Yes its suitable. I am a 300 lbs man and I took my 2005 shadow for long rides (2 + hrs) on the interstate all the time with no problems at all at 70 to 85 mph. I have also been about 110 mph riding with my buddy on his crouch rocket. 750 cc get a bad rep from people how make a shit load of money and wanna make fun of people who ride for the pure pleasure and not the COOL FACTOR. I ride because I enjoy not because I wanna be cool. Ride want you can, when you can, and fuck the people who say other wise!

Is a Shadow 750 big enough for a man? I guess perception is everything, since a Shadow 750 has the same seat height and a slightly longer wheelbase than a Harley Road King, and pretty evenly matched in performance. But nobody ever asks if a Road King is "big enough for a man". LOL!

Barry Ervin Evenly matched? NOT...Honda 43 hp and 47 lbs torque. 2002 RoadKing 62hp and ...well I think that says it all. Ride safe.

Yes, the Road King has twice the displacement, but only 50% more power, and weighs almost 300 lb. more. My point is not that the Honda Shadow is a fast bike (it isn't), but that a Harley Road King isn't either. But nobody notices because it says Harley-Davidson on the tank.

Barry I have both. A 2012 Honda Shadow Aero VT750C and a 2015 Harley-Davidson FLHP Road King Police. The road king out stops, out handles and out accelerates and has a huge advantage in comfort and top speed. They are not evenly matched at all. I do love My Honda Shadow Aero, I do. It can be a touring bike, a semi sporting bike and a great everyday bike. On slow empty back roads as I explore Tennessee I can get 72 mpg riding in 2nd and 3rd. gear at 18 to 25 mph. So that and the shaft drive is it's best feature.

If you were to compare a Honda Vtx 1340 with a 1994 evolution Harley i'd say you have a point. The 750 Shadow is, indeed, a good full size "little" cruiser. Bit to say it compares to a big twin Harley is ridiculous. A Twin Cam from 2008 will give you 95 pounds of torque at a very low 2500 rpm while the 750 honda vtwin will do 45 pounds at 3200 ish rpm. Do I think the Harley is more pleasant than the Honda? No. Is the Honda capable of doing everything the hd does while being cheaper and more reliable? Yes. But dont fool yourself, when it comes to cruiser motorcycle performances, displacement is the key.

I ride a 2011 Shadow Phantom, im 6'2 and my bike is an import and has Mustang touring seats fitted by the previous owner in the states. Its real comfy and smooth. plenty quick enough with my 13stone frame aboard. I saw 90 on the clock the other day and 70 plus is easily achieved all day. The limiting factor is not the bike, its the traffic clogged roads here in the U.K. You guys in the states are so lucky to have such big empty roads and cheap gas !

You've got to be kidding. If a Shadow 750 isn't big enough for solo touring, you need to learn how to ride. I have ridden to 37 states and piled up over 40,000 miles on a Honda Rebel 250. That's right, a Honda REBEL 250cc. I'm 6' 220. I did have to get another seat, and forward mount controls to fit properly, and ride in the right lane, but it pretty much kept up with right lane traffic. I rode it at WOT most of the time. A Rebel can be ridden at WOT for nearly 100,000 miles before it starts to show significant wear. I belong to a "minimalist" touring club, we ride bikes of no more than 250cc. The most common bike being a 250cc dual sport. But many have much smaller bikes. People have ridden around the world on bikes 100cc or smaller. And you're wondering if 750cc is enough? I also have a Kawasaki Vulcan 750, which tops out at 120 mph+, and will outrun most 1500cc cruisers. It is a left lane cruiser that will run 90 mph all day without even breathing hard, 3500 rpm below redline. But, since you have doubts, I wouldn't take any chances. Get a Goldwing 1800. Passing on the shoulder is illegal and dangerous. So is weaving back and forth like that. On a slower bike, those slow big trucks or someone towing a camp trailer are your friend. Fall in behind one and let them block traffic for you. Don't worry about what is going on in the left lane. In my state the speed limit is 75 mph, and I've been tailgated while doing 90+ If speed is your thing, get a Hayabusa or a Ninja ZX1400. You can go 180+. Speed is not what cruising is all about.

I have had bikes up to 1500cc, including a couple of cruisers and a 1500 six cylinder Goldwing. I have ridden the Iron Butt Saddlesore 1000 twice on Kawasaki Vulcan 750 (which has 48 hp compared to the Shadow 750's 30) I have well over half a million miles on bikes, and have ridden all over the U.S. (except for Alaska and Hawaii) . I started on small bikes, and did what everybody else does, moved up. But it reached a point where there was nothing to move up too (I don't like sport bikes, they have a very painful riding position. I found out that people were riding very long distances on small bikes, tried it, and got hooked. It is more of an adventure. Check out advrider.com, where you will find thousands of riders that have ridden ridiculous distances on really small bikes. One couple rode 17,000 miles on Honda Cubs. It's just a new way to get a thrill from riding when you've gotten bored with big bikes.

