Thought I'd hear some good objective insight. All I heard was, the Harley is better for all of its faults. More expensive for a worse product. But pay an extra 4 grand, have a bike that isn't as good, and you get a shiny HD badge. You sold me on the Fury.

aesthetically the Honda Fury cant hold a candle to the Harley Rocker C. Honda is fine if you plan on keeping a stock bike, but then again, you kinda have to because there is nothing available in the aftermarket lol. I bought the Rocker C back in 2009 new, i still have it, i dont put many miles on it now as it has become a show and shine bike but when im riding it, she sure turns heads.

So to recap: The Fury is too perfect and outperforms the Harley in every worthwhile metric, yet he picks the Harley. Fantastic fucking marketing machine Harley has. Only an idiot would pick the bike that is 1: More expensive 2: Handles worse and 3: Has less reliability. Bravo Harley, bravo. Your manufactured cult fervor is amazing. If only you could build bikes as well as you build hype.

+Tony Vasconcelos That's all well and good, right up until the point you try to pass off your opinion as a review for a company that does motorcycle reviews and claims to be a journalistic source for news. The bar is raised for them. When all the boxes are ticked, and they then go on to state the inferior bike is the better choice, they lose all journalistic and review credibility. That is my issue, not with what Harley riders opinions are of their bikes. I understand personal preference, but preference plays no part in a comparison review meant to educate. That is pandering and reeks of dishonesty, plain and simple.
@tony2227
@tony2227 8 жыл бұрын
Erick but the one point that you are missing is that a review its not any different from an opinion because at the end the day the person that is making the review could in fact give you a bias review,,,listen what people get mad about is the comment that you made at the beginning of the threat ,,, only stupid people would buy a Harley !!... You have to understand you are insulting millions of people that take this shit at heart ... See personally I don't care what other people ride and I truly can careless what other people think about my choice of bike BUT sometimes I really don't get why some people get upset at us liking Harley and then ,,,they come and give us the break down on why the other bikes are better!!! We know the other bikes are better ... We know that... It's nothing new Harley is making superior bikes now but they still have bad reputation and no matter what they do people will find bad things case in point sportster 1200 forty eight that engine it's one of the best engine Harley have even superior to many Japanese bikes but people don't like them ,,, VRod extremely superior engine made by Porsche ,,, people don't like them,,, fat boy lo That bike would spank any bike in the market it the slim s,,, you don't see comparison between those bikes and the japaneeee why?????? Because there are people that knows that's very easy to make comparison with the old Harley than the new ones look for those bikes that I mentioned and will see that those bikes are superior bikes
@erichermann1962
@erichermann1962 8 жыл бұрын
+Tony Vasconcelos No, I get that (again). Let me be clear: my comment isn't an insult to millions of Harley riders. It's an insult to THIS REVIEWER. He is the idiot to which I am referring to. No one, and I mean NO ONE who is given hard numbers that prove X is better than Y should pick Y. That is not an objective review. If he wants to hold that opinion, he can. You can. EVERYONE can. But, for the purposes of a review one cannot have X objecively beat Y in every measurable way and then say "Y is the better bike". It is demonstrably false and reeks of being a paid endorsement (that integrity I was talking about). Despite what you say to the contrary you are taking this way too personally for someone who doesn't care. My cage is a Honda Civic Si, but if you put me in a Ferrari I am not going to blow smoke up your ass and tell you that the Si is OBJECTIVELY the better car despite all the evidence to the contrary - and if I did, you would rightly tell me I am an idiot for thinking so. That's precisely what my original comment is - calling this reviewer an idiot, or probably more accurately, a paid shill for Harley. PS: People hate on Harley's because, traditionally, it is you guys who bag on all the "Jap" riders. 90% of the time if I don't get a wave on the road, it's a Harley rider being a child about the fact I'm riding a metric. If I ride up to a bar someone will say "Nice bike man what is it?", and Ill say "Its a Honda VTX1300". 9 times out of 10 I'll get "You shoulda bought a Harley, I bet you couldn't afford one though" in return. It's CONSTANT. Most Harley riders are so full of themselves it's ridiculous. Moreso than any other rivalry - Chevy/Ford Domestic/Import Harley/Any other bike Harley riders take the prize for perpetuating this shit. Just like people lump sport bike riders into the squid category because of the dumb shit actual squids do, so to do you have to suffer from the Harley hate because a good part of your rider base are absolute jackholes. Same as me driving a Civic Si, I get the Honda hate - teens who think they are starring in the next Fast and the Furious driving like idiots means I have to deal with everyone bagging on my car. That's life. And yeah, the VROD is awesome, no doubt. But spank any bike in the market? You'll have to define the word "market" there because I can think of 5 bikes right of the top of my head that will destroy it. You could buy Japanese bikes in the 80's that would dust the V-rod. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_fastest_production_motorcycles_by_acceleration V-rod isnt even in the top 20 here man.

