Old mechanic's tip: clean the bleed nozzle, put a piece of tubing going from the bleed nozzle to a bottle with some clean brake fluid to cover the open end of the tube. Open the bleed nozzle before you compress the pistons. The fluid in the pistons is usually degraded by heat and contains rust. Instead of forcing it back into the brake lines, you expel it to the waste bottle. And, since you've done most of the work needed to bleed the brake lines, this is a good time to replace the years-old brake fluid in the lines with new fluid since brake fluid is hygroscopic. At this point, it's only a few more minutes per wheel.

Straightforward, thorough, well demonstrated, and well narrated. Nice work!

One of the most simple and straightforward "how to" videos. Well done!

The brake rotor screw is not a Phillips screw. It’s a JIS (Japanese industrial Standards) crosshead screw. That’s why so many people strip them. They’re using the wrong screwdriver.

Tip: always service the slider pins and a lot easier to replace brake pad hardwares and push caliper pistons when you remove the caliper itself from its bracket.

I noticed you didn’t do anything with the slide pins. I thought those needed to be greased when replacing pads?
@dannyjohnsonsgarageАй бұрын
It is definitely a good idea to grease them as part of the service. The brake pads were evenly worn on this one and the total miles was not very high so did not disassemble the pins. There is always that risk as well of breaking something else or tearing the rubber boot. You certainly can if you’d like to.

Can you use the brake clamp spreader for both pistons if you don’t own a c clamp?
@dannyjohnsonsgarage3 ай бұрын
If you do, it’s best to leave the old brake pad in there on the piston side so both pistons compress at the same time. Otherwise, you have one piston go in and the other goes out.

Hello, where did you get the new brake hardware (the clips)? Thank you!
@dannyjohnsonsgarage4 ай бұрын
They came with the new brakes (import direct I believe was the brand) O’Riellys sell them last I checked

Did you install the inside pad indicator on top? My car from factory has indicator on bottom side of inside pad
@Youknewthatalready9 ай бұрын
same here. I'm wondering is this an error or the norm?
@danielgomes47545 ай бұрын
As long as they are on the inside they should be OK. Generally they are on the top but bottom is also acceptable.

Question do you have to replace the rotor every time you replace the pads
@dannyjohnsonsgarage Жыл бұрын
If there isn't a lip you can feel on the edge of the rotor, you can typically replace the pads only for one time. It also depends on driving habits, and the rotors may warp from heat, so you do run the risk of putting new pads on and still have a vibration when braking.

How did you take off rotor screw so easily?
@daxc19724 ай бұрын
LOL I live in rust belt and that screw is a mfer....one time I used a grinder to take off the head of that screw. And then after I never replaced that screw in any rotor I have replaced.

No need to bleed the brakes?
@dannyjohnsonsgarage6 ай бұрын
Not unless the master cylinder level fell so low it sucker air into the system, or if you removed a brake line and lost brake fluid

Hey Danny. I have an issue. My 02 mustang won’t come out of park unless I put it in the ACC and pressing the button on the shifter in before turning on the car. But once I put it back in park of the car is on, then I can’t get out of park again. Do you happen to know the fix for this?
@dannyjohnsonsgarage Жыл бұрын
I don’t since I don’t have any auto mustangs, but it may be related to the switch on the brake pedal or on the shifter itself there should be a safety switch
