Have you ever wondered what it's like to fly a HondaJet by yourself? Well, we have been asked so many times that we decided it was time to make a video about it.
Join Jonathan for a single pilot flight from Greensboro, NC (KGSO) to Austin, TX (KAUS) with a layover in Monroe, LA (KMLU), bringing the aircraft to an event for our fleet customer Volato. You'll learn fun facts, useful tips, and be entertained along the way.

Great video - you're by far the most informative of the pilots I follow and the commentary is really appreciated. It's really interesting to hear about the procedures, decision-making processes and insights into what it's like to be a pilot and how to fly these complex aircraft. The helicopter was "interesting" and I loved it when the controller said "TCAS doesn't help me". He sounded like a favourite but slightly grumpy teacher at school...

Hi, Jonathan here! I appreciate your comment, because you just taught me something. After I looked up “shisa kanko” I understood completely. Pointing out important observations inside and outside the aircraft in all phases of flight helps me to focus and maintain situational awareness. Almost any single pilot or crew will have callouts in their standard operating procedures to do the same. And the fact that your term is Japanese is quite appropriate!

What’s the advantage of using the Honda Test 53 call sign over the N number?
@HondaJetTV
@HondaJetTV 4 ай бұрын
Many pilots at different aircraft manufacturing companies use test call signs to differentiate themselves with Air Traffic Control (ATC). The company and ATC come to an agreement that anyone using their special designation is on official company business, frequently for test purposes and may need some flexibility (for headings, altitudes, etc.) on that particular flight. Companies can also easily track their aircraft as they fly their missions.

You can be a pilot as long as you pass your medicals/physicals. Why does he need oxygen?At 340FL isn’t the cabin pressurized?
@redbull8661
@redbull8661 4 ай бұрын
Here's something I found with a google search because I had the same question, so take it for what it's worth: The FAA requires a pilot to put on the oxygen mask if the other pilot leaves cockpit when cruising above FL250. It also requires that one pilot always wears an oxygen mask when flying above FL410.
@HondaJetTV
@HondaJetTV 4 ай бұрын
Hey, Jonathan the pilot here! You are correct: the cabin is pressurized so the environment at any altitude is friendly to everyone for breathing and temperature control. At FL350 (35,000 feet), a pilot operating and aircraft alone is required to wear an oxygen mask. (You legal eagles can read 14 CFR Part 91.211(b)(1)(ii)). Because I was the only pilot on board that day, I was required to do so. Why? Safety. The air pressure at that altitude is quite low, making it impossible for we mere mortals to breathe. In the unlikely event that the aircraft could no longer pressurize the cabin (a very unlikely scenario for any aircraft), I would already have oxygen feeding my brain and therefore could correctly handle the emergency.
@brandonadams7837
@brandonadams7837 4 ай бұрын
@@HondaJetTVvery unlikely indeed, unless it’s a 737 MAX 😊
@brandonadams7837
@brandonadams7837 4 ай бұрын
@@HondaJetTVperhaps I am not reading the reg correctly, but the way I interpreted that reg would be if the cabin pressure altitude exceeds 14,000. I’d assume the Honda Jet has a much lower cabin pressure altitude. Or does it assume there are two crew?
@igclapp
@igclapp 3 ай бұрын
@@brandonadams7837If the cabin altitude exceeds 14,000 feet, he'd definitely have to be using oxygen. When the systems are working normally, the plane when flying at 35,000 feet will have a cabin pressure of around 8,000 feet or even lower. Of course you do not need to be using an oxygen mask at that cabin altitude, but the point of the 35,000 feet single pilot oxygen rule is that IF the cabin suddenly lost pressurisation at high altitude, a single pilot may not have time to put on a mask before he/she loses consciousness.
