Honda dealership forgot to torque or forgot to put back all together the lower rear caliper bolt on my aunts 01 MDX. The caliper flung up and peeled open the wheel. It needed a new knuckle, rotor, caliper, brake lines, wheel and tire. Of course it happened 9 months after the repair bc she drives like a grandma and barely uses her brakes. The one time she did, it nearly killed her because the rear tire locked up. Understandably, 9 months is too long after a repair to be able to cover a repair because it could have been tampered with. But I assure anyone reading this, it was the dealership. The kids that did the work doesnt work there anymore for a reason

That just really sucks when crap like this happens to people. Especially the people who don't understand or realize that they are getting screwed. I see this kind of stuff a lot and by the time I end up with the job to make it right I feel very sorry for the customer. In most of these cases the customer is tapped out of funds from the other ripoff place and I know it's not fair to myself but I always try to do whatever it may be to fix the issue cheaper than if I got the job in the first place. When you take care of people letting them know you are doing what you can to save them money and get them back on the road you usually end up with another loyal customer

Our dealership repaired in on the owners own money, put a new box and framee on it even though it was repairable. And before the doubters say it never happened, i was the tech that replaced the frame and box. My coworker was the one rear ended.

This is why i advocate for cameras on all dealership service bays. Took my honda in for oil change, air abd engine filter change, brake fluid flush. They only did the oik change and didnt bother changing the cabin and engine filter (yes i can do this on my own but i wanted to create a maintenence history with a paper trail as im still under warranty). I work at a call center and i get monitored like crazy, so does Amazon delivery truck drivers so dealerships should also. If you do honest work the camera will not mean anything.

We do junk yard engine to though if we really have to But even junk yard engines have Warrenty especially if it’s from a dealer the customer at this point should have warranty on this “engine” FYI for people reading this you can’t control what a customer does with their vehicle, example if you get work done at one shop and you feel like it’s poor work, you still have to give that shop a chance to make it right…Going to another shop is 100% on the customer at this point but I understand

I had an issue with a Ford Dealership. I bought a used 1989 Ford Taurus LX with normal amount of miles. I bought an extended warranty. My check engine light kept coming on after service at the dealership. They wanted to cancel my warranty because I was using it too much. I had to write all kinds of letters, sending them certified mail, filed a claim with the BBB, etc. I had to SHOW OUT in the service department to get the manager to speak to me. He refused at first saying, he was too busy and what was I complaining about they were fiixing my car. ONLY FOR THE ENGINE LIGHT to come on again 3 blocks aways after picking it up from the service department. I haven't messed with FORD cars since!!! They never could find out what was wrong. I traded it in and bought a new Toyota Camry!!!

I have a 2016 Ram 1500 5.7L Hemi sport 2wd. Always use full synthetic done at jiffy lube. Have it done every 6k miles. Well taken care of truck with 188,000 miles on it. It all started with a coolant leak and took it to a local shop to see what was the cause of the leak. I was told that the thermostat is the cause of the leak. Forgot to mention days before never had any overheating issues so I was baffled to see a coolant stain on my driveway. So I had it changed out and after leaving the shop 30min overheated and smoke started to come from underneath the hood and engine turned off. Had it towed back to the same shop. They told me that my engine was seized up. So I took it to the dealership to get a second opinion and they were able to turn it on. They had to replace the starter to turn the engine on. But after turning it on the thermostat was still an issue and the dealership had to replace it and was told a check engine light came on for a cylinder 2 misfire. So that leads me to believe that it either was a bad thermostat that was installed from the shop before. I declined to get it worked on at the dealership and live 10min away from the dealership so I figured I'd have someone else work on it. Well 5min after leaving the engine stalls and now the engine blew a piston and I need a new engine. So now I find myself shopping for a long block engine and looking for someone to install it. But I'm dealing with shops wanting to do it all and having to spend around 10k to repair it SMH. I've heard several people suggest I have the MDS deleted on the remanufactured engine this will help in the long run. Those that aren't familiar with the term MDS basically means shutting 4 cylinders down instead of running 8 cylinders to give better gas mileage to keep up with better emissions and gas mileage mandated by the Govt. Ive been told that deleting the MDS it helps prevent the wear on the internals in the engine. But also found out that by doing this I could potentially void the warranty on the remanufactured engine 3yr/100k miles. I'm not sure what to believe now.

