Harley's look nicer but breaks down more. The thing that really upsets me with HD is that they still keep the overpriced prices when everybody knows they're not even on top of the competition anymore. Imagine if we could buy Dynas or Sporsters for $3-5k. Bro imagine how much HD sales would increase if they weren't such greedy snobs.

My first (and current) bike is a Shadow VLX Deluxe and it's the PERFECT beginner bike. I've gotten so much more confident on it and will be ready to upgrade soon, but I'll always love the Shadow. It's also got a special place in my heart because I live in Marysville, Ohio and my bike was built just down the road from me. My mom also worked at the factory and put the side covers on it when it was built!

I had one of these. I put 108,000 miles on my 97 I bought new in 98. Zero repairs and minimal maintenance I feel I really got my money’s worth. It still looked new when I traded it in on a VTX 1800. I’m really enjoying my ST1300 now but looking for an 18 and up Goldwing to take into retirement but I believe I will always remember that ACE as my favorite.

My ACE just had black wall tires and was the magenta and frost white color scheme. I pull the factory pipes off it shortly after buying it and put Cobra Bouelvard classic fishtail on it and Dynojet kit and a K N filter on it. I was just remiencing as I found some pics of it which brought me here. Cheers from Saskatchewan, Canada

I've owned many Motorcycles in my time including Harleys. I bought my 06 Shadow Spirit 1100 brand new and now have 50 thousand miles on it and still cant get enough of it. Only failures so far have been fuel pump at 40 thousand and voltage regulator recently. Very reliable and easy maintenance bikes. Looking to get 100+ thousand out of it. And had to tune carbs recently because of some sitting for longer periods of time. that's it.

I loved my 1998 Honda 1100 Shadow ACE. It was a beautiful bike and I put some serious miles on it. I weigh around 300 and my daughter around 180. We still cruised 90 mph when necessary. In South Florida, I-95 seems to be a speed suggestion. The bike was totaled when I was hit from behind in 2004.

Started riding last year and started on a shadow vlx 600 pearl white. Went to a vtx 1300 in the same year. Daily commute and empty parking lots can increase your skills faster than just weekend rides. Went on a long ride and the 600 showed it's limitation against head winds. All my buddies have over 1200cc and i couldn't keep up while fighting wind. Had her gunned and she couldn't get past 75. My 1300 has power in every gear only downside is she a big lady. Hopping on the shadow after the vtx, the 600 feels so light and flick able.

The ACE at $2,500 is great value. The Shadow that replaced the ACE - the Aero 1100 - is possibly even prettier with that monstrous 2-into-1 chrome exhaust and big headlight with the integrated speedo. The two years with the single pin crank - '98 and '99 - made that thing look and sound like an instant classic.

I'm currently riding a '98 Shadow Ace 750 (VT750CD2) in the same paint colors. When I bought it six years ago good used Shadows were going for about $3000, and I paid a little less than that. Aside from regular maintenance it's given me no trouble at all. Last time gas was four bucks a gallon I commuted on it, and i've put a bunch of miles on. Best day so far: I rode it from Maine to Laconia and back on first day of Bike Week in 2019.

We bought our son a 2008 Honda Shadow - spirit I think? It had the raked front end...really a cool bike that rode SO easy - even me being a HD guy...I had to admit I liked it. Now 6 years after we got it for him, he has zero plans to trade it. He lived in Colorado and had it rejetted for altitude...then reset it back when he moved out of the mountains. He's a firefighter/EMT and it's his stress relief and he and his wife actually rode it away from their wedding. Pretty cool pics and video. I've had great luck mechanically with my HDs over the years I know...but I think all he's ever done to that bike is some rubber, oil changed, and that carb work for when he lived at 11,000 feet. The Shadow is a great line. Totally should get more love from anyone who wants to not ride HD.

I’m a new rider, and that’s the biggest reason I have been looking for a shadow. You see guys of all backgrounds riding them, they look awesome, and as a tall man standing at 6’ 5” sometimes it’s hard to find bikes I can fit on and not look ridiculous. But in my searches, most of the shadows I see in good to very good co diction go for about 4000 bucks in my area, so it won’t break the bank. Love em

One time I rode it to Big Bend National Park from Ft Hood. I loved that thing.

Honda really got the attention of Harley, with the ACE, and the Aero 1100. I wanted an Aero 1100, ever since they came out with them in 98. Finally got one a couple years ago, turquoise blue, and black. It was a 99, and had the single pin crank. The long two into one fishtail exhaust was slightly modified for a louder tone, and man it sounded righteous. Beautiful, reliable bike. The only place I think Honda dropped the ball on it, was giving it only 5 speeds. It's my understanding, that Harely actually sued Honda over the Aero, and the single pin crank desigin. Thanks for the great review.

