Regenerative braking is a technology on electrified Honda vehicles that helps recharge your vehicle’s high-voltage battery while driving. This provides you with additional electric driving range while also reducing brake pad wear. Please see HondaHelp.ca for videos applicable to your vehicle.

I fell in love with the regenerative braking on my 2024 Accord Touring Hybrid! In fact now when I drive my traditional 2019 Ford F-150 I catch myself feeling for the paddle to increase braking. My biggest problem with the paddles came when I found them... The dealer didn't mention what they were or how they work. ( if they did, it did not sink in after being introduced to all the new gadgets!) Paddles on the steering wheel are for shifting the transmission, right? Honda probably should sit you down and watch several videos before turning you loose. Active Lane Assist, Regenerative Braking, Collision Avoidance, Re-Active Cruise Control....... On the subject of Braking and Cruise Control if you start coasting too fast down a hill in cruise control it fill engage regenerative braking and turn on the Brake lights! I tend to react to Brake lights on the vehicle in front of me. All in all I like the car. I have what I call a "Smarter than Me" phone and now I have a "Smarter than Me" car!

When you want it to go up, you use the left paddle minus function, but when you want it to go down, you use the right paddle plus function. Well, that's confusing.

Agreed. As well as it's only permanently available in sport mode setting. It increases economy but is not available in economy mode.

It makes sense to me. Braking is a negative thing, so by tapping negative paddle you are increasing the magnitude of negative force

Why would sport mode maintain regin breaking rather than economy mode? Doesn't regenerative breaking increase economy? But that's only permanently available in the least economic setting?

If you hold (-) down once it's in drive you'll have it for the entire trip

Is that true for 2024 model? I tried holding negative paddle down but couldn’t get M mode to stick. Even shut car off and on thinking there’s a limited window. I use B on the shifter around town which is effectively like M

@@357STEPSkeep in mind going to neutral, reverse or park as well as adaptive cruise control will reset it. Depends on what you consider a trip I guess.

@@teamwounder Using B in town all the time I think would use more gas to overcome the constant deceleration effect.

I have noticed that if you are driving along at a constant speed and select increasing levels of the regen braking, the car will slow down and you have to give it more gas to maintain the same speed. Seems like this is counterproductive and is burning up more gas. Why would the system begin slowing you down when you haven't let up on the gas? So far this doesn't make sense to me.

I don’t get why I’d want it on either. I guess to charge the battery quicker. Or to save the brake pads since the car slows by just cutting the engine speed

@@Thebuird I have since done a lot more testing with the system and found that my first comment is not correct. The system does not produce any extra drag. It was just an illusion. In the meantime I have used the regen braking extensively and have found that it actually is super excellent. For city driving I get 54 mpg, and around 46-49 in mixed driving. I also have completely come to love the regen braking effect because this car can be driven with one pedal driving, where the regen braking does nearly all the braking. I almost never touch the regular brakes anymore, which means they are going to last forever. It's really quite fantastic.

@@johnschmidt8440 thanks for the info! I just leased a 2024 CRV Hybrid two days ago. Came from a 2020 Camry Hybrid. I’m definitely going to try it out more, I was hesitant about it. Saving on brake pads would be great, I hate paying for new pads. I’m still confused by how extra mileage is produced, but I’m going to test it out and hopefully I can mimic what you’re able to pull off. We’re absolutely loving the vehicle and am very happy we switched to Honda

@@Thebuird A CRV is unlikely to get as good of mileage as I get in an Accord, but it will still be better than a pure gas vehicle. So give it a shot and see what happens!

if we press teh brake pedal, does it charge the battery?
@loneranger3977
@loneranger3977 3 ай бұрын
Yes. That works as well. It’s better to use the paddles because the electric motor slows you down instead of your break pads. This will extend the life of you break pads and give you better gas mileage
