Nice review! After riding MTX 200,TT 600 ,DR350S ,KLR 250 and a Beta 200 Alp this is the bike of my dreams. Small thumper with enough climbing torque and decent suspension.Last year i have bought a CRF230F second hand with a updated suspension (Wilbers) and a overhauled engine and a XR250 fork. I have never ridden any mile on it but i want to ride some Hobby Competition in spring.I watch also the CRF230 Videos from torture test magazine .

My wife had never ridden a bike before. I put her on a CRF70F. Later I put her on a CRF150F. She handled it fine. She dumped the clutch a bit. Will a 230F be much difference? The 150 is too small for me.

That's awesome you got your wife started and are riding together! If you want something that rides and feels similar to the 150F but is a little bit bigger/more power, the 230F is your best choice. Yep, we have the XR200, CRF230F, and CRF250F. Each one is a small step up in power and weight.

Read your "The Best 4 Stroke Dirt Bike for Trail Riding" Wondering your thoughts. I'm 54 rode all 2 strokes back In the day. Haven't ridden since my 20's Just sleds (850cc) in winter ever since. Decided to get back into and worried about my skills at this advanced age lol and bought CRF 250F. Well in a couple weeks I was definitely wanted more power, suspension and waaaaay less weight. Was set to buy a KTM XCF 250 but started hearing people caution they're "race bikes" and started having that same feeling I did before the CRF 250F. Now I know the XCF-W (or E) is the way to but they're ridiculously hard to find. Wondering your thoughts on the straight XCF. Is the tranny ratio'd wide enough for trail riding? Am I gonna flip over the first time I tug on the throttle a little to hard and whiskey her? Or just an enjoyable trail bike period without having mod it out? Any thoughts would be appreciated. I'd say I'm "advanced intermediate"? I spose. Great article by the way.

Hey Rob, thanks for reading and watching my content! I appreciate your support. While the CRF250F is definitely heavier than most trail bikes, enduro bikes are actually almost as heavy. But yes, the stock suspension needs some help for aggressive riding. The difference between the XCF and XCF-W is noticeable, but it's not like it's a completely different bike. I would recommend test riding one to see if it's what you actually want. Modern 4 stroke enduro bikes aren't the greatest for lugging at really low speeds on technical trails, but if you're riding faster than a walking pace then you should be fine. What do you think, Rob?

@@MotocrossHideout Well the CRF 250F is 270 lbs and a XCF is 230. Pretty significant. Huge for me anyway. Agree test rides are the way to go but nearly impossible without either knowing someone that has one or convincing a dealer to let you take one down the street much less on trail. So I guess it just comes down to what you can actually find for sale and rolling the dice for a season or two. These bikes aren’t plentiful in western Maine. We have to travel for just about anything.

With all the fluids, the "wet weights" are a little bit closer, but the CRF250F has a lower center of gravity so it feels a little bit lighter, which is what I was getting at. Yes, they're hard to find anywhere, unfortunately. There used to be KTM demo ride days, but I'm not seeing any for off-road bikes this year. Have you considered another brand bike, Rob?

@@MotocrossHideout I mean Husqy FE would be my first choice but they’re even harder to find than XCF-W. Yamaha YZ 250FX and Honda CRF 250 RX are in the same category as XCF I’d say with a little more weight but still in that “racing trail” kinda thing no? Suzuki hadn’t made anything worth buying since the 80’s RM in my estimation (hope you don’t own one) I know Kawasaki makes the KLX which just isn’t my thing and KX which again is in the XCR, 250RX, and YZ 250FX category. GasGas, and Beta are race bikes and hard to find as well. Not sure what else there is to consider. Plus I’ve just heard positive reviews of reliability on KTM so I’ve just kinda settled there. Make sense?

@@MotocrossHideout I know the Husqy TE 150 and 300 are supposed great lightweight trail bikes but they’re 2 strokes. Superb linear power delivery etc. Just hesitant to get another 2 stroke as four 2 stroke sled are all we can handle maintenance wise. New top ends every couple years gets old.

Yes, but I think a big wheel 125 would fit you better, such as the CRF125FB or TTR125LE. motocrosshideout.com/best-dirt-bike-for-short-riders/

how would you think this would do just for riding in the mountains for hunting and occasionally packing meat in a backpack up some hills ? No jumps or anything like that, just point A to point B ?

I would think an ATV/UTV would be more practical, but if you need a bike for tight spaces/trails, the CRF230F is great - easy to ride and use the clutch, low maintenance, and a lower seat height than most full size bikes.

@@MotocrossHideoutI have an atv but the past couple years if I would have had a dirt bike I could have literally driven straight to my elk and maybe packed it out on quarter at a time. With my atv I could only get so close cause of the trees but would have a nice path with a bike. Had to pack the elk about 3/4 mile to the atv so wasn’t worst case scenario but could have been better

@@jbb4591 Gotcha. Yeah if you need a dirt bike then you can't get much better than the CRF230F unless you really want fuel injection.