Rode one for years. Shaft drive low maintenance, but the whitewall Dunlop tires were impossible to keep clean like in the video. The single pin crank shook so much on the kickstand that it ensured you replaced the battery every 12-16 months. Sweet spot on the highway was 70mph, but would do 120 with plenty to spare. I put on a nice tuned set of Bubs pipes and rejetted the carb. I paid $6k brand new back in 1990s.

This was my first bike - 1995 ACE 1100 -first year of that model with the single pin that gave it that sound. Two tone red and white with Dunlop white walls like this one. Thought I'd have to dodge a bunch of bullets from people all over Milwaukee for "not gettin' a Harley!" - but people actually loved that bike - just kept getting compliments on it everywhere I went. Miss the hell out of that bike now -rode it for seven years all up and down Wisconsin and never left me stranded in 40K+ miles of riding. I can still remember starting it up the first time I brought it home -and couldn't believe they got away with it sounding that much like a Harley, even with the stock exhaust. I later looked it up on my laptop and -oh yeah, they didn't:-) This was the infamous Bike Harley sued Honda over and later Kawasaki I believe. I later put the slash-cut Jardine's they made for this motor which amplified the Harley sound even more and then added cobra boards like the example in the video. Was a great bike to learn on -got excellent mileage and very nimble handling, plus a great road trip machine. Honda knocked it out of the park with this bike for sure

@@mssandrajean One of the first things I added to mine were the cobra floor boards that bolt right to the frame. They don't come cheap but worth every penny -you should be able to to find those on e-bay for around $250. They made a world of difference in my riding as a newby and were extremely comfortable on road trips and tooling around alike. Added Kuryakyn-iso hand grips that same year too and loved those also. Have a blast on your new ride:-)

I love my Shadow Sabre 1100. I'm 5'5'' it was my first bike. Put the Vans n Hines pro pipe and a jet kit on it, KN Filter. Its so much more fun on my commutes. My front fender is Plastic though. Just a thick one thought it was metal until I got a deep scratch on it.

I love your chanels man, and I love that you share bible verses. I am looking into getting into motorcycles and getting my first one and you have been incredibly informative and helpful. I actually was interested in the ace and saw it on your website and I'm kicking myself for not driving up from Alabama to get it. I'll tell you this, my first bike will be purchased from you guys. Be blessed guys!

Hey man I absolutely LOVE this channel!! I started riding in 84 while in high school and have had mostly sport bikes over the years but I love all bikes. I bought a 1996 Honda CBR1000F a few years back for $900 that was pretty trashed but only had 12,000 miles on it, it has taken me a fee years and about $2000 to get it back to stock and running like it should. SO just wanted ask ask if you had any thoughts on my particular bike? Be safe and take care!!! 😎🙏

I have one of these. Im actually currently building it into a bobber. Bulletproof engine, but a weak aftermarket offering. Docile engine, very easy to learn on. Looking forward to the new Rebel 1100.

Had 1996 ACE 1100 for several years, great bike with some glaring flaws built in. The ACE was a 5 speed, single crank pin engine. Those are the pluses! The negatives were that the early models rider footpeg location was sort of mid ish control combined with the wide tank made seating position like a vertical OBGYN exam. The bikes that came without footboards still included the heel/toe shifter which was useless and the rear section catches your leg as the try to get your foot onto the peg. Most aftermarket stuff for the early bikes has long been discontinued.

@@mixiepalms8338 ... Long workday. I bought a 2003 Shadow Spirit 1100 a couple months ago. Freshening it up a bit. Should be a good ride. I'm a year and 3 months away from thinking about retiring at 70. The only bike I have that I have opted out of riding is an '86 XL600R that is kick-start only. Knee's just a little too beat up to stab that jumbo piston.

Just picked up a 98’ Shadow ACE 750 with that same red/white paint scheme yesterday. Previous owner took very good care of it. Only 18k miles on it! It’s a beauty, and paid $2200. I would like to replace the pegs with some floorboards and it’ll make a sweet commute bike

I own hondas and a Harley and can easily say Honda is my bike of choice. My VTX 1300R is simply the best . Right 1300 cc engine, right suspension, right weight and blows the doors off my Harley Road king. The Road king is a nice bike. The VLX 600, VTX 1300R and Goldwing are FANTASTIC BIKES. Yes I know, my wife doesn't think anyone should own 4 bikes either.
