Regular oil changes are not a must. I have been driving my Metro for over 5 years now and only get an oil change once per season. best vehicle that I have ever owned! Never has an issue. Starts right up and just drives.

Yes, regular oil changes are a must, especially with pre-2006 models. Those early bikes don't have a PCV system to burn off fuel vapors trapped in the engine case, so the fuel vapors dilute oil. If left too long, the thinned oil eventually causes the crankshaft bearings to wear and spin. Later bikes have the PCV system and can go longer on an oil change. An oil change once per season sounds pretty regular to me.
