So I took this bike to a limit that even Honda would not push towards, my findings are both positive and negative but my conclusion is absolute.

Nice job on the video! I have a cb500x and it too is a great commuter and easy going touring machine, Honda got it right with these bikes and understands riders like us that don't want a bike for going 0 to 60 mph in 3 seconds. It's all about the ride not the destination or how fast you can get there. I love riding slower pace, stopping often, relaxed riding, seeing sights and taking pics to document the epic travels. Peace and Happy New Year!

True that. In fact, I am between either the 500x and 750x and after test riding them both, I found that the 500x got be a bigger smile, its so easy to ride and flickable and precise (2022 upgrades) which made the 750x felt almost inadequate. I believe I still am going for the 750x just because of pillion touring.

Well, well, it is a small world. I owned this bike a few years ago. I don't mean an NC. I mean this very bike. I remember putting the shad luggage, seat, MRA spoiler, centre stand, heated grips, and Barkbusters on it. A great bike, nice to see she has seen the world, she used to just Potter around Lincolnshire!

Hi Jon, I am loyal to her, but the person I purchased it from didn't tell me the seals had leaked making the front brake non existent, moreover, my own sillyness resulted in me not noticing the pitting on the forks which ripped every seal I put in, I have since rechromed the stanchions and now she is as good as gold. Lots of add ons since, but thank you for the heated grips, they were so necessary when riding back through Europe in autumn 🍁.

I have a 2015 NC700X DCT and despite all the negative things that every rider I know has said about it I absolutely love this bike. I had done some research on it and was pointing toward the CTX700 DCT, but I walked into a dealership to find my black beauty just sitting there and I bought it without much hesitation. I felt like it was fate and I don't regret my decision despite my sport bike and Harley friends constantly bashing it.

I find it makes a great touring bike and the DCT makes riding in urban situations really easy. Rok straps make it easy to take stuff off the pilion seat to refuel. I find torque very adequate, especially in Sport mode. Fuel consumption is very good up to 80 kph, after that (panniers and top box) it increases quickly so that it's closer to 4.5 litres/100 km at 120 kph.

Good review and pretty accurate. I do frown on the use of the term of "commuter" when this bike is referenced as a lot of folk use as a term to put the bike down. But quite rightly you set that record straight 👍 The well known biker Chris Moss has one and he thinks it one of the best bikes he has ever owned, the review is on the Knox channel so praise indeed and well worth a viewing. About the forks...: I have a CBF600SA for 20 years now, from new. I changed the fork seals once only in the 10 years mark. They were not even leaking, I just changed them at the time because I wanted. Never leaked. I must say here that when I changed them initialy I used after market seals and they leaked in a few months... Then I put the genuine Honda and no leaks after 10 years. There was also a notch/bump on the tube surface which probably caused the leak, I made it smooth with fine sand paper. My point is that I don't think Honda sells bad seals for the NC750 and good seals for the CBF600, why..? Sometimes the part is the same even if the part number is different yes, that happens a lot, for example these two bikes use the same oil filter but the part number is different. So, either something went wrong during installation, or non genuine seals, or the tubes are not smooth even at a tiny point.
@Bykersam
@Bykersam 17 күн бұрын
Hi buddy, in total I have had 3 nc750x and the seal problem has occured in all 3, however I know it's not the seals as I only use dealer seals, I believe the issue is with the chroming of the stanchions, weak chroming causes them to pit and that causes erosion/ruptures in the rubber seals. I have factory re-chromed them with a 10 guarantee and so far no issues at all

Great review Ikram. Sounds like a great bike but I'm assuming that you would prefer your Africa Twin for off-road terrain?
@Bykersam
@Bykersam Жыл бұрын
To be honest dear brother no, the issue is that by the time I return to the UK I will have covered 47,000km or nearly 30,000miles. Off road is ok if you are doing it for a day or two and have all the means to fix issues that may arise, the distance I travel means I need a bike where maintenance is easy and the desire to do hardcore off road is low, as such terrain comes with the risk of major maintenance or worse still major damage and thus repair.

What a trip dude you're the man... I once crossed Europe on a motorcycle Dover to Aberdeen .... behind the iron curtain ... Paris to Poland , Czechoslovakia, Switzerland south of France and the Netherlands and all the way to Dubrovnik. Bike burned up there which is why I'm looking at this video. On my way to Athens Greece when the bike burned up. Never made it. I know the exact spot where it burned up. Now this gray haired old man is going to finish the trip the young self didn't and take a picture at that spot. Is this the bike to use? Mine was a 650 Yamaha. I like that size range, fuel economy yet can handle the Autobahn. So I am looking at buying this Honda in London and cutting out. So.. if you made it to Pakistan my trip back in time should be a piece of cake. No off roading needed.the gas tank thing may be a killer.. want a big tank... Watched a little bit further after writing this ... the problem with the front forks is concerning.... I don't want to end up broken down on the side of the road again..... the Triumph 850 sport adventure is my other choice... You say?

