I recently had to remove the bags to do mine since the previous owner had wires all over the place for the aftermarket side markers and rear lights. I've since cleaned them up with bullet connectors so I can do it this way in the future. Thanks for the well made and explained video on the process. Cheers.

Terrific video. I really like the method of raising the trunk and saddle bags up as opposed to removing them, which is the way I did this job. I do have some aftermarket lights and such that the old owner installed so I don't know if those would interfere with raising the trunk up. I think I should still be able to do it that way and I'm definitely going to try it next time. The one thing I want to say about the mufflers is that I couldn't remove them at all. They seemed welded in place to the part under the bike that the mufflers get inserted into. I didn't want to whack them with a sledge hammer or anything for fear of breaking them or that part that they slide into underneath the bike. I read on Goldwing Docs that it's a difficult part to find and difficult to replace if you break it. So I just bent the mufflers down enough to get my ratchet onto the axle nut and was barely able to slide the axle out to remove the tire. Thanks very much for the videos that you make. I have to get me one of those impact drills also.

I prefer to just put it on its center stand, loosen up both exhausts and swing them down and outward. Then I just remove the left side saddlebag and the license plate center piece and cross bracket. That gives me access to everything I need to remove the wheel.

I am about to change tires as well, i haven't removed the wheels yet, I didn't think I needed any kind of instructions at all, this just popped up in my feed because I have been trying to find tire reviews. my Bike looks nearly exactly the same as yours but it is a 99. candy spectra red. that flip up the bags / trunk thing was amazing. LOL had not seen that before. even more funny, I was Just given that same impact you have there and I love the thing. Ha! So I saw you are running shinkos. i was thinking of doing that as well. I have dunlops on mine, they came with the bike and i didn't even bother with inspecting them when I got it, in fact, I have put nearly 1500 miles on it without even looking. Guess what that brought me? crazy shivers down my spin is what. LOL These tires are E3 dunlops and the DOT on them is 2009 ! the front tire is so cracked up it's amazing to me it's inflated, I mean at one point it is straight across from rim lip to lip that it looks like someone did it on purpose with a razor. dun pols are what i would like to go back to for it e4's but also , I am a poor guy. LOL Big family and lots a bills. I have heard next to nothing good about the Shinkos and that makes me believe somethings up, a lot of lies trying to veer folks away. Shinkos are not Chinese but they are Korean. I see they have a radial that is 160/80/16 rear and that it is matched in a set with a Bias 130/70/ 18 front. I have been told not to mix radial and bias but that whole dark side car tire thing is a radial and and a bias so I am thinking that is probably BS as well. i mean, i don't want to darkside, I live in Idaho, I am going through MT ranges. If i had an extra rear wheel though I think I'd like to try it on a big highway trip, like to FLA Or S TX. but anyway. How do you like the shinkos? do you mount and balance your own stuff/ I see you have smaller bikes as well, that's the other reason i was writing as you seem more like minded than some folks on here LOL I have tons of little old Thumpers. The shops around here have a crazy high mark up. i just got a quote for e3's from the Harley Joint here for over 1200 bucks. doesn't include the cost of mount and balance! no joke. that aint happening. some places will do it for 60 if you buy them there but still a high dollar mark up i can't afford. the ones i am looking at are Shinko 733 130/70-18 front & 734 160/80-16 rear looks like the 777 is also a choice for the front. I have not ordered yet but I have to soon, I already paid for my insurance and i gotta go fishing! :0) any help would be super cool, you already helped immensely

The only issue I would have with removing the muffler is as these systems get older. Those muffler tabs are going to get rusted and become thin. You take it off. You may not be able to get another muffler for a reasonable price to replace it with. So if you do not want to take your mufflers off once you swung your trunk up unbolt the shocks, then you can lift up the. Rear tire so that the axle bolt is above the mufflers. Pull the bolt out. And take the tire off

This is all well and good in the comfort of your garage, but what if you get a flat at the side of the road? Do you need all those tools to to get to the wheel, or does the bike come ready equipped for such a task.

This is what hurt GM years ago, the engineers didn’t have to suffer from their laziness in designing the car. Really, the mufflers, seat, brakes, and half the bodywork have to come off just to change a tire? It’s also why there’s nobody rebuilding Goldwing engines, they’re way too difficult. They’re so difficult that when the alternator fails, it’s easier to disconnect it and jury rig another alternator onto the front of the engine.
