Honda HRX217 vs Toro TimeMaster Bagging and Mulching

Demonstration of the Honda HRX217 and Toro TimeMaster bagging and mulching in similar conditions. Honda tends to leave more debris along right edge of mower when mulching (Need to Over Lap). Toro tends to evenly spread out debris during mulching.

Have a 1/2 acre yard that is flat , which mower would you recommend ? I know the Honda is known for its durability but I`m not liking the 17" mow path , the Toro would cut my mow time down quite a bit but have read about some issues with it and it appears to be a much higher maintenance mower.

I cut my lawn which is about 1.5 acres. Takes me 1.5 - 2 hours depending on the length. Much faster and way better cut than when I used a lawn tractor for years plus cut down weed wacking by 95%. The time master so far is a great design. just wish it had that honda engine then it would be near perfect.

Go with a Honda if you want your mower to last 15 years and up

The only reason I didn't buy that Honda model was because the neighbor behind me had one and crazy as it sounds the deck split in half. I ended up with the 2020 black edition Toro Super Recycler with the Honda engine.

Btw you should never mulch pine cones or sticks with belt driven mowers like Toro because that crap can get wedged up inside the belt compartment and burn the drive motor as well break the belts. But this is your equipment so if you're cool with the repair costs then chomp those cones up. I rebuilt mowers and a lot of my repairs are from abuse of running over things you shouldn't.

I cracked one of those decks as well by dropping something on it or it fell off a trailer I don’t know.... but Honda has a lifetime warranty on those decks.... took it to Home Depot and they ordered a new deck right away.... they run like a raped ape if you don’t beat the shit out of them...

Okay you're a tall guy so why in the blazes would you use a curved shaft weed trimmer?? Those things kill my back, you should use a straight shaft. You probably do have one but I guess whatever floats your boat man.

The Honda has a way better engine the Toro is just bigger if Honda made a larger mower it would be untouchable!

I think Honda is a better mower all around but just my opinion. I haven't ever been a Briggs fan except for our old water pump has an old 8HP flathead, can sit for years n fire right up.

I have no both of these mowers. My Honda is the HRX217HYA about 9 years old. My Time Master is new. Use the Honda for the front yard because it is easier to throw around and I think it mulches better. Use Time Master for backyard because that is where all my square footage is. Just over half acre total.

I am in an odd situation. I have about a 1/4 acre but I need the 21" to get between odd areas. I have an old 21" Honda HRR mower and debating on using this to do edging and the time master to do the main areas. However, in the same breathe, I do not want to maintain 2 mowers. I am guessing the HRX is a better mower to push than my HRR....? What are your thoughts? It takes me a 45-50 minutes to mow.