Happy late independence day! Honestly, this is all a right to reapir problem. If points driven, carbureted, inline 6 engines were the standard, repairs and the knowledge to do them would be ubiquitous with driving itself. No secrets, everything out in the open, the govt should have free emissions testing facillities to help with perfecting each individual cars stoichiometric ratio using emission for maximum power and fuel economy out of these air pumps. I was born in 98, but i understand the world we came from, and where we are at now. I believe that the problem is all of the computers and efi. Leaded gas went away long ago, and unsulfered gas went away 98 (where the reduced smog came from). I honestly believe that if we had standardized the old ford 300, and slant 6 chevy and dodge towers of power, and maybe the amc 4.2 (or christler 4.0 with a 4.2 intake?) there never would be this huge repair issue. Plus more parts more problems, if our main concern (as a society) was the environmental impact. Why shouldnt we consider all of the waste that goes into r&d and the production of all these different new parts. If we just kept it stupid simple crank windows, no a/c (not that there is any reason any ice shouldnt have ac installed), we could really fix the state of the repair/self travel industry. It needs a complete overhaul. Same as every other major system we currently count on, that are all going out on us due to simple entropy, combined with planned obsolescence. Its maddening how we as a species cant produce things that last the way we used to, while continuing to "improve" technology. Imo the only solution is to go back 150 years+ and start fresh by looking at all of the ideas that got us to where we are. We will have to figure it out eventually. Its just biblical. 😢😅😂

They replaced the entire engine with one that was crap, probably told he it was cheaper than replacing the short block on the damaged engine that was in the car. Now, the "new" (used long block) engine has a different problem with the bottom end. Thus, trying to get her to pay for something she could have done the first time (on the dealership's dime since they damaged the block to begin with). Typical dealership preying on someone who doesn't know much about what they are talking about. Hopefully, she sues.

Dealerships i worked at...would hand out freebies to specific customers, be it celebrities or people who knew the owner or director. But theyd nickel and dime everyday customers (and techs) because they "couldn't afford to help them out". Basically, I saw loyal paying customers get the runaround and whiney entitled customers get taken care of. So just because a shop has a manufacturers emblem on their sign and a multi million $$ inventory in sales, DOESN'T mean they are a reputable shop.

Diagnostic servicemen tells me it will cost $240 just to look at it. Because I didn't have the$, I drove with the light on for 6 months. Finally, I got enough $ to visit another shop. They told me to take back to Jeep and let them know I needed to have one last oil change (which I prepaid) and they will lose me as a customer. At Jeep, they wanted to know who was the other autoshop. When I told them, let's just say, I drove off with an oil change, me oil cap, and the engine light off.

The mechanics probably didn't even install the short block. They probably asked a couple of the detail guys if they would do it for a little extra cash. That's what happened to me. I bought a 95 S-10 from a Jeep dealership back in 2000. The head developed a crack before i even owned it a week. They agreed to fix it. I took it for a test drive before I accepted it back. It was gutless as F. I didn't accept it. I said, "Look, just fix it right. You drive it,the damn thing probably won't do 35mph. It's a 4 banger, but it had more power with the cracked head. Then they went and got the guy who replaced the head to see if he could figure it out real quick. I just so happened to know the guy.We graduated high school together about 5 years prior. But he's no mechanic. He's one of the details, guys. Then, finally, after all that. They had an actual mechanic look at itt. He found the firing order all mixed up. No biggie. Afterward, it was a pretty good little truck. I drove it for another 10 years. Sold it to my buddy's neighbor with 256k on it. He drove it for another....last time I saw it was around 2017ish. I would've kept it,but I didn't think it was gonna last another 7+ years. 😂 i loved that truck, I missed it, so I bought another one in 14. In fact, I still have it, except this one is a 6cyl manual transmission.

I haven't taken a new car to the dealership in 20 years for anything. And the used ones only with a legit extended warranty (Not that C.A.R.S. bs). Remember what Joe Pesci said about the drive thru? That's what dealers do in the service department 😞
