I did the first spark plug change on a 2003 Civic EX, I do not know the history of the car. Millage is 116,00 miles. I found this very helpful, I purchased same parts shown in this video. I purchased a magnetic 5/8 socket and it did make the job easier.. Car runs fantastic now, smooth and quiet. Thanks Big Dog Auto.

Good video. I'm the same way about putting a little antisieze on the plugs. Done to many where they don't use any, and when trying to remove them you pray that the threads don't come out with the plug. Also do the same with install, I prefer feel over torque, especially on aluminum heads.

It certainly won't hurt, but unless some of the coils are not working properly or the plugs are in really bad shape it probably will not fix your issue.

Not completely necessary but not a bad idea it if it over 15 years old or so. I would not install anything but Denso or OEM Honda if they are going to be replaced though. The original old OEM Hondas are much better than new cheap aftermarket ones.

My 03 civic ex has 132,000 miles. Do the original coils typically go out before 200,000 miles? And if my coils are bad will they show up as a misfire reading when hooked up to a code reader/scanner? Two honda dealership mechanics are telling me different things.
@BigDog50001
@BigDog50001 4 жыл бұрын
Generally no, Honda coils do not typically fail at 130,000 miles (although it is not unheard of especially due to the age of the vehicle). If it is misfiring, sometimes it will set a check engine light but not always depending on how serious the misfire is. To see real time misfire data you usually need a more expensive scan tool. I just did a P0303 video, and although it is for a V6, it shows some things I think about when diagnosing these things. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gK51fb2QrdzXqGQ.html

180 degree turn after finger tight seems scary to me. I recently did my Mazda 3 with NGK's and it felt really snug after a little over a 1/4 turn so I left it. Maybe Honda's are different.
@BigDog50001
@BigDog50001 4 жыл бұрын
You have to look at how the plugs are designed, in this case this is exactly how NGK says to install this type of plug right on the packaging (the washer/gasket is designed to crush down right about 180 degrees or slightly more on new plugs). If reinstalling plugs you would not turn them that much because the gasket is already crushed down. Obviously other plug designs can be different.

@BigDog50001
@BigDog50001 4 жыл бұрын
They are pretty reliable, I would not put cheap ones in if the original ones are still working good. OEM or Denso is pretty much the only ones I use on Hondas.

I have 06 honda Accord 4 Cylinder, how often should i replace spark plugs and coils?
@BigDog50001
@BigDog50001 5 жыл бұрын
The spark plugs on those generations are supposed to be replaced every 110,000 miles according to Honda service info. I like to do them right at about 100,000. The coils do not have a recommended replacement interval, but I generally recommend replacing them if the vehicle is 15 years or older or has over 200,000 miles on the original coils.

I have a 2003 Honda Civic Hybrid 5 spd. The engine suddenly quit. The shop working on the car says only one cylinder is firing. He doubts all 8 spark plugs (2 sparkplugs per cylinder) and coils could fail at once and out of the blue. He thinks it's an electrical issue, or a fuel supply issue. Any ideas?

if you use anti seize with a torque wrench lower the torque ft/lb by 20% or you will over tighten it!!!
@BigDog50001
@BigDog50001 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, anything that lubricates the threads can effect torque. Just remember, Honda service info states states to use anti seize and then says to torque it down, so I believe they have accounted for the anti seize in their service info. That being said I still like to do it by feel on these. Thanks for the input.

Don't most Honda's call for iridium plugs?
@BigDog50001
@BigDog50001 5 жыл бұрын
Many newer Hondas use Iridium but many older Hondas do not. Iridium plugs can be used as a replacement for many applications but the original plugs that Honda used vary. NGK platinum is the original OEM plug for the Civic in this video. I generally stick with the plug that the manufacturer recommends (and designed the car for).
