Thanks for your review of these. I was offered 'a few trinkets' when I ordered my bike, being the first one to order it here in South Australia, and I asked for these, based partly on another (Australian) review that believed they worked, after swapping between bikes with and without them. I ordered my bike (and these parts) at the end of July, and although I got my bike in mid-September, I still have not received the deflectors (and some off-road footrests) now nearing the end of November. The standard screen is reasonably effective for my height (just over 5' 9") but on a recent trip interstate with cross winds I felt it could use some assistance. So I'm glad you tested them and found them worthwhile, while I wait patiently. A good idea to fit them to one side at first, and compare. I hope this excessive time delay on mine isn't going to be typical for parts supply with this bike, and the supply settles down once the initial rush is over! But 5,000 kms in, and I am still enjoying it, and I have done a lot of miles on a lot of bikes... It is an understated but useful machine, that goes about its work with a minimum of fuss. It is happy at any speed, which might sound like an odd comment, but which not every bike offers, and the fuel economy is amazing, even at higher speed. A few 'niggles' of course, but a very good value motorcycle for the price. Suspensions can be upgraded, and I guess I could add a separate ambient temperature gauge, but you have to wonder how that detail got missed, in the midst of so much information on offer, when so many inexpensive models include an air temp. gauge. But I can promise new owners that the engine becomes smoother, and engine noise quietens, after it is run in. Nice to have a bike that improved as you rode.

Hello, thank you for your comment. You are welcome, I am glad you found it useful 😊 Hopefully they arrive soon for you, it sounds like you will find the deflectors beneficial. I’m just over 6’2 so I use the taller screen, unfortunately the standard screen just pushed the wind into my eyes. The full package of deflectors and a taller screen make it a very comfortable ride for me. I believe there are a few parts delayed, I presume as time goes by and as the amount of aftermarket options increase, parts will be easier to come by. I completely agree, I don’t ride fast but the bike is happy to ride at any speed I want it to do and I have been very surprised with how good the fuel economy is. The missing ambient temperature gauge doesn’t bother me, however it does seem an oversight from Honda. If they can include a throttle angle reading why not an ambient temperature gauge? I too have found the bike becomes smoother the more ride ride it. Personally I think the bike is fantastic value for money, I can’t really fault it to be honest 😊 I absolutely love it! What other aftermarket options have you gone for apart from deflectors and foot pegs?

I am keen to keep the weight minimal, and removed the rear rack/handle as it is weighty, and a bit huge, and made a lighter one. I just fitted a B & B bash-plate yesterday, which unfortunately is also a bit heavy, but I will 'prune' some weight from that in the future by lightening its (steel) mounting brackets. But where I ride I should have a bash-plate, and they are all a bit ugly and heavy for this model. I got this one simply because the shop that sold me the bike had it in stock, which saved a wait. I also reversed the handlebar risers, which moves the 'bars slightly forward, and feels more 'natural'. I also fitted a pair of Pirelli Scorpion STR tyres this week as the stock rear was worn out, and I do a lot of miles on dirt roads here. But I will only alter the bike minimally from now, with a focus on retaining its relatively light weight, which is one of its best feature to me. I intend replacing many fasteners in lighter material.@@TyresNTorque

@@patkennedy1 Wow, lots of changes and lots to do. How many Kg do you think you have removed from the bike so far? I presume removing the rear rack is most noticeable with the weight being higher up?
@patkennedy1
@patkennedy1 9 ай бұрын
I haven't saved weight really as the bash-plate weighs more than I have removed so far. The more dirt-orientated tyres are also heavier than the stockers, so many of the mods we want to do to this bike unfortunately increase its weight. My aim is to reduce its weight back to the stock weight, with the bash-plate fitted. I have saved well over a kg with the lighter rack, and will lose a bit more with a lithium battery (all my bikes have those). Lightweight parts and fasteners are a slow way to lose weight, but I am determined to keep going! I will shave a few grams off the bash-plate and its heavy brackets, but will be keeping an eye out for a lighter alternative. A great video from Pavlin (the Bulgarian who calls himself Motorcycle Adventures I think) regarding overweight bikes, and I just wrote a bit of background on my weight obsession under that, which will help you understand my illness! Maybe...

@@TyresNTorque Yes. I often find higher screens make things worse. I go wider every time now if needed and it always works for me. Had an AT1000 which had terrible wind buffeting above 50 mph, tried higher and it made it worse. Tried all sorts of things that did not work. Then decided to try making up some deflectors like the OEM accessories using thick cardboard covered in waterproof tape and placing them in the same position as the OEM ones. Worked a treat, cured all the problems. A few manufacturers like Triumph have had wide deflectors on some models for a while now.

@@blackskunk54 Thank you for this 😊 Good thinking making some up with cardboard. It would be interesting to see if more/different wind deflectors on the Transalp would help even more or not. Thank you for sharing your experience. I am trying different motorcycles, and transalp is one of them. It could be the right bike for me, except for the unpleasant whistling noise generated at 71-77 miles per hour, the speed at which I usually ride. At the store they told me that I am not the only one who has noticed this; They attribute it to a reverberation of the wind on the fork and the engine. Have you perceived it? Did you give him any solution? Thanks for your time.

Hello 👋 Thank you very much for your comment. The Transalp is a fantastic bike and I would highly recommend getting booked in on a test ride if possible 😊 I do not go above 70mph and so I have not noticed this noise. The only slight whistling I get is from my helmet with the camera and microphone on the front. I also have the Metzler Karoo Street tyres which do make a little noise at the 65/70 mark so this may be why I cannot hear any whistling. However the tyre noise is not really that loud. Sorry I cannot give you any more info on this or provide a solution. If I can help with anything else, just let me know 😊 Please subscribe, it’s a huge help in growing my channel.

Hello, very interesting. I often ride long distances and have a V-Strom 1000 with a Givi Airflow windshield. What I want to ask is, do you have no turbulence at all at speeds up to 70 miles? Which helmet do you have? It seems that the Honda's original large windshield is absolutely quiet. About the same or even quieter than my Givi Airflow. It's important for me to ride a motorcycle that doesn't damage my hearing. I need earplugs on longer tours anyway and I am thinking about buying this motorcycle. Thank you!

Hello, thank you very much for your comment 😊 I have a HJC C70 and I mainly ride with the visor up and the sun visor down (unless I am in low light conditions). I don’t find there is much turbulence but if there is a cross wind then you still get hit by the wind a little. However I suppose this is the same on any bike. The wind deflectors certainly improve things though 😊 The taller Honda screen is fantastic, I have not used any other screen other than the standard screen though, so there may be better ones out there. I am 6’2” so I stick up higher than most, I’m sure shorter riders would have even more protection than I do 😊 Do you have a Honda dealership close to you for a test ride?

Hi, thanks for the quick response. A Honda dealer is close by. I will test the Transalp there. I'm traveling in just a week and the distance to the ferry is 800 km. I tested the Givi Airflow again yesterday. My height is 1.81m. On my V-Strom I can set the windshield steeper or flatter in three different positions. If I set it steeply forward and push the windshield all the way up so that I can see completely through the windshield, it is absolutely turbulence-free. But I only do that on the highway for long distances. Unfortunately I lost my Alpine Motosafe earplugs and ordered new ones yesterday. Of all the different earplugs, these are the best. Available in race or tour. Overall, I was amazed at the quiet Honda window. You have to keep comparing. Always have a good trip!