The only thing I don't like about the Fury is.......well............nothing. I just wish it came with the VTX1800 motor. They would sell more and it would be so bad ass that HD riders would be shitting their pants. Can you imagine a Fury with a 110 ci mill? That would be the baddest production custom ever! If I could get my hands on a Fury, I would put my 1800 motor in it and would probably never need another motorcycle. Ever!

I just bought a 2013 fury and lemme tell ya its an incredibly smooth, comfortable ride. When driving normally you barely have to crack the throttle to make speed, and when getting on the highway theres absolutely no problem blowing everyones doors off. I love this bike. Honda has made some good bikes over the years but this one is the most unique as it gets lots of looks and " Hey, nice bike " comments, and its just plane a confident ride. You feel like you're not going to have any issues riding it. When I ride a new bike or even a car for that matter I usually have a learning curve till I find out its quirks... Not with this one, and I haven't been on two wheels in 15 years. It was like I had never been off. Guys and girls if you're looking for a really nice, easy to ride, really good looking bike then look really hard at a Honda Fury.

@@katmacam4108 a dagger to the heart. At this writing Harley just got a new CEO to replace the other new CEO. Too try and stop the bleeding. All new models cancelled. Due to lack of interest.... Harleys overhead is massive. The need to step back and down size and perhaps entertain thoughts of becoming a niche market. Which would kill them. Or go global which they lack market share. Honda, and all the others make more than just bikes. That props em up. Honda known for reliability. What's Harley known for. Over priced, old tech, unreliable. Old biker cruisers. That is not a good global market platform. What's needed is to clean up reliability issue and cater to their over 40 clientele with world class cruiser platform. I doubt they can survive. Polara had to downsize. I would sell my h.d. stock.

I think it comes down to whether you're about the ownership experience or the ride. If it's about ownership experience then buy a Harley and then you can feel all warm and fuzzy about it. If it's about the ride then get whatever floats your boat and get out on the road and ride.

The newer Harleys (2004 and newer) are far more reliable than the previous generation. My sportster has given me no mechanical problems what so ever. It easy to change oil and tune up. My metric bikes ride great too, but not as easy to work on. To say one is better than the other is subjective. To each their own. Metric bikes are great, so are Harley's.

The fury is not a chopper, it's a cruiser with styling characteristics you find in a chopper. I have a Fury and I really like it, theres a few things I would change, but it's still a very nice bike. As far as all the people spouting off about how it's not a Harley and therefore not a real bike, well that's just being ignorant. I don't understand buying into a 'brand' and refusing to acknowledge any others... Can't we all just get along?!

It is just one of those things. The Honda is functional and pretty, but it is not in any way emotional or an object of passion. You have to own both brands to understand. Like Harley's popular slogan says: "Life begins when you get one"

At some point you just have to be honest with yourself; if you are looking at buying a Honda Fury or any other metric knock-off, you obviously really want a Harley. So save a little more money for a larger down payment and then go buy what you truly want, a Harley-Davidson and you'll be happy you did. (To all the Harley-Haters: just because you can't afford one or your wife won't let you get one, don't harsh what you can't have.) Safe riding to all.

all heritage, image, brand loyalty, and fanboy opinions aside... the only question I ask myself, when deciding between a Honda or a Harley is: If Harley made an Airplane, would I ride in it? the answer is no.

These same guys shat on the shadow as well, when they did a comparison between it and the Sportster. They list all the positives of the Hondas, all the negatives of the Harleys, then effin PRAISE the Harleys for being "better" bikes. As much as I like certain Harleys, Honda will ALWAYS be my first choice.