That is awesome. What kind of gas mileage do you get cross country on such a small bike? I fuel up every 110 miles with 4.4 gallon tank on my Yamaha Roadliner. They way I like to cruise I often wondered if I would be fine touring with a smaller bike. I guess it eventually comes down to an ego thing among riders as bigger is better. Maybe the big torque monsters are good for 2 up and lots of luggage but the minimal concept is very interesting! Thanks for sharing. T
@geraldscott7441
@geraldscott7441 7 жыл бұрын
The Rebel gets in the high 50/low 60 mph range at full throttle. It only holds 2.6 gallons, so you have to make a lot of gas stops. You have to check the oil at every other gas stop. That is normal. It is a very long lasting engine, much better than a 250cc single, because each piston only weighs half as much, so it has a higher redline. I went through the ego thing, and there was no place left to go. Believe me it is a lot harder and more dangerous to cross the country on a small bike than a big one. Small bikes wear you down faster as well, and take more effort to ride long distance on. It's a lot more of a challenge.
@tangogolfsierra9255
@tangogolfsierra9255 7 жыл бұрын
Sounds like a real challenge for sure. Never thought of the concept before on such small bikes. Question on your Kawasaki 750. Is that that an older retro bike from the 80s? Performance sounds impressive for a mid range cruiser. I'll have to research that ride as I know nothing about it. But I have talked to many that praise the Kawasaki line as comfortable, durable, cruisers.

My 2012 Honda Shadow Aero VT750C tops out at around 93 mph. You can run her at that speed for 20 min. but when you get home you will see she blew out about a quart of oil from overpressurizing the sump. So you need to add a quart of oil. I think she would do 75mph all day every day without blowing oil. So yes she can handle any Interstate, as long as you don't mind being constantly passed by speeders! She is still just about my favorite bike because I travel on the Interstate maybe once every several years. These days I have saddle bags "Connindales" from bicycles, waterproof cloth, very lightweight and good capacity. I have also dropped the stock bars way down, she looks like an old board track racer and she handles twice as good! I have the shocks in position 5, or hardest setting to control the handling, she will not wobble no matter how hard I push her on a technical back road. She's a keeper for sure!

I ride my 2007 Shadow Spirit 750 just fine...and I'm a grown man. I did sprocket modification, though; I replaced the rear 41 tooth sprocket with a 38 tooth one. Otherwise, it would rev-out at highway speeds over 60mph. Now, my bike and I can ride comfortably at 75-80mph, if I wish. The sprocket modification is very safe for the bike and engine. It's a very common modification discussed on the Honda Shadow forum.

The VT1100 developed problems after a shop in Allen,Tx screwed up replacing the rear wheel bearing. Ended up ruining the actual rear wheel and had to replace other parts of the drive train. I got the 01 Shadow 750 for a daily rider as the 1100 awaits some major restoration. I miss the difference in power but still have to keep an eye on my speed as the 750 does get out there quick and can sneak up to the 90's without any warning vibrations. Bigger bikes=bigger toys=bigger status. That's what it's all about when it comes to cruisers. 750cc is perfect for most people. Buying a 1500cc is like buying a sports car thinking you'll get the effect every time you go for a ride. You won't.

Buying a 1500 is not like buying a sportcar its like buying a v6 mustang ..buying a sportbike is like buying a sports car.. A newer stock mustang gt will absolutely ass paddle a 1500 cruiser ..big engine but still very very slow unless your only experience is say. 750 cruiser then itl feel a bit more peppy.

I have a 2008 Shadow Spirit with only 15k miles on it. I replaced the Spirit bars with Aero bars for greater pullback. I replaced the stock seat which made my rearend sore after an hour's worth of riding with a Mustang seat and made a 1-up rider out of it. I also added Honda leather saddlebags and a Switchblade windshield. I cruised from Kissimmee, FL to Connecticut and back. No problems riding Shadow 750 motorcycles on the highway plus they're great around-town bikes.

Did it give you issues over 80mph?
@rayk7612
@rayk7612 Жыл бұрын
@Ishdrip Typically I keep it under 80 mph but no, there wasn't any shake from the bags (rated 80 mph by Honda) or the Aero bars. I really liked the changes I made to the Shadow, but I traded in the bike a couple of years back for a leftover 2020 Harley Davidson Low Rider S, which I really enjoy.

I totally appreciate and understand the video. I have a 2007 Shadow 600cc and it acts exactly how you described. It is a 4 speed and it feels like it has to work super hard even to cruise at 60 mph. And don't even think about going 75 for an extended amount of time, the bike would have a heart attack. Its a great bike that is very reliable, but not a highway cruiser at all. Thanks for the video. 👍🤘

Hey Srkcycles Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Did you hang a left onto Yellow Goose from Harrisburg Pike? Saw you cruised down 283 south towards Lancaster (Route 30), then swung around at the Fruitville Pike interchange and headed back 283 north. I know these roads well my friend. Have cruised them many times on my Shadow Spirit as well. :-)

I used to ride a 2011 Shadow Phantom. Might be because I am a bigger guy, but I felt like it was wound out at 75 mph. Fastest I've gotten it was 85. I bought a Sportster 1200 and now I don't think twice about highway speeds.

Brandon Elbers I had a '94 sporty. I'm not a big guy, but the sporty felt small to me. riding 2 up was cramped. my phantom feels like a much bigger bike, and it is. around a 5" longer wheelbase. while the phantom may seem like it's revving out at 65mph, it's geared to do over 100mph. it'll run 65-70 all day, no problem. quite windy at that speed tho.

Yes, the 750 is big enough to cruise on, however, by adding a stage 1 mod, more hp and more importantly, more torque, at the rear wheel, can be had.

Sure you could but why? Yamaha Raiders are out for a decent price and at 1854cc (1900) they rock. Rented a V-45 magna in Thailand for a day and no bottom end torque like a big v-twin.

I had a 2012 phantom. Great comfortable bike, but it tops out at 88mph and take a long time to get there. Passing someone who's doing 70+ is a bit of an effort. The bike is best suited for roads marked for 65 or less. It's a great City and back road bike for sure.I sold it a year after I bought it and moved up to the Honda Fury, which I've had for the last 5 years, also a great bike for everything, and now I'm upgrading to the Valkyrie.
