I just got a really clean 2002 civic as my first vehicle and its been burning coolant for about a two months now with no visible leak. me and my friend who is a mechanic have a few ideas on what it could be but "he's been a mechanic for 5 years and I wont lie I don't know jack shit about vehicles but I like learning and i mean I just got my first vehicle 5 months ago lmao" anyway I have like 2 hours until school so I figured I might as well watch some videos to get some ideas, thanks for the video ! simple and easy to understand.

Did you ever figure it out? I got a 2002 crv with the k24 engine and got it at 243k miles. I drive it like a project car, shakey but still takes it. Only thing is.. I burn through oil and coolant before I'm due for an oil change or right on that mile mark. No leaks. Shit weird... but also old and had things like engine mounts come off while delivering pizzas lol. It's crazy what these older honda's can take for a beating. Like old trucks. I'm at 254k miles. Got the AWD too... Just likes to drive hard I think (or say to feel like I'm not killing it). One I get a cherry picker going to take a look cus if the engine is still strong.. .maybe make a sleeper and boost it?

In my case, I'm literally consuming water with " no visible trace". I eather have a physical phenomena going on, or I can consume 1-1/2 gallons of water an hour, with no leaking on the ground or steam out the tail pipe. The water that is getting into the combustion chamber is being turned into energy in order to stay in complience with the conservation of mass.

Thanks for the video! My 2005 civic has been over heating especially more now in the summer. It's never smoked as I pull over quickly. I brought it to two mechanics. (First mechanic) The pressure test went well apparently and no signs of leaking. (Second mechanic) ran dye through and speculates a head gasket issue but is uncertain. When I add coolant, it's 95% into the radiator and not the resevoir. It's hard to want to pay for a head gasket without knowing for sure if that's the issue. If you stumble upon a situation like mine, maybe you could post another video 😊
@YourCarGuyDR
@YourCarGuyDR 5 жыл бұрын
Alicia Greeley head gasket should have shown up with a pressure drop during the pressure test. Many times the water pump will be your leak but because it is difficult to see can be overlooked. Fill your coolant and then let the car run. While it is running look for drips underneath. Make sure your a/c is off when you do this. If you see a leak to the inside of your passenger tire replace your water pump.

I haven’t had time or money to go get a pressure test done. Hopefully it’s not my head gasket. It’s not over heating.

Gamer Cat some steam will be normal with the cap off. You can get a combustion gas tester which is relatively inexpensive and see if you are getting combustion gas in the coolant. This is an inexpensive way to determine if you have a head gasket issue.

Hi, I just recently bought a used 2008 Honda Civic Si coupe and I noticed there was no coolant in the reservoir. After letting the engine cool down, I fill the reservoir till it hit max. A day later, I took it for a drive and the temperature seemed fine, it was in the middle as it always is, however when I checked the reservoir again and the coolant was all gone! No visible leaks whatsoever. I thought it might be the head gasket, so I turned on the car, warmed it up, and revved the engine. I had a friend check if there was any fluid or white smoke come out of the exhaust and there was none. I checked the radiator cap and it didn’t seem worn out...any theories as to what it could be?
@YourCarGuyDR
@YourCarGuyDR 5 жыл бұрын
Nick Algiers first check your oil level to make sure it isn’t over full. If the oil looks good the best thing to do is make sure the coolant is full and just let it idle while watching underneath for any drips at all. I would suspect a water pump. They tend to only leak when driving and you may never see any drips.

JMP News that doesn’t sound good. You want to refill the coolant (you can use water as a temporary coolant). Then look to see if you have a visible leak. Based on what you have said you may have a blown head gasket which would mean a significant amount of work to repair. Hopefully you just have an external leak. Make sure to check your oil level. If it is overfilled there is a chance that some of the coolant went into the oil. That is bad. Also check the underside of the oil cap. If you have a milky colored build up that is also a sign of coolant in the oil and would mean a major repair.

There are a couple of tests that can BWE done. One would be a compression test. Low compression on one or more cylinders could indicate a blown head gasket. Also there is a kit you can buy from most parts stores that is a combustion gas detection kit. It isn’t very expensive and is fairly simple to use. If you have combustion gas in your coolant then you likely have a blown head gasket or cracked head.

Hi, i have issues with my prestone with my Honda civic 2002. There's air build up in the engine and the prestone goes right into the reservoir, and spilled through the reservoir, and stay full. I have changed the radiator cap and thermostat. No white smoke coming off the muffler, no white desposits in the oil. When i remove the radiator cap after engine cooled up, there's a big bubble of prestone coming off the radiator. I noticed I only started to have issues after I did an oil change. I’m having an issue where it seems like fluid is spraying out of the radiator and building up around the battery, causing a lot of steam to billow up. Ginger You will know it’s the coolant if it has a metal cap, follow the hose beside the metal radiator and it will lead you to the coolant reservoir. Under any circumstances do not take metal cap off after the vehicle has been recently running. Please allow 2-3 hour cooling time for your engine before even touching the metal cap if you do not have a coolant reservoir. If you take that metal cap off while the vehicle is hot you are risking serve 3rd degree burns sprinkled all over your body. Please take what I say serious I do not joke around.

How to lose about a quart of water per 10 miles. Recovery tank does not overflow water and recovery tank cold and up to the top no over flow. A blown head gasket would make the radiator puke and it is not puking. Also I got no oil in my water and no water in my oil. No water or steam out exhaust. The engine is not overheating the engine gauge stays right where it is supposed to be until it runs out water. I can't find no pin holes in a radiator hoses or anything. It is possible that this is causing your overheating. The cooling system is significantly less effective when it is not pressurized. If the radiator cap is not holding pressure you will have overheating issues. However there are many other things that can cause overheating issues. But the radiator cap is inexpensive and must be checked.
