Here’s a shortlist of his recommended intervals. His advice is spot on/golden. Please watch the entire video to get the most out of it. I just wanted to do this write-up so everyone could listen carefully to him without having to pause and write/type. Correct me please, if needed. 😀 “m” means months. “y” means years. “q” means every. “mi” means miles. AT = Automatic Transmission. Fluid = Drain & Fill. Most intervals in a "time/miles" format - in that case, it's whichever comes first. Wipers Honda Inserts w/ OEM Blades - q12m/q12,000mi (whichever first). Filters Cabin & Engine Air - q12m/q12,000-15,000 mi (q10k if in dusty area). Tires Rotation - Every other oil change. Inflation - Every oil change/tire rotation. After any of these tire services - reset/recalibrate TPMS system. Oil Changes Oil Changes - q3k mi (aggressive drivers), q3.5k mi (gentler drivers), at least q5k mi. Transmission Fluid - q15k mi (6AT), q15-30k mi (modded cars), q30k mi (10AT/9AT/CVT). Rear Differential Fluid - 1st one - 7.5k, then q30k. Front Differential Fluid - q30-45k mi, at least q60k. Coolant Fluid - q3-5y/q45-60k mi. Brakes Fluid - 2 y/q30k mi (stock cars). Spark Plugs Plugs - q90-100k mi (stock cars). Belts Drive Belt - 5 y/q75-90k mi. Timing Belt - 7 y/q90-100k. V6 Oil Pump Reseal. Refer to vid for more. PCV PCV Valve - q30-60k mi.

: Do regular inspections of the power steering pump and its plastic suction hose fitting. This can have very minor leaks that go unnoticed. My 2005 TL had a very minor drip from aging suction hose that went down right behind the timing belt cover. Could even see it from the top end. Once I figured it out, I had to take the crank pulley and timing covers off to clean it out. Had to clean the crank sensor as well. cause it easily gets past the timing cover rubber seals. Replacing the suction hose fixed the problem. Also the pumps tend to leak at some point and a quick replacement of all the o-rings on the body and hose fittings is less than $10 & easy (shaft seal leak is more difficult). Only use Honda/Acura Genuine steering fluid. Even the expensive Autozone version can cause new/worse leaks. Also for the love of God people replace your brake fluid regularly. Owners manuals say every 2 years regardless of mileage. If you live in the desert you can go longer, but why risk it. Clean Dry brake fluid makes for happy brake system.

Great video sir. I am a fan of your channel. A couple of things you did not address are cleaning or replacing of MAP or MAS? Also, would be interesting to hear your take on carbon deposits on intake valves on DI engines like Hondas. Also, your take on oil dilution issues. Have they been fixed? I'm not real confident in Honda's "fix". Maybe these could be topics for future videos.
@BCautosolutions

Thank you sir. Map and maf cleaning isn’t a thing, anyone selling that is just trying to rip people off. I could definitely go into di and carbon buildup topics for sure. I’m not worried about the dilution tbh. We have only seen 2-3 cases and it’s typically people with extremely short trips and colder weather.

I need to rotate and balance the tires on my 2005 Honda CR-V EX which has the elusive 5 speed manual transmission. Last oil change I did rotate them and I didn’t like the way it drove, so I switched them back and it drove fine after that. I think they need to be balanced so I will having that done on Tuesday. I don’t see any obvious uneven wear on the tires so I think they’re OK for now. I actually just had all four wheel bearing and hub assemblies replaced as well as all four axles and the front ball joints as well as the brake dust shields, which were completely rotted away. I also completely overhauled the entire braking system including all four pads, rotors, calipers, installed steel braided brake hoses on all 4 corners, all new parking brake cables, shoes, and hardware, and a new brake master cylinder, and that made a huge difference in braking performance. I did all this stuff as part of preventative maintenance. Some of the parts were bad. Some of them were OK, but I figured it was just best to go ahead and replace everything while I was in there and I’m really glad that I did. The car now stops on a dime and it doesn’t have any weird vibrations or noise going down the road anymore. I’m hoping that the rims aren’t bent as is sometimes the case when you get a vibration after rotating tires. But with 211,000 miles, you never know. I guess we’ll find out soon enough.

Thoughts on running 5w-30 in these 1.5 turbo engines but still at 5k interval? Heard it may stay thicker towards the end of the interval than a 20 by the time you dilute it with some fuel and run it through a hot turbo.

I have a 2021 CR-V ex AWD I don't have far to go to work 10 to 15 min highway driving. My questions are would high test gas possibly help to keep oil dilution low? As well as as you mentioned help with head gasket failure. Last question, I get an oil change based off time vs miles example I have 10679 miles and have an oil change every 4 months. I've been ignoring the maintenance minder fort while I have not done the rear differential yet would you suggest doing it earlier thank you.
@BCautosolutions
@BCautosolutions Жыл бұрын
So top tier or higher octane fuel won’t help with the dilution. According to Honda that issue has been resolved although we know dilution is not uncommon with direct injection applications. Higher octane fuel will certainly help preventing head gasket failures imo tho. I would for sure ignore the maintenance minder and get that rear diff fluid changed 👍🏻

I think all the other maint items do apply but not sure on the PCV valve and the V6 oil pump? Thanks in advance for your help!
@BCautosolutions
@BCautosolutions Жыл бұрын
So yes, Pilot gets all the fluids essentially. As far as the drive belt, wait until the timing belt is needed as they are typically done at the same time and would be throwing money out to do drive belt earlier. As far as the oil pump reseal only if it’s leaking at the time of the timing belt. Pcv valve also should be done in your vehicle yes

Considering the very low usage, I would consider all major fluids every 15-20k and even with that it’s probably on the aggressive side. Only thing that “goes bad” with time is brake fluid due to it picking up moisture and should be done every 2 years. I’d be more concerned with belts, hoses, etc… anything rubber really.

Question: Just bought a new Civic. Does Honda (2 year or 24,000 mile free maintenance program) allow oil and fluid changes earlier than the "maintenance minders" say they are needed? I would love to get an oil change at 3K miles. Will they allow it?

Most dealers will sticky follow the maintenance minded system. What you can do is change the oil yourself before the ln at whatever mileage and don’t reset the maintenance light. When it comes on, take it in for their oil change.

Good points! Any info about PCV valve you want to share? Most of the maintenance you are suggesting are close to what I was doing to my 2010 Acura RL(recently sold it). Changed oil every 3k miles where as Maintenance Minder(MM) indicated about 4300k miles. That 3.7L engine was very hard on oil and by 3k miles, the oil could drop to 1/4th on the dipstick and by that time, it just made sense to change the oil. As for the transfer case and transmission fluid, the MM would indicate about 30k miles and fluid was still nice and pink. I usually don't bother with coolant replacement unless it begins to change color and is not clean. As for the brake fluid, I look at the color and also use the tool to check how much water is in it and act accordingly. Now with Acura Integra I got, I don't know yet what my plan for oil change will be and how a fuel dilution(if any) situation will play out.