Your review, and knowledge of the bike, is great. Probably better than many who have not covered such a mileage in such conditions. Really enjoyed it. I think the NC is desperately under rated and, like the CB500X/650X of years ago is destined to be go down in history as a Swiss Army Knife of motorcycling - jack of all trades, nearly master of some but exceeding most aspects. Sharing and maybe picking up personal thoughts on one or two points... Had a 2018 new for some time, and I' will have another with no complaint. The suspension is sadly lacking but with improvement transforms the bike. I believe the seat complains are often not insufficient padding (although that benefits), but its the slapping of the backside over every bump and pothole that is felt. I was surprised that as you address the 'NC - New Concept' you then proceed to comment on the front compartment or 'frunk' rather than the engine. Surely Honda touted the engine and it's rather radical design for a motorcycle as the NC aspect. The frunk is just a by-product of that and allowed them to rethink tank position.. Popular with most owners and yourself, I am amongst a smaller buy not small group of owners who hate it and /would/ rather have a 'proper' tank. I think part of my frustration is the shape, it doesn't hold most larger helmets and that the whole frontal 'tank' area is plastic (as many bikes, but that's a shame). The frunk is like a Tuppaware box, for me. The frustration of it's backward instead of frontward opening, together with the rear seat filler is just a pain. In a list of relatively costly, negative deficiencies and omissions (like suspension, front and rear, poor seat and others) I'd debate the need for a cheap USB port in that list. Yes, manufacturers could indeed include them for the few pounds they actually cost. Then again, it need only cost that for most owners to add one. Are they necessary unless you are a distance from a mains plug and not crossing continents and 'outback'? Most people aren't far for more than a couple of hours. Using a phone on a bike is very questionable even for satnav. As a commuter or even travelling nationally, charge at home, work or hotel. Besides, the seat will limit most riders travelling far enough to drain the battery in one go. I don't quite tune in to your liking of the parking brake on the DCT. You make it sound like it's valuable device on any bike? Just leave the bike in gear. Whilst on the DCT you can't, even then I may have used mine a couple of times at most. I agree, like most who've ridden DCT enough to understand it, the DCT is amazing. Those who say otherwise have usually not tried it or simply closed in mind. That said, I never quite got over a manual gearbox so bought the foot shift kit for those times I DID want to manually change. That made the bike so versatile and any rider who disses DCT should simply ride with the kit - it turns the bike into the best quick shifter I've ever tried - with the advantage that you can just leave the bike to itself at other times. I'm on a manual bike at the moment and despite my expectations, don't miss DCT as much as I thought. But it does depend on riding requirements and for the vast majority of riding situations, DCT can't be beaten. Performance? The NC is no rocket, but by no means slow for 'sensible' use - deceptively quick in fact. Anyone wanting more performance is probably out enjoying a bike solely for their own pleasure...but at the expense of most others.
@Bykersam
@Bykersam Жыл бұрын
Loved your comments and appreciate points that differ from mine, in terms of the seat I have a shad gel seat so alas I never feel bumps or hard surfaces through the seat, infact I have yet to use a standard NC750x seat, so I gues I'm slightly in the wrong as I haven't pointed out the standard is not so good. The frunk for me is a God sent as I do long distance, but I totally agree it's size is impractical for large helmets, plus I too would love if the fuel could have been pumped externally rather than via the raising of the pillion seat. The usb for me is a must as I do cross countries alot but I also appreciate your point of view. It's engine is tough and smooth but not fast and that is appealing to me but not the majority who call this bike slow. I do believe that the DCT allows you to make this bike feel faster if you flick gears accordingly. I have a few bikes but for distance I find this my favourite 👍

The tracer is fast, the nc is sedate, if you go for a dct then you have no option but to go for the nc, for me the dct function makes the nc the most fun and easiest to ride, albeit a days training maybe required to get use to the DCT. If you go for manual them the tracer is more formidable, though the nc has a bigger following and is pretty much bullet proof.

How would you rate the comfort level? I’m assuming it’s pretty comfortable from all your riding but I’d still be interested to know. I got the CB650R last year and despite me getting a custom seat, I still can’t ride more than 2 hours without walking like a cowgirl🤣 so I’ve been eyeing this bike for absolute comfort and long riding. Great vid btw, absolutely lovely scenery!! Makes me want to be there!
@Bykersam
@Bykersam Жыл бұрын
Hi Kathryn, so the thing to note is no bike is comfortable after 2 hours, so we have to do a few things to make it bearable, I added a gel seat from Shad which is 100 times better than the original seat, additionally I would stand on the pegs every 30 minutes for around 30 seconds allowing blood circulation to my rear lol this allows you to carry on comfortably for another 30 minutes or so. Of course you need a bike that allows you to stand which most adventure bikes do but sports bikes not necessarily. I hope that helps - stay safe on two wheels 🙏🏼🤲🙏🏼

What are your suggestions on an effective suspension upgrade please?
@Bykersam
@Bykersam Жыл бұрын
I didn't upgrade mine, it's fine for me but I did change the base link so as to increase the height and ground clearance, this affectively also softened the suspension I felt though It might be just illusion but I did feel it was less tough. Additionally the air pressure recommended in the tyre by honda just makes this bike tough to ride so I go with 34 37 and that's perfect for me.

Plainly, this is not the appropriate bike for this type of trip. A 'true' adventure bike with a larger tank, more ground clearance and tires with a more aggressive tread would have served you better. But as you stated, the fuel economy helps to make up for the smaller tank.
@Bykersam
@Bykersam 7 ай бұрын
To be honest and with all due respect, I disagree, having motorcycled over 70 countries and having ridden for 37 years, I say to most, the best bike is the one you are most comfortable riding and comfortable on. Ground clearance when 99.99% of the road is tarmac is a moot point, road tyres are by far the best as you are on the road not off-road. Though the caveat I would add is, each to there own. I agree if you or anybody feels they would prefer a different bike, then that's the beauty of biking, they can pursue there choice. 👍👍👍

Adding a usb charger and re-routing the gas cap opening to the upper side (e.g. bmw f700gs) would be very inexpensive propositions for Honda. For calling it an adventure bike, the gas cap location loses a lot of potential sales for Honda.
