If you understand horror, you understand what makes someone's fear act up. By knowing what can trigger fear, you can easily avoid it. Not just fear, but negative emotions. This could help in creating something that is the antithesis of horror since you know exactly what horror is about. The same way the nicest folks you run into probably went through a ton of trauma. They understand trauma, they can easily empathize with pain so they don't want to inflict it on others. I feel like this is one of those things that's just insanely obvious if you think about it for a second. I'm generalizing a lot, obviously. Hell, this might even be sophistry. but I feel like there might be some truth somewhere in there.

Well the game was written and directed by a guy who has never wrote horror before. In fact, he has never wrote anything ever before this, the guy was a codemonkey fueled by sheer passion. Kinda sad when you compare that to the 6 professionals who worked as a writing team on Forspoken in a way.

The artstyle reminds me of another game that was a complete tonal departure. EX Troopers. The bright, colorful, anime-inspired spinoff of Lost Planet.

I can't really articulate how much I love this game. This singlehandly brought back my love for gaming in general when I was just starting to think maybe I'm too old for games. Rather than being too old for games it just feels like a lot of games just aren't trying to be fun anymore. Everything is about earning an extra dollar rather than giving an enjoyable experience. of course it's not like I've played every game that's come out but Hi-Fi Rush certainly reminded me why I love games in the first place.

I noticed a long time ago that truly creative people are able to make a story around a negative emotion and another story around positive emotion. It truly shows that they can make a variety of stories.

Once I got into it, I found this game to be an absolute blast. I loved the artstyle, I loved the characters, and I LOVED the rhythm-based gameplay. And yes, the soundtrack is AWESOME.

Just imagine. The Tarnished descending down to battle Rahdan and, just as the elevator hits the bottom... "Somebody once told me-" And then Rahdan bursts into the arena and proceeds to wipe the floor with you in tune to 'All Star'.

Spoilers** This is easily one of the best games I've ever played. The artstyle, the music list, the novel gameplay and the writing. Easily a top contender for GOTY 2023 and an entry in all "games of the decade" lists as well. Not to mention how each boss battle had me grinning ear to ear with the time synced cutscenes. And the Korsica boss battle has to be the most unique boss battle I've ever done in a while!! Had me literally squealling all the time. That rhythm parry system is easily one of the greatest game mechanics ever!

Rythm Parry was well implemented in Sekiro but without the overall music, still the same cadency

@@victorafjp you're talking about finding the rhythm to enemy movement and parrying right? I'm specifically talking about that whole setpiece rhythm parry mechanic where you need to use it for certain big enemies and Bosses

@@dhivydhimanth1960 Essentialy Sekiro was a Rythm Game without the DDR background. Hi Fi has the potential to make it to another whole level if they polish a little fight controls and the camera (sometimes is really impossible to dodge or parry attacks) but still, hope they polish that into more a Platinum Style gameplay keeping the rythm game and the ludicrous Borderlands 2 story setting (Being PG13 still). I'm already sold for a sequel and more Korsica in my life.

I am so happy to see someone use not-as-widely-known titles such as Parappa, Jet Set Radio and Darksiders as a mix to describe this game with. Alongside the name of Macho Woman Rekka Savage (Oooooh yeeeeaaaah) and other parts, this video was a proper delight. In regards to games that mix music with other gameplay, i'd recommend checking out No Straight Roads which came out a few years earlier for something that's closest to this style-- though much shorter, more boss-centric, a bit rougher, and being a debut game by its respective studio. But the style, love and effort put into it absolutely bursts through. Other music mixer games would be Bullets Per Minute and Metal: Hellsinger (FPS on rhythm), Crypt of the Necrodancer, and the upcoming God of Rock (music Fighter). Thanks for taking the time to have made this video!

I finished it, playing it again, it's one of the most fun (and funniest!) games I've ever played. I hope they'll take their time making a sequel and give it just as much love and care

This was a really special game and I hope it did REALLY well. Seriously, they did good with Hi-Fi Rush, and it's incredible how well they pulled off a shadow drop release for a new IP.

So far, it's had 2 million players according to Bethesda, and that's only about a month after release. That number will probably be significantly higher by the end of the year, especially since it's on GP. Also, I think Bethesda themselves said they were pleased with the sales and engagement of Hi Fi Rush.

Its funny because DMC 1 was supposed to be Resident Evil 4 and that one definitely still had horror elements but they told Kamiya make a new IP bc combat was to complex and far from traditional Resident Evil. So it is very fitting that Hi-Fi Rush also comes from the guys who made survival horror games like Evil Within who actually had Shinji Mikami behind it who also had in Devil May Cry and Resident Evil was the founder of Tango Gameworks which is the team that made this game.

Finished it and its absolutely fantastic.. Great humor, gameplay and soundtrack. A new fresh original game that does something actually new made by a triple A studio??? Gues miracles do still exist. Here's hoping they continue with this kind of innovation.

It's funny you mention wishing more games had a soundtrack to play the beat to. I used to play the Arkham games in my colleges rec room where they had PlayStation on one side and Xbox on the other so while I'm playing Arkham City on one side someone else is playing Guitar Hero on the other side. Now I can't play any of the Arkham Games without listening to Message in a Bottle, Heart Shaped Box, or other Guitar Hero songs in the background.

I find it funny most of the gameplay complaints here are actually fixable if you use the "Crypt of the Necrodancer" styled beatbar in the Options menu. The good thing about the game is that the rhythm is optional, but you get bonuses if you attack, dodge, etc to the beat.

Heavily seconded! It might not be as all-out in terms of scope or refined/complex in terms of gameplay in comparison to Hi-Fi Rush, but it's an *absolute* love letter to music with great style, fun world and characters, and a clear amount of love and effort from both the devs and fans. The fan art event for the Encore Edition can attest to that. Plus, with the Encore Edition, all bosses now have around 5 versions of their themes (Base, EDM, Rock, Christmas and Special Remix). If THAT doesn't exemplify the love for the music and its world, i don't know what will. The upcoming God of Rock also seems like it'll be interesting.
