Hey, very helpful video, (once I turned captions on, I should've read description first lol)! I have same problem, 01 civic bmxa AT not wanting to shift, and looking for anything that could potentially help short of rebuild/replace. I've been an auto tech for years though the extent of trans work we did was simple pan drops/filter replacement. Excellent job of showing where to check for potential clogs and seal leaks! I'll be trying this asap, hoping this is doable with trans still installed lol. And disregard the negative comments...idiots.. And 170 dislikes? If someone found and watched, one would think it should have at least been informative to them.. but great video thanks!

bought Honda Wrv i-Dtec in june 2017. While down shifting of gear from third to second and subsequent second to first 80% of time it is very hard, i have to apply extra pressure. Many times i find it unable to shift and in traffice even it takes so much of time that speed of car lowers to near zero and every one behind me start honking their horn. It feels like gear shifting rod has become glued some where and like attrition when rubbing two stone block. I am unable to understand whether it is rear technical problem or regular with diesal engine.

Hello Adam, Thanks for the video. We have a 1990 Honda Accord with an automatic transmission. My son's first car and we just changed the timing belt. Now this. When shifting into reverse it makes a grinding noise but does not engage. Drives fine in all forward gears. Will cleaning screens or replacing the solenoids have any effect in this case? Could the shift linkage be out of adjustment. Also, sometimes the transmissions shifts fine into reverse. Is it controlled by pressure? We have only had this problem two days and can't make rhyme or reason why? The car is probably only worth $1000 but we have spent that much fixing it up besides. Appreciate any tips you might offer. Thank you for your time. It is much appreciated.

I have found that there are several problems with these cars! First thing I check is the ECU there is a cowl leak that oxidizes the ECU box and the circuit board. This leads to poor grounding and shift problems. Also the rectifiers on the board need to be cooled by the case so a corroded case leads to poor cooling. Unfortunate the case is the heat-sink. Next check and clean solenoids.Then check speed sensor! The Speed sensor plug gets corroded and leads to poor connections and then a bad unit. Used Dial-electric silicone on these. Good luck

Hi there sorry but I'm not fortune teller... :) transmission is very complicated and can be anything, first ask Yourself if transmission was ever serviced, what oil was used,if oil level is ok etc. Can be 10 things that without opening is hard to find out. Solenoids are outside so can be accessed from outside all the rest no. Transmission changes gears by pressure of oil that goes where it has to go if there's anything clogged then problem comes.Parts like clutches can be worn too especially first and second,oil filter can be dirty but all stays inside Hondas transmission.You can flush transmission in specialised centers but most of the times doesn't help without pulling apart. Good luck

@hamzi12206 жыл бұрын
Hey bud I have a 2004 TL with rebuild transmission and 2nd to 1st hard shift is totally normal for those transmissions . I know what your talking about it almost kind of give you a tiny really tiny bit of jerk when stoping that’s totally normal and take my advice change your transmission fluid not every 30,000 miles but I’d do it every 15,000 miles to keep the transmission nice and clean and happy 😊
@enriqueortiz54406 жыл бұрын
My civic had similar problems for a while, then it simply wouldn't downshift at all and rev like it was in neutral at 134k. Honda listed the fluid change interval for 120,000 miles under normal conditions (I think it's a crock of shit because after 90k it was down shifting hard). Been changing it every 15k since that incident, and now at 205,594, it's going strong.
@hamzi12206 жыл бұрын
Enrique Ortiz ya don’t listen to anything Owners Manual says. My 2004 Acura TL Manual says to change the fluid every 60,000 miles. But if I drive normal I don’t need to change the fluid. Ya right get the fuck out of here 😂. It’s a big scheme to fuck up all the owners because after there dealer warranty expires at 100,000 miles and the customer never changed the fluid then another 20,000 miles later there transmission will say good buy and they will probably end up selling it and buying a new one 😂. I got my transmission rebuild from AAMCO and they recommend me to change the fluid every 15,000 miles to keep it clean and running smooth and I’ve been doing that since 130,000 miles and now my car has 230,000 miles and the transmission shits so smooth that I don’t even feel the shift it shifts like butter 😂
@robbym35425 жыл бұрын
Gabriel Gonzalez if it’s when you are coming to a stop in auto mode then it doesn’t go into 1st gear. It goes down to second and then when it should go to 1st it actually pops into neutral. This feels like a hard downshift because the car goes from engine braking to free wheeling and the rms drop.

Whats the reason of delayed engagement on first to second gear when stop and go traffic jams on working temperature? The problem is like this. Gears are shifting smoothly from the start. then after 10-20 miles of driving the first gear neds RPM 3000-3500 to catch second gear. This only happening some times and also after 10-20 miles of driving and when driving in stop and go traffic jams (hope its on the optimum temperature that time of drive tranny in) Tranny was rebuilt recently and that problem was there before and after rebuilt too. Check your fluid. Did you add the proper amount? Is there a slow leak that you maybe didn't notice and it lost enough to start acting up? What fluid did you use? Also depends on how well cared for the trans was previously. If it was changed after being neglected for a long time then that could also cause those issues

Enrique Ortiz it’s the vtec solenoid that’s causing that problem...it won’t let it rev above 3k rpm
