the 2cd time in a few months I needed to add oil to the engine. So far I had the clutch and the transmission replaced along with other things. Soon I'll replace the motor mounts and repair the driver's side power window. The window seems to roll up crooked to the point I have to guide it straight as I roll it up; It does open and shut though. Also my Air conditioning also seems to be leaking freon and the hood latch and the gas gauge needs repair. Not to mention it's my first stick shift car I had to learn to drive. I'm hoping in the long run the investment will be better than having to pay monthly payments for a newer car. Do you have recommendations of where the possible oil leaks might be?

Do I have to use a torque wrench to tighten the 5 bolts on the valve cover on a Honda Civic 2001? Is there a better way. I tried with a dual bar torque wrench trying to reach 7 lbs. It still leaks and I am afraid to torque them any more. Help?

Is that how soft the valve cover is supposed to be bolted down? I’ve replaced mine so many times but it always leaks. Don’t know if I’m over tightening it or it’s not tight enough

Question: I changed my valve cover gasket and i have a small gap between the valve cover and the cylinder head will vacuum seal it or should i push it in a bit more

Should i use silicon between the seals?

Should I use a torque wrench I don’t wanna buy it if I don’t have to

What would happen if u didn’t fix this?
