Thank you so much for sharing all of this information. I lost alot of weight and now gained some back. It’s hard to grasp the reality some days, but ultimately I know it’s for the best. My body is happy, but my mind still plays tricks from time to time. Being gentle with myself along the way. ❤

I just found your channel and just want to give you a hug. Keep pressing on!! It can be so discouraging when we discover that we were actually harming ourselves instead of helping, but all we can do is learn and grow!!! And be forgiving, of course. ❤ As for breastfeeding and no periods ... I can only speak to my daughter and daughters-in-law experiences. They all start their periods while still breastfeeding. My most recent grandchild, for example, is about 6 months old and her mom started having periods about 2 months ago ... and currently the baby still hasn't had any food besides the breast milk. (This was her 3rd baby.) I'm just sharing this so other new moms who read it can know that it's very normal to have your period come back even when baby is still quite young. God bless you! Side note - I found you while trying to find tips on overseas traveling while wfpb ... the videos of yours that I found were all for traveling within the States and I wondered if you had one for overseas. I will not have a "home base" or consistent hotel to go back to each day, and for at least a week I'll be pretty remote with very limited food options. I don't use the microwave, so that might limit me even more. (Though I realize I might be forced to use it ... I'll survive 😅 ) I do plan on buying a small slow cooker or pressure cooker when I arrive at the first place ... a very populated area of England. After that, though, we are heading into remote places of Scotland and Ireland. It will be a fun adventure and since it's been difficult finding wfpb tips for my upcoming situation, I'll probably do vlogs to hopefully help others and help me to remember for next time. We'll see. 😊❤

I would absolutely love to see your overseas flogs. Sorry, I do not have any videos on this topic. But Europe should have more accessible whole food options than America. So I wouldn’t be too concerned. Thanks for sharing your family’s experiences with breastfeeding and getting their periods back. That’s super helpful! Enjoy your trip! Oh, and microwaves are perfectly healthy. I wrote a research article on this if you’re interested

Thank you for the intelligent, articulate and courageous way in which you have answered our questions. It's so helpful. I am glad you are still eating healthily (when I binged I just ate junk food unfortunately and over the years my set point went from 54kgs to almost 80kgs so I'll be interested to hear what you think about stabilising our weight). I am sure everyone here will join me in wishing you the very best Karli, lots of love and happiness. Merry Christmas and a healthy, peaceful and wonderful new year to you and all your family! So pleased to hear you found Tabitha and also looked into the Minnesota starvation studies. I am sooooo proud of you.💗💗💗 Def agree with the 12mths for body to destabilise the weight, and even if the weight stays the same it's like we seem to lose fat and gain muscle and bone. And YES YES what you said about "extra body" STILL affects my ability to get into certain yoga poses, it's very discouraging and I miss feeling so incredibly flexible and stable. I'm quite intrigued as to where you got the idea that last meal should be 2-3pm? From my investigations most plant based docs do recommend an evening meal even if light, and not fasting more than 14ish hours. I wish I had you as support and information when I had my own journey!😚😚😚

Hi Sandy! The 2-3: meal was recommended extensively by the research done by Dr. Hana Kahleova, Dr Satchin Panda, and Dr. David Sinclair. The most impressionable data was from the Adventist study. They often ate an early dinner with a short feeding window but their health and longevity may or may not have been attributable to this. It all seems so obvious now how I got myself into this mess, but it’s also helpful to reflect and make sure I don’t make the same mistakes again. I’m certainly not going to go to such extremes with my health again. Always nice to hear from you!😘

Hi! This video was SO helpful and relatable. I am recovering from HA, just got my period back after 3 + years and 20 pounds of weight gain. You are the first person who has ever mentioned the waking up and using the restroom which ME. The other night was the first time in years I slept through the night but still working on that. Can you make a video on the CBT therapy? I definitely have been struggling with body image :( I ran d1 cross country and still run a lot and my brain has really struggled with feeling like I don’t look like a runner anymore :(

I’m very happy for you Karli that your health is improving slowly, it must have been a very frightening,frustrating and emotional journey for you. I’m curious if your partner has noticed improvements in your mood and general wellbeing. I’ve never understood intermittent fasting. I always felt getting a good nights sleep was by default, fasting. I can tell you though that as you age you can’t digest food as well as you did when you’re younger and you naturally fall into eating your main meal in the morning or lunchtime and and the other meals much lighter especially the evening meal. That’s the joy of getting old. ❤❤

