Honda J-Series Flywheel Side by Side: AASCO Billet & LUK OEM Dual Mass

Do you have an Acura TL Type-S or an Accord 6-6 or some other car that has a dual-mass flywheel and you are thinking of changing to a performance billet wheel?
Well here comes Heeltoe, with the ins and outs, ups and downs, and all the in-between on J-Series flywheels!
We let you know how they work, what the weight difference is, and all the other info you need to know to choose which one is for you.
There are three different fitments of J-series flywheel:
Honda J30-J32, which includes the 6th and 7th gen Accord, 2nd gen CL, and 3rd gen TL 3.2L.

Then there is the J35, which fits 3g TL Type-S and the 8th & 9th gen Accord 6-6.

Lastly there is the J37, which came exclusively in the 4th gen TL SH-AWD:

But, you should always check with Heletoe to make sure your parts will be compatible!

Thanks for the great info and content. Purchased and installed the AASCO Lightweight flywheel with the clutch you guys recommended. 2008 Honda Accord J35 6MT. I couldn’t be happier with the results. What a difference. This thing absolutely shreds! The pure joy it brings! So much fun to drive. The vehicle does think it is misfiring on occasion as you all have mentioned could happen and I will address that with K Tuner soon. Small price to pay. Feels like this car lost 1000lbs. If you’re doing a clutch job and you don’t get the light flywheel you are missing out. Thanks so much to all at Heeltoe. You guys are awesome!

Good video! I’m assuming the flywheel needs to be removed for the friction surface to be replaced? There’s not enough access to get to all the fasteners on the rear of the flywheel while it’s bolted to the crank?

That is correct, you have to remove the wheel to replace the surface.

I have a 2010 tl sh-awd . I like the feel of the stock set up. My concern is if I go with the clutch masters f100 kit and the single mass flywheel. Will it feel too aggressive and grabby instead of the nice smooth but sporty clutch feel I have now.

"Will it feel too aggressive and grabby instead of the nice smooth but sporty clutch feel I have now." The stock AWD TL clutch does not feel sporty, IMO. The light flywheel will make the engine feel more responsive (sensitive to inputs). The clutch is a mild one, and you may feel the pedal is a little firmer feeling but the disc is mild and it will not engage too abruptly. The FX100 and light flywheel will add sport to the feel but will not turn it into a overly sensitive performance clutch. If you feel the stock clutch is sporty feeling, then you might want to stick with it.

Ive been looking at upgrading my cls6 with a lightweight flywheel and a disk that can handle a little more abuse than stock. I was looking at CM FX250 kit but I noticed the pressure plate is self adjusting. Do you recommend a non SAC or a SAC to pair with the LWFW? I would have dampening on the disc of course. Thanks!

Hey, Marcus came to this video for reference; cause I recalled you made this 😅... I purchased the Aasco flywheel, I'm not sure if I understand correctly. But should use the ring with my ridge clutch disc and pressure plate; it is nonadjustable by the way.

Correct it's for torquing the bolts down. How would this thing space the disc at all?

I have a j series 04 accord coupe with a TL transmission and a clutchmasters lightweight flywheel. And my stock one came with a spacers front and rear and I used them with my new flywheel. The engine won't spin over now not even by hand. Should I take them off and reinstall ?

Hey Marcus, interested in the AASCO flywheel, which clutch-masters clutch would pair with is best? I have an 07 TL type S, preferably something to daily but also to drag race once in while. Which do you think?

Would an exedy clutch be compatible with a clutch masters aluminum flywheel? I know the oem flywheels are dual mass, would I have to get a single mass clutch for the aluminum flywheel or would “oem” clutches work fine?

Believe it or not an Exedy j series clutch is really a Luk in the box. Same thing.

The answer is yes, but then you will have a non-dampened setup...it works great, very direct. But also you need to feather and slip the clutch a little more to get off the line smooth. Refine your driving technique and it works great. Have a similar setup in my TSX.

It's recommended much like it is recommended to resurface or replace rotors when changing pads. But if you've been gentle to your clutch then you maybe can get away without it.
