Here is an easy repair you can perform and save yourself a lot of money in the process. You might be surprised at how easy this really is. I think the hardest part will be sourcing the bulbs, but I’ve made that easy for you further down in the description.

Eric, you did not need to turn the key on to take the shifter out of park. There's a shifter override right there at the bottom of the shifter slot, that little panel hides a tab that you push to pop the shifter out of park, no need to even have the keys to do it. For those who are not aware, many cars now have an override of one type or another to allow the trans to be put in neutral. Mainly for towing with a dead battery, but it is also useful for when wheel alignments are done, since the car has to move a little on the alignment rack during the compensation procedure. Allows the trans to be taken out of park without having everything staying on and draining the battery. One thing i do like here is the easy access and replacement of the bulbs, much cheaper than having to replace the entire HVAC control panel. Many cars have leds in the panels that are not replaceable, which means that it can get expensive to replace the entire panel assembly.

Had to do this on my Element and initially tried bulbs from other sources that didn't work out. I was surprised at the little differences in similar size bulbs; seems like they would standardize this. I love all of your Honda Element video's and Save every video you do. Please keep the Honda Element in your lineup. I don't naturally get my hands to dirty but with encouragement from you I enjoy the challenge.

I wish I would have mentioned that in the video. Use of aftermarket bulbs or LED's doesn't often work out for repairs like this in my experience. As for more Element content, I'm actually giving this one to my brother soon. I'm not sure how much I'll see it after that. I have done a bunch of videos with it already though. Many are linked in the description. Thank you for your comment.

I had an 03 Acura RSX where the HVAC lights all went out...same bulbs used here. I decided I didn't want to spend $10 a bulb and instead soldered an LED w/ resistor to the contact pads for the bulb. Worked great and was an economical fix if you aren't squeamish about soldering

Normally I do not comment, but I will make an exception: years ago my dad bought a 2004 oddysey (used and quite abused), most of the lights of the buttons no longer worked (including those of the a/c); here in Mexico they are quite difficult to find and too expensive at the dealer. To make a long story short, I changed them to led (mini led), I put a resistor in series and it worked. It's been 5 years now and they still work. Greetings Eric from Ciudad Obregón.

I did this for the gauge cluster bulbs on my 2006 Element but went with a pack of LED ones. About $10 from Amazon - I think a dozen in the pack. Only issue was having to flip the orientation 180 degrees if they didn’t light up - LEDs require proper +\- orientation or they won’t work. They don’t dim well but my eyes need the bright dash anyways.

@@ScubaCat3 This is why I don't like aftermarket parts. Replaced the PCV on a friend's Audi, and while the part looked the same, it had some serious fitment issues. Just done mine on the CRV. Even easier to get out, just the little cubby hole above the panel and you're at it. I used LED's, but you have to check they're all on before you put the screws back. Honda charges a small fortune for these bulb/sockets. You can also get just the tiny bulbs on ebay, maybe Amazon. Take the old bulbs out of the socket by bending the fine wires that wrap around the socket base and then slip the new bulbs in. I've done this on my CR-V and Accord. Works great - just check for the right bulb size, brightness and color before ordering.

Need to do this on my Subaru's cluster. I don't know if it's difficult, but I'm not looking forward to it.

Thanks! Is it possible to replace the factory wiring to the stereo? Mine was cut before I got it and I would like to avoid splicing it back together if possible.

Came here just to see how to do this. I just bought a 2008 EX-P and the fan speed light is out. question: worth swapping all the bulbs out to LED style bulbs? and if so, which ones would you recomment? 2nd stupid question: are the CH / Vol / Mode / RES accel / Cancel / Set Decel buttons on the steering wheel supposed to be illuminated?

I’ve replaced similar bulbs on my old Ridgeline... they’re expensive for what they are. $7 - $8 each if I remember correctly.

Probably because they are specialty light bulbs. Would be way cheaper, if they were ordinary household light bulbs.

12 vdc LED replacements available? They should last "forever". Surprised to see incandescent bulbs.

I don't recommend the use of LED's, or aftermarket bulbs in this application. I've seen them cause issues, especially when it comes to the dimming feature.

I'm not sure how cheap those honda bulbs are, but when I tried to buy bulbs from Hyundai they wanted around $10 per bulb. I found you can actually buy _just the bulb_ for < 50c (I believe I got mine at bulbtown) and put it on the old socket pretty easily. I just bought them in bulk and did every single bulb in both my Hyundai and Subaru to get it over with.

Seems easy but sometimes the plastic won't align right after u do something like this. I need to figure out what i did to my dash lights, years ago i replaced them with some bulbs from ebay and jacked it all up. That D bulb on the shifter was a PITA on my Accord, also for the ones on the dash I just put the old "1" Bulb in the D4 slot and vice versa, since who uses D1 anyway?
