Million mile hondas use this filter. I question oil filters that filter well....i wonder if key to reliability is actually Flow > filtration. With oil quality /intake filter > quality of oil filter.

I winder if its really the Honda oil, because if you look at the manual on a 2016 Honda there is an A and B and on the A you just drain the oil but don't change the filter. I always find that weird and im still sorting out if I should just stay official Honda stuff. we have been so far but this oil change we went with Fram Ultraguard and Valvoline advanced synthetic high mileage@@LoveLikeaHurricane

The A02 is now the factory OF on the Ridgeline and other Hondas. It's made by Fram to Honda specs. P type sealing gasket as spec'd by Honda. A02 has also tested as not very efficient, not even close to the EG or TG. Worth $8-9 from dealer or AZ? Not for me. Thanks for video.

I use oem from dealership and change every 5k, so I'm not concerned about durability. Ebay or Amazon might sell counterfeit filters. It's fine to use, Honda and Fram have contract to make them a certain way so engine starvation is minimized upon startup.
@averyalexander2303
@averyalexander2303 Жыл бұрын
I think you are right. Honda seems to have prioritized flow over filtration, probably to minimize the amount of oil bypassing the filter when the engine is cold or when the filter gets clogged from someone ignoring maintenance. Assuming all else is equal, a more effective filter will clog faster too if neglected, which OEM engineers must consider. Remember that brands such as Honda and Toyota want their vehicles to still survive even if severely neglected since their reputation for being so durable is why many people buy them.

The Honda oem filter is a $4 filter they charge $9 for because it says "Honda" on the outside. . Maybe some day you could take a look at the Hyundai/Kia oems. I have weighed them side by side with a comparable Pulator One & found the OEM to be significantly heavier. I wonder what these oems look like inside? 🤔 Thanks for all the great info & content!

The Honda OEM oil filter is clearly not the same as any standard fare Fram filter. Honda rates their OEM oil filter as being capable of use over the course of two consecutive oil change intervals, some which I have seen extend beyond 12,000 miles. I am not aware of any standard Fram oil filter that is rated for two 12000 mi oil change intervals.

Hi there Whip City Wrencher. Since you produced this video to now, the price for one at Autozone is 12.99. It's the Honda OEM filter but it's a Honeywell which I believe is the bottom of the line Fram type filter that at most should only cost about $5 bucks in my opinion and I personally would not let it go past 3000 miles without changing it. Since I've begun doing my own oil changes to make sure it's done right, I ditched that cheap thing for a Purolator Boss on my 2018 Honda Civic that my daughter uses to drive back and forth to college and work. It's a much better heavier and much more well made filter. I still do the oil and filter changes at 5,000 miles even with that one. Engine oil and filters are cheap compared to new engines! The CRAZY thing about Honda is the fitment for this filter. The fitment for this tiny oil filter is for everything from that tiny Honda Fit all the way up to Pilot, Odyssesy Van and the Ridgeline pickup. I know Honda makes some great engines but this makes no sense at all to me to be putting this tiny filter a big V6 engine with that little amount of filter media in that cheap OEM filter. Maybe the Honda Repair Man is as lonely as the Maytag Repair Man so they need to get more work for them. Maybe one of your subscribers who works on Hondas can answer this. Appreciate all of your videos.

I'm OCD about changing the oil on all my vehicles. That Denso filter IMO is still fairly well made and I can get it Walmart for 7 bucks. Certainly much better compared to the Honda Oem. @@WhipCityWrencher during routine service, the mechanic poured excess oil into the engine which I realised the following morning, since I wanted to reuse the oil later for top up in case I needed some, I decided to siphon through the dipstick hole to avoid contamination. A medical syringe and an IV tubing was used for that, to strengthen the pipe I fastened it to a plastic straw using a masking tape at different points to straiten the tube, when sucking the oil the second time, I noticed that the oil had loosened the tape and it was slipping off, the tape at the tip was nowhere to be seen, it was left in the engine when the pipe was pulled out. On realising that, I replaced them all with an electrical insulation tape which did the job well and the engine oil level is where it should be, at the upper mark of the dip stick. Started the engine to see whether anything had been blocked but the oil pressure seems OK. I let it run for about 6mins to see whether anything would change but everything seems OK. Was worried that maybe the oil screen might be blocked, but I'm not sure whether it's something like a sieve or it's just hollow enough to allow the tape to get to the oil filter which I guess wouldn't be much of a worry Coz I'll replace the filter after 5,000km. I don't really know the internal design or how the oil flows inside the B20b engine. Thanks

@WhipCityWrencher 2 жыл бұрын
@@DunOpondo I'm not sure if your Honda has a regular pickup screen like most engines that I'm familiar with. What I would do is drain the oil, check and see if the tape is at the drain hole/or in the oil also change the oil filter. Open up the oil filter and check it out. In all honesty, I can't say if anything will happen but a piece of masking tape floating around in an engine is not a good thing. There are so many small passages that it can block and starve necessary parts of your engine. Let me know how you make out. Good luck!

Like Subaru, it looks like Honda has decided to have its oil filters sold in the US made to a low price point with paper endcaps and low quality filter media. My car came with a filter made by Tokyo Roki of higher quality but the dealer only has the US-made looks a blue Fram filter to sell. Thankfully there are many higher quality options made by Mann + Hummel to choose from.

Yes, for the price there are better filters out there

Sorry boss but those endcaps are not paper, they are made of similar fiber as what is used in the filter media. If those endcaps are paper than the filter media in your Tokyo Roki is paper. If paper = bad then the Tokyo Roki = bad.

@@TranslatedAssumption If the endcaps are made from a material similar to the filter media, that makes them paper since that is what it appears the media is made out of. The Tokyo Roki OEM filter that came on my Subaru has metal endcaps and based on a MrSubaru video I watched, the media looks like a synthetic blend. Neither are paper. Both Subaru and Honda look to have moved to lower end materials for the filters sold at dealers so I will either source the Subaru Tokyo Roki filter or use a higher quality filter like those made by Mann + Hummel. And I never said paper is bad, I just said there are higher quality options available. Personally I would never use a filter that did not have metal endcaps and I prefer a coil spring to a stamped spring.

@@jeffkortsch8276 that's fine, my point would be that many people just can't help themselves when it comes to bashing things like fiber end caps and yet there is no abundance of evidence to suggest that they are even remotely prone to failure. But still I continuously hear about "paper" endcaps.

People are speaking on the oil filter without even running it and giving feedback on how it held up… Here a video of the filter with 7,000 miles.. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qpl4f9qLq76td2g.html I say the structure looks dam good! 🤷🏽‍♂️ I’ll still be using OEM as I’m in a new car with warranty and NEVER had a problem with them…. I Change my oil 3,000-4,000 miles sometimes at 40-30% oil life. It may be over kill but its my money and my car. 👌🏽
