I can honestly say that J. Worthington Foulfellow (aka Honest John) and his bumbling partner and sidekick Gideon are easily the most entertaining villains from Disney’s Pinocchio.

I think it's a matter of possibility of someone reporting to authorities. If Honest John is okay with murder, it means he's confident enough with his skills to leave no evidence or witnesses behind. But Pleasure Island is something that leaves people alive but cursed so there's no guarantee that someone would NOT snitch until the Coachman reassured him that there's no risk. Yikesssss

He was voiced by Mel blanc of looney toons and would have dialogue but he was latter mute and only had hiccups ( provided by Mel blanc)

So true. One of the greatest songs from one of the greatest Disney soundtracks ever. To be honest, I never really liked “Little Wooden Head”, but the four other ones which are undeniable highlights, I absolutely love.

That's because the song ultimately represents corruption in Pinocchio's story so It's used as a sorta leitmotif whenever he's coaxed into bad behavior (ex. Honest John & Gideon, Pleasure Island)

I heard that originally they were supposed to show up again after Pinocchio escapes from Pleasure Island. Once again they tried to con Pinocchio but that's when the police showed up and arrested them. It turns out they have been on the run scamming people and other crimes. That's why John was scared when Jiminy whistled, he thought it might have them a police officer. Also why he wasn't in on the whole Pleasure Island trick because he feared the police. He was worried he would get caught. But the scene was cut due to it being too long. But you know it's a good lesson because sometimes the criminal gets away with it. This movie didn't have a good ending, the good ending was Pinocchio escaping, that was the good ending. Only he escapes, those other boys don't have their Blue Fairy to protect them. Pinocchio was lucky he had her. She always there watching over him even if she wasn't in person.

To me I think that was one of the best decisions they’ve made. Giddy works so well without dialogue.

Actually he did minor noises for the character such as his hiccups. They originally wanted Dopey to also be voiced by Mel Blanc but they made him mute instead. So technically, Gideon was still voiced by Mel Blanc.

In the books they get a very sad ending. There, the gimmick is that the cat pretends to be blind and the fox pretends to have a limp - and yes, these are their names in the books, the cat and the fox. At the end of the story Pinocchio meets them again, and they’ve fallen from grace: the Cat has truly turned blind after pretending to be for so long, and the Fox has fallen into such squalid misery he had to sell his lustrous tail as a fly sweeper. Now begging at the side of the road, they implore Pinocchio to helm them, but he’s like “screw you, I’m not a fool anymore” and leaves them hanging.

after I read this, I actually had a bit of a better theory for this: what if pleasure islands curse just decides to sometime switch the animals that people would become atleast once a month? and that it just decided on both cats and foxes when john and gideon were on, while it decided on donkeys when pinocchio was on it??

it's funny how in earlier draft of the movie they were gonna be arrested while attempting to trick pinocchio a 3rd time but it was cut just for pacing reasons. (esp since this was released a time where bad guys getting away w/ their deeds was some kinda media taboo) I honestly prefer it that way bc I think it would've been weird for these 2 to get arrested while nothing happens to stromboli and the coachman--either they should all get their comeuppance or none of them should and the movie chose none lol

It does seem like the philosophy of the movie is that evil is not something you need to fight but instead is just something out there that you should be responsible enough to avoid.

Pinocchio bit the cat’s paw off but he didn’t know it was the cat plus the fox and the cat were chasing him as assistants anyway. It was self defense. Also Pinocchio did start off as being bad but he became better by the end of the book.