TOTALLY disagree with the "people glance at the Honda then look away" type statement. At our local shop, which will have 150 or more bikes at a time hanging out, most of them Harleys, a Fury draws everyone's attention. "Nuff said...

I had a fury since 2010. 3000 plus miles in spain last year alone. plus many more road trips. Never let me down, Never fails to draw a crowd including Harley owners. I wonder why MCN dropped clever (dick head) Trevor. Instead of a serious evaluation of the bikes, he tried to outguess the market. sad geeze.

I remember when hondas came on the scene,retailers could actually display a motorcycle on the floor without leaving an oil puddle,without honda there would be no decent bikes out there,most brands are pretty good these days.

The Fury is not the imitator, it's the innovator. It looks just as cool as the Harley, but handles better, and runs better because of it's superior overhead cam engine. In addition, the liquid cooling keeps you from worrying about cooking your engine in stop ' n' go traffic in 110 degree weather. What about the almost maintenance-free drive shaft? I previously owned a Harley Fat Boy, which was a wonderful bike.... but after the 'Harley mystic' wore off, it seemed over-priced and outdated.

"Does it give the same joy of ownership as a Harley?" That question is so objective that it is meaningless, at least to me. I think I could have good joy of ownership with either, maybe a bit more with the Fury as I would still ride in style and keep 4000 pounds in my pocket.

Nice to get an opinion from a non-American publication. Proof that Harleys aren't treated like trailer queens by normal people. Aside from that, The Honda is clearly the better bike, but it doesn't have the shield-n-bar designation. Proof that marketing is more important than substance.

And your point is? I worked behind a parts counter at an "officially licensed Harley dealer" for 5 years. I'm so sick and tired of all this bullshit about how great Harley is. I rode them for 25+ years. I got sick and damn tired of having to dump money into them to keep them running. You ride whatever you want to. I simply don't need a specfic name brand to enjoy riding.

my first bike was a cushman at the age of five,it had some hard parade miles on it from some wild shriners.i made some heavy mods to it (took off the front fender),filled it up with stove oil once because i had no gas.it ran okay and i was hidden well from my dad in a cloud of blue smoke.of course i tell everyone my first bike was a sportster,but the reality is a little different.

I agree with the heritage/looks/sound, as I mentioned earlier. The road I mentioned can't be ridden more than 40mph, so narrow that cruisers, metric or HD, probably have to corner at 3-4 time slower than a 250. I'm a cruiser person, but chicks here don't dig cruisers. Either sportbikes and chicks, or cruiser and ride solo, so again your argument is invalid. What I'm saying is, you're nothing, we're nothing. But as long as we ride, we're all bikers. Stop acting high and mighty.

I bought my Harley because I liked the fit and feel of it. I've owned Kawasaki, Yamaha, and Honda and they just don't have the feel of a Harley. But that is up to everyone's personal preference. I did like the foreign bikes that I owned, but my preference is Harley. Honestly, if I didn't get a Harley it would have been a Kawasaki not a Honda.

It's not just that the HD is more expensive to buy...you must also figure about $50 per week, year round, for repairs and maintenance over the Honda. All these Honda comparos are actually just ads for Honda. It's that much better.
@godfatherNYC

if you're looking for this type of bike, the HD is the CLEAR choice, if you can afford one. Honda would be a much better choice for a sport or sport-tourer. Modern Harleys are extreme reliable. I ride a newer one and so do several of my friends. They ride, feel, and perform great. NO major problems. You buy a Harley when it is the right choice for you!!! Other bikes make much more sense for certain applications, budgets, and tastes. For a sport bike, i'd love a BIG Ninja or BMW S1000rr!!!

I recall what Sonny Barger said about H-Ds versus Japanese bikes. Ralph Barger said that Jap bikes run better longer and stay together longer. I'm just repeating what a bike rider/mechanic of over a half-century said. I've owned both makes. Hell, they're just machines. Right?

As a matter of fact I just bought a Yamaha Stratoliner. $8,000.00 less than a comparable Harley. The Yamaha comes with everything the Harley charges extra for and has a larger displacement motor.

Sorry for the errors in my last post. I´ve been. Almost. Go fast. etc. At the end a real rider rides his bike every day, unless rains too much or snow. It doesn´t matter wich brand ride. It's just a matter of taste and practicality. I respect all real riders, with rider's codes, friendship codes, respect codes.
