I've always used synthetic fram filters or mobile one extended performance on my honda which are rated for up to 20k. I've never gone past 7.5k between oil changes. It is very deceptive for these car companies to push the 10k oil change when they know their OEM filter isn't designed for that. Thanks for the insight.

In Europe for the last few decades we had blue Purflux Honda genuine filters, the ones with a zigzag pleat that were made in France. For the last few years dealers have switched to USA made ones like above. Maybe the old filters were too good.

What is the book where you showed the filter history? Interesting. My Kymco Spade 150cc motorcycle uses a metal mesh screen/strainer to filter the oil. I believe many small engines still use them. A magnetic drainplug would be extra nice to have on these engines using the strainer design. When i checked it on the first oil change it had hardly any debris on the mesh. It probably does more to catch wear particles from the clutch and gears than engine wear particles i would imagine.

End caps arent made of cardboard, and their only purpose is to maintain pleat spacing. Replaceable element filters have (wait for it), no end caps at all. I have owned Hondas, here in Canada where I live, since 1977. I also change oil on average, twice a year (Spring and Fall for example), and have never had any issues with engines, oil or filters. The crush washer oh the drain plug costs 25 cents to replace and is done each time the drain plug is removed. Never had any leaks. My Hondas since 2009 have used the maintenance minder system, however, the only time I have ever permitted my vehicles to go down to the 15% oil life remaining indication, is after doing all highway speed driving, otherwise I am changing the oil when oil life is closer to 30%. Oil is cheap and engines are not. So, no issues with a Canadian supplied Honda oil filter that uses the o-ring. And, all of my oil changes are done by the dealer. Simple and trouble free in my opinion.

@@repairvehicle No - none of that has ever been experienced by my with any of the 10 previous Honda vehicles I have owned. I guess by looking after them and treating the right, they have in turn provided me with outstanding performance and reliability. I can not say that about the Ford product or the Chrysler product that I also owned - both were distastrous vehicles with dealers that followed close behind. I have heard from other vehicle owners that the dealer you use for your service can make or break your ownership experience. I tend to agree. That is why I would not own a Subaru in the city I live in here in Sk. My parents, on the other hand live in Northwestern Ontario and have excellent experiences with the several Subaru’s they have owned. They attribute it all to the dealer. Perhaps any dealer would have seemed excellent to them after having dealt with an Oldsmobile dealer in the same city for decades.

Exactly, except the end caps are not paper or felt or cardboard. They are an engineered fiber and their sole purpose in life is to seal off the ends of the filter media so the oil is forced to go through the filter material, not around it. It is actually easier to glue the media to a softer fiber material than a hard metal end cap.

I asked you for data and you failed to provide any, so, not sure what else to do with my ''lack'' of questioning ability. Some of Honda's turbo engines had issues but it was oil related (NOAK volatility/ viscosity/ blowby) but not filter related. I do not believe they had accelerated ring wear or bearing wear, but the oil itself wasn't up to the task. They even came out with their own oil spec (HT0-6) to try and combat the issue. That looked like an older generation Lexus in the video is that the model before Toyota switch to the low tension piston rings that are known to have oil consumption issues? I was recommended by someone that even with the Amsoil they recommended the 5k to 7.5k tops because the rings are prone to clogging up if the oil is not changed in a timely manner. Does the Lexus owner have to add any oil between his 15k oil changes? My RAV4 does not burn any oil, just curious. Now I did notice that his car was a Hybrid and that might make a difference over a conventional engine since it is under less stress and does not run continuously. Thank you for sharing the link. @@repairvehicle

@saulja1000 it has low tension rings like all hybrids. Engine runs constantly because it’s highway driving and engine doesn’t turn off. It’s not older generation 2011. No oil consumption

Rings clogged up with low detergent oils and factory drain intervals. Amsoil is not low on detergent, amsoil is known for keeping it clean with long drain intervals

@@repairvehicle Honeywell owns Fram and sources the USA Honda brand filters. If you need proof, just do some simple research on Honeywell corporation and their subsidiary holdings. Fairly common knowledge in the business world.
