my top tip would be practise to a metronome, start slow, master chords, notes, scales and then notch it up little by little.

Jack thank you so much for making a video that's actually helpful because it's about the reality of being a guitar player, instead of our online built dream world. I have some comparable thoughts about guitar videos (although I love them): they make it seem like it all matters, but who cares about the small blemish on the guitar, what pickups it has, which overdrive pedal you use. The online guitar community seems to forget that we make music for audiences, and the audience only cares about a few things: -Can they hear you well? -Is your guitar and your playing in tune? -Are you playing rhythmically? -Are you having fun on stage? So again, thanks for making a video about this side of things! Keep up the great work!

Top tier advice there Jack! The first one is so important, there is so much content on IG whise sole purpose is to work the algorithm rather than content of just someone enjoying themselves play guitar. Im trying to play more often and enjoy it rather than try and film it.

Thank you mate! You're totally right. I've no doubt a lot of people like it but I'm burnt out on the shortform hamster wheel too and I don't think it really serves any purpose. Playing more is all that matters and if you want to share it for the sake of just showing something you're proud of then that's totally legit. Making 6 trillion reels a month to watch follower numbers go up (if we're lucky) is pointless to me 😂

That sounds like a solid plan man! And I totally know how that feels, it's pretty much the reason I've not been in a band for years 😂 But stay focused on you, get some music out, and it'll all straighten itself out in the wash! Cheers my dude 🤘

Rock on bro . I am serious about getting better at guitar . I will watch this later. I am intending to study harmony and study japanese music and prog metal at university. Your picking technique and your legato are fantastic ! I want to sweep pick too . Anyway keep on being positive ! I'll watch this later today ❤ I see an album cover !! I cannot wait to hear your album I prefer learning what i love too bro !! I have spent ofuntless months learning polyphia to realise that learning polyphia was way too difficult and it made me miserable dude 😅. I like them but the negative comments sucked

Okay so I was incredibly motivated by this video, I really appreciate it Jack! Lately I've been a bit down on myself and wondering why am I learning riffs, solos and songs ? Writing music is super important to me and it's one of the things that keeps me inspired to play guitar. The first tunes I wrote were not the most mind blowing things ever but I have written some music that I am proud of. When I wrote it I was writing all my parts out in guitar pro and I learnt a lot about arpeggios because I was writing melodies with arpeggios. Previously I had not studied arpeggios. I got that idea by watching an interview with Matt Bellamy from Muse ( one of my favourite composers, guitarists and musicians) and he said that he liked to use arpeggios a lot. And I've realised now after learning many Muse songs I've discovered that they absolutely do utilise arpeggios to spice up their songs . That helped me to write a song that I still am proud of. And as you said, I've learnt that listening to other people does not help me . However! My guitar teacher who happens to like prog and metal too has helped me a lot! So I do find his advice helps me . Also I find your advice quite helpful too Jack! There's plenty of guitarists who I would not want to take advice from . For example anyone who is a full on blues player or a jazz player is someone I am not going to listen to . Though! I quite like the guitar tone of Eric Johnson , he also plays some lovely solos , so I would actually like to learn from him. but preferably it would be a metal or prog or rock person! Or even a jazz fusion player as long as they don't force me to play jazz Anyway thank you for the awesome video!! :)

Cheers bro! I'm glad it could help in some way. It's all about being selective in what and who you choose to listen to. There's good and bad on every side but as long as you keep going for what you want then you'll smash it. All the best man! 🤘

"Guitar is hard" _Meanwhile I'm learning Sentient Glow as my first Periphery and "Djent " tune, with a guitar that has a terrible setup._ 🤪 That aside, great advices, dude. The best thing a starting or intermediate players could do, is unsubscribing from all those amazing players. Or at least, stop gawking at their playing all the time, practice and play the damn instrument instead.

That's a good one bro, I hope it's going well for you! Thank you man, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'm actually with you on that, or at least be responsible with it an understand that you're watching a super polished product that isn't necessarily the real deal. There are plenty of good ones out there though! 🤘

@@JackTaylorGuitars Sentient Glow is a big challenge, but a fun one nonetheless, gotta put the Plini X plugin I finally able to purchase to good use after all, and even when it was on discount, it wasn't cheap on my end. And without the transpose feature, I wouldn't have been able to do the Silvera cover and actually try to learn Sentient Glow, on a guitar that is usually only in E standard tuning. And yeah, there are amazing people that could do stuffs in a single take, of course, we just didn't see the takes that failed. Even with my subpar, single take Silvera cover, even that took me quite some tries, and there are still mistakes in there. I just rolled with it and upload it, or else, it'll never see the light of day. Perfectionism is the enemy of progress and social media amplifies that many folds.
