My minivan is set up similar to this. I have a coffin ⚰️ box bed 🛏️ that takes about 2/3 of the width. Back corner has a 22v plug 🔌 so input the cooler there. Dry food in front. And in front of my dry food storage....dog 🐕 food the bed lifts up like a coffin but also has a hinged 1/3 (directly behind driver seat) that lift tilts on a separate hinge; 1) Daily clothes access 2) props the 'bouch" (bed 🛏️ couch 🛋️) into a lounge chair that I can use to full appreciation while hatch is open and dual sliders are open.

I've seen so many element builds on youtube and this strikes be as the best balance between space, functionality, ease of daily use and simplicity - not to mention light weight, budget friendly and easy to make. I'm defiantly doing something like this with my build. Thanks! The east side is looking good btw.

This is awesome, I just recently bought a Honda Element and I’m in love with the space that is available in this car but I’ve always wanted to live in my vehicle and travel but I owned such a small car that I thought it would be nearly impossible but now I feel like it’s definitely possible! Nice setup! One thing I would recommend is getting some battery wires that can connect to the battery to the charge controller so that you don't have those clamps on while driving. Just a safety feature because one time I had something spark my exposed battery terminals and the metal instantly melted. Should be less than $20 at Autozone/Walmart.

Enjoyed the video so much, I watched it twice! I made the same mistake with my first van build by putting all the storage below the bed in storage benches... hard on the back and so inconvenient. My current build is in progress with the bed just inches off the floor, storage above the wheel wells/foot of the bed, and a kitchen at the rear. Thanks for the tour!
@wildsage
@wildsage 6 жыл бұрын
Diana Leigh yeah having functional space is for sure priority over just tons of storage. What kind of vehicle are you in?
@scandl01

I've got a 2005 Grand Caravan SXT which has the stow-n-go seating. The bed is designed to lift the front half to a vertical position, allowing the middle seats to be accessed when needed. Otherwise, the bed was built low enough to sit up comfortably, use the shelf above the wheel well as a countertop or desk, and still have six inches of storage below. So happy with the way this second build is turning out. I've been building it more slowly and trying out my ideas as I go... much easier to make revisions or change the plans.

Deanna Vesco I’m thinking about doing a whole video on my shelving and I’ll show it more in detail when I do. But for now I’ll just tell ya. There is tie down near the floor in the element that it is attached to. And the I rigged up something to wedge into the handle that’s up by the roof. Other than that it isn’t secured in any other way. I’ve had no issues with it shifting or anything though.

Great video all around.. Loved the drone footage.. Those mountains.. wow.. Amazing.. I also like the new layout better than your last. I was curious what kind of dimensions for your cabinet and bed? I've been wanting to do something similar but on the opposite side of my element. I'd probably start with the cabinet build first since I actually kind of like sleeping on the stock seats. Hope to see more of your adventures. Thanks for sharing.
@wildsage
@wildsage 6 жыл бұрын
debugtheplanet the depth of the shelf is all kinds of funky because it contours to the shape of the windows and wall behind it. It’s about 38in long though. I’d have to look up my plans for it to give you exact dimension. The bed I know is like 18in wide as a bench and 32in when in bed mode.

I love the set up! This is the type of bench to bed setup I'm looking to build for my Element I just bought after traveling/living out of a Sprinter the last few months. If you don't mind me asking where did you find the design? I'm really wanting to build it up!
@wildsage
@wildsage 5 жыл бұрын
kat meyo hey Kat. I just designed it myself. I had seen the basic slat bed somewhere around on KZfaq. I took the concept and made it work for my needs and the space requirements in the element.

This is amazing, congrats! I was searching for tent attachments for my 2005 Element and this is on it's own level. Is it easy to take off the back seats and put them back in?
@wildsage
@wildsage 5 жыл бұрын
Lucas Blair the back seats are very easy to remove. My system is also pretty easily taken out. You just need a screw driver.

No this is in lone pine california. Though I did spend this winter in it in Oregon and temps got pretty gold. Not as cold as Jackson though.

Cool setup, man! We've been using our Element with Thule & extracted seats for floor sleeping/weekend camping trips for a couple years. Seeing all the versatility you have, maybe it's time to upgrade our storage for ease of use. Thanks for putting the content out; it's got my brain working! P.S. What kind of work allows you to live on the road like this?
@wildsage
@wildsage 6 жыл бұрын
Dude you should. I love the flexibility of it. I can leave for a weekend trip on a whim. I’m always 100% prepared for an adventure. I wasn’t working at the time. Now I just take frequency short trips but wishing for the full time lifestyle again.

What’s the make and model of your solar panel?
@wildsage
@wildsage 4 жыл бұрын
Suaoki 100W 18V 12V Solar Panel... www.amazon.com/dp/B01DXYNGA0?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share It’s in off brand from amazon that I would not recommend. That panel has since broken. I ended up going with a rigid panel from Renogy that I like way more. Renogy also does flexible panels if you are set on a flexible one. But Renogy is a much more reputable company than whatever brand I got before.

Great setup! I'm all on board with modifying my element. What do you choose to store in roof box? Any chance of getting specific wood/size you chose for shelf and bed?
@wildsage
@wildsage Жыл бұрын
The rooftop box carried various things through the years. Mostly sports equipment and other dirty stuff like snow chains and laundry. The shelf was built with 1/2” ply.

@wildsage

If the bed was lower there is a part of the wall that’s sticks out. It would mean the bed is MUCH smaller.
