1994 Honda GL1500 Aspencade. In this video I show the removal of the saddlebags and exhaust to access the final drive and axle. Removal and replacement of the rear wheel. I also flush the final drive with motor oil to get a fresh start.

My mufflers seemed to be seized onto that turtle-like part in front of them. I got the muffler clamps off with great difficulty, but I didn't have the courage to twist and shimmy the muffler off with force like you did. I didn't want to break that front part. I was able to bend them slightly down just enough to get the the axle out. Thanks very much for the video.

I hadn’t thought about a tow set up. I was a bit surprised how much of the bike I ended up taking apart just to get to the maintenance items.

Boy oh boy this was a fun job! 😒 I just did this to my 88 and it had a towing frame on it so I had to take that off before I could remove the wheel and back it out. What a mess haha but fun to learn.

Not a criticism but an observation, you really should have removed the entire final drive assembly and greased the final drive internal splines since you had the rear wheel off. If you end up doing that at a later date only use Honda Moly M77 paste. Cheers.

On the driven gear did you use The Moly 60 or the M77 MolybPaste or regular grease?

Goldwing docs has a much more professional process. Removing the under panel on the trunk makes everything easier. Just swivel the mufflers down. Rinsing the rear end is a good idea.

@@camelkins9688 Maybe he's referring to the "streamlined" process where the trunk and bags are left in one piece and pivoted up. I saw the Honda mechanic do that (back when the dealers still worked on GL1500's). Seemed pretty straightforward and easier than the piece by piece disassembly. Still, a snarky comment, if you ask me. Guy takes the time to share his wrenching exploits, we can at least offer alternative ideas in a nice way. After all, we all love our Wings. Haven't checked out Goldwing docs method, but will do so.
