Honda Ruckus Road trip: Southern California to Vegas

We always talked about how much fun it would be to do a road trip on our Honda Ruckus Scooters. It took us three days to get to Vegas and another four days to get back to California because of some unforeseen rain. With the max speed typically being less than most speed limits you tend to see so much more of the country. It really allows you to experience all the beauty this country has to offer that we usually pass by because of the interstate.
After this adventure I only know that there will be another road trip soon ... the destination is the only unknown.

Cool, cool, cool. When ever I take long trips on a scooter I always think to myself, this distance was traveled, on foot ( armies marching) or horse back or ox wagons. How lucky I am to ride on a scooter. Do don't need 1800 cc bike to have fun.

Exactly! I spend 15+ years on sub100cc bikes and recently upgraded to a rebel250. I can’t believe how many people trash on smaller bikes! This 250 is really the most i could need in daily driver. Ive relied solely on a 70cc scooter for the past year (had to modify a little to safely ride in traffic)

@@ChaycenGreen In both cases: The Way and the time on the road - and how you do it -how you cruise - is the Adventure. But it would be totally different, if you would ride high powered sport bikes. And you were not driving on these graffel roads. The 50 cc bikes looks too small, for a trip like this. But this is the challenge, to get this kind of feeling and adventure on the road. And the ruckus is more easy to ride. small, low, and light weight. And his wide tyres. And so in the movie "Easyrider" - Many viewers wants to cruise like this, after seen the movie. And many viewers of your video wants to cruise like this. ---------------------------- In fact - the two motorcycles in "Easyrider" were terrible to ride. It hurts his drivers, after a long day. And bad results for your healthy, if you drive it a long time. Because no shock absorbing at the rear wheels or under the seat. Thats not cool or funny.

In add 2007 Ruckus, and my wife had a Metro. Used to take them by ferry to San Juan and Orcas islands and had a blast riding all over the islands. We moved to the big island of Hawaii in 2011. We're maybe 10-12 miles from Leilani Estates where the lava breakouts are happening. Net a guy in Hilo that basically lived off his Ruckus. Tent, sleeping by and loads of gear. He even carried his small dog. He called every night. Knowing the Ruckus only carries about a gallon of gas, though mine averaged about 95 mpg, I asked him if he ever ran out. He said yes, but was always able to find someone with a little to spare. The Ruckus',s are huge here, though the newer ones are now considered to be motorcycles instead of mopeds. Wouldn't mind getting another Ruckus. Bikers here respect each other and consider scooter and moped riders with respect.

Scooter styled 50 cc moped. Scooters come in 125, 150, 250, 300, as far as I know all the way up to 500 cc, or is it 750 cc now. A scooter does not have to be limited to 50 CC. in the UK that's a moped, riders can be 16 years old and you can ride one with a Car licence. In some European countries you can actually ride up to 125 on a car licence, this is to encourage the use of two wheels over cars. Nice video, brave going all that way on 50cc. Can see why this video should have any down votes.

Are you only allowed on highways with 49cc and 50cc scooters? I have a 49cc and want to take a trip on my ruckus clone.

so cool, I am planning to do this when I got my Ruckus. That's why I ran into this vid. So cool. So stick to route 66 ?

Route 66 is a perfect road for a scooter trip. You will have to use some alternate routes but yes I would stick with route 66 as much as possible. Just map it out first. So get you a scooter and GO!!

I can't imagine riding those scooters from one state down to 1 or 2 other state. My ass would be so sore from sitting on those scooters for that long of a trip lol.

A great adventure. I live for these. Question. Are these bone stock scooters? I'd love to have one but fear they will not make the climb on some of these really steep grades around Vegas. I'm not asking if they have been converted into race bikes rather I am curious if you've done something to un-restrict the breathing or change the variable drive in anyway to better climb the hills.

These are completely stock. And my brother and I are both big guys and max the power out on these things but we still get around just fine, and the hills are never that big of a problem you just go a little slower.
@jetter820
@jetter820 7 жыл бұрын
Those hills must have been painfully slow with all that gear! Plus you're both big guys. I'm 180 lbs and I can barley maintain 25mph on hills.
@ChaycenGreen

VERY SLOW!! We both are 230+ so we can barely maintain 5mph on hills Haha :)

Great video. Hiw long was it each way? If you mentioned it I didnt catch it. I saw your 6 day return from Vegas but not sure how long you two stayed in Vegas. More importantly are you using the stock seat? If so how did your bottom hold up using the stock seats. Thanks and keep the vids coming. I'm very interested in getting a rukus. I like the 2022 grey one. It looks like a mini tdub. I currently have a 2021 tw200 and I think they make a great pair.
