First released in 1982. Honda's Magna range saw varying success around the world. The 50cc variant shares it's OHC engine with a bunch of other small Honda's and is a 4 speed, manual offering. Despite the size, it feels fine to ride, even for bigger folk!

I've heard of these little 50cc Honda Magnas,but this is the first review of one that I've seen. I got myself a 1994 Aprilia Red Rose Classic as my first bike,it's also a little 50cc cruiser (though it has a two stroke engine),so it's really cool to see more little 50cc cruisers.

@@SmallBikeStuff I actually know of four models,Fantic Chopper 50, Aprilia Red Rose 50 made from 1988 to 1992, Aprilia Red Rose Classic 50 made from 1992 to 2002, and Gilera Eaglet. The latter three were somewhat common here in Europe in the 90s and 2000s,but they're all pretty rare now. I'm glad I got mine when they could still be found and still have it.

Not many people place their ear 20cm from the exhaust pipe outlet, so holding the mic isn’t helpful really. A much better understanding of the sound came when you were riding it, which I exactly what riders hear - so much more realistic. Surprisingly nice bike… guess the 88cc helps. Nice vid - cheers.

Styling is similar to a Kawasaki 125cc Eliminator once sold in the USA.

Sliding into middle age headfirst, I've taken an interest in small bikes. I've ridden the supersports, the grand tourers, the ADV bikes. I own a Harley Dyna that is modified to handle well and make upwards of 100HP and an old Honda Sabre V4 that will eventually be given a custom frame and taken to the track. But I want something small that I can just jump on and ride around town or a few miles out to a scenic vista without having to worry about my bad back and knees or artificial hips. Something easy to ride and doesn't burn a ton of fuel. Something safe to ride when I'm having a bad day and don't need 120lb-ft of torque at the twist of a wrist. But I don't think I can go as low as a 50cc because of my height and weight. I would just get run over putting along at 25mph. Top choices would be a Svartpilen 401 or a RE Scrambler 411. I like to play in the dirt once in awhile but mostly just want to ride trails these days.

50cc is definitely an acquired taste for long term use but there are some great "bigger" bikes for the purpose you require. Good luck on the hunt!

A kick start would be nice, I agree - however I did a push/bump start off camera and it was quite easy to do so you wouldn't be stuck if the starter motor gave up.

I’ve never seen one of those before. Pretty sure they never sold them here in uk. Looks like fun though especially as it’s peppy enough to be useable with the big bore cylinder

My standard 4 stroke 50 went 40mph perfectly fine and that's with all the horrible restrictions on sound and emissions cuz otherwise grass eaters would start to get angry so I think just a rebuild but not an 80cc big bore

Thats a nice speed! I've ridden around 100 Honda 50's in the past 5 years and they've gone all sorts of speeds. Depends on how tired they are, the gearing (sprocket sizes), weight of the rider and more. It does look to be a big bore kit based on another viewers comments - definitely wasn't at it's "full speed" either. Thats as fast as I had room for.

Where did you get yours and how many you reckon in NZ? I just picked one up today. I've had tens of 50cc top tanks and this is far and away the best thing i've ever ridden.

@SmallBikeStuff their big bore kits are common on the CRF50's "kids" bikes. But obviously fit the same 50cc motor.

@@SmallBikeStuff that would make an interesting episode! It's an unassuming bike, but I believe the CG is the second most-copied motorcycle after the Cub. CG clone pushrod engines are in everything, standard bikes, dual sports, cargo trikes, tuktuks, motokars, atvs, it's crazy. Some are even fuel-injected and water cooled.