Thank you for sharing your journey Karli. I have recently stopped IF despite being overall happy with it because I want to see if it is the reason my cholesterol has been difficult to lower despite being WFPB, no oils, no dairy, etc. I started IF in 2017, at the time my cholesterol was in the 180 range despite being on a “healthy” version of the SAD diet. After starting IF my cholesterol started to increase in increments until 2 years ago when it reached 259. My Doctor suggested a statin which I refused and instead went plant based. Despite being plant based and not eating lots of cholesterol laden foods my cholesterol is now 226. It has improved going plant based but not “plummeted” as so many claim. The reason I suspect IF may be causing it is that year over year graph showing the steady increase since I stared IF. My husband and I have the same diet and have both done IF and he has had almost identical cholesterol numbers. He wants to keep doing IF and I have stopped so it will be interesting in a few months to compare. Do you know of any link between IF and increased cholesterol markers? Thank you

Not sure how old you are and don't know if this is true, but I've heard that dropping estrogen can cause an increase in cholesterol, specifically ldl. I haven't look into it much though. Have you heard this?

Hello, I have been through this process myself. Tabitha Farrar and Kayla Rose Ketucky ( Damn the diets) helped me so much. I have recovered from anorexia thanks to this. It has been 4 years now. If I may give you an advice, you should trye to eat some processed food. I was like you at first, I did not want processed food. But I discovered I was not completely free from my eating discorder. It was semi recovery. To be really free and have a good health, we need to not be afraid of any food. I have a recovery French KZfaq channel now. You are doing great appart from that. Bravo for your courage. I know how hard it is. Sarah

Do think this was the result of a well-intentioned regiment morphing into an eating/exercise disorder? I have noticed that can happen when trying to follow so many rules and adding more and more requirements on to an already strict routine. It has happened to me in the past and when I notice myself getting too "devout" I make sure to back off, though I will never change my plant-based diet, which I think is the ideal diet. Thank you for sharing your journey with us!

Hi Karli, how do you know that your hunger signals are real? I’ve read that our brains do a great job of deceiving us into thinking that the body needs more food when it might not… but perhaps that only happens with addiction to sugar? And isn’t there a satiety factor in terms of stomach volume? I’m sure I just don’t know enough about what you’re describing but I get anxious thinking that I can actually trust my body/brain! Thanks for sharing your journey.
@NaturallyKarli
@NaturallyKarli 6 ай бұрын
I think we all get anxious about trusting our body’s signals bc many industries make money from the confusion and doubt. In all, if we eat the foods that match our body’s design, then absolutely we can trust our hunger drive. I think hunger signals are real when you don’t crave something specific- it’s when everything sounds appetizing. Even raw celery😉

Me too, it came to the point when I just couldn't trust myself and used the low-energy excuse to just binge on pizza, pain au chocolat, etc. It was horrible and embarrassing how quickly I would put on the weight, and by the time I stopped bingeing I would be a few stones heavier and had even lower energy as well as depression and even suicidal thoughts, so I fully understand your concerns. I am only happy when I'm slim, this may be wrong but that's how I feel.

I'm not particularly thin or exercising a lot but I've had all the symptoms for years. No doctor's been able to find anything wrong with me. Just starting the "all-in" journey myself for the second time. Ugh. Three years ago I tried the junk food method and felt horrible. This time around I'm WFPB! Do you know @JessieRiemann 's channel? She talks alot about the psychological side of recovery and how to improve the way you feel about your body.

Thank you, very interesting video! You can be so proud of what you achieved. If you want to learn more about fiber, I can recommend the book "Fiber Fueled" by Dr. Will Bulsiewicz ('the gut health MD'). More fiber is not always better. And especially when you need to add more calories, it can become just too much. I notice you mentioned nuts and dried foods as 'a bit processed', but these foods are really considered whole foods.

Oh, I must’ve misspoke. Nuts are definitely whole foods. I just don’t consider dried fruit whole since it’s missing the water content and thus altering how we metabolize it in the body. Yes, I agree lol. I probably ate way too much fiber!

Ok, I see! I always wondered... if you drink the same amount of water that was originally in the fruit, doesn't it have the same end result? I guess not, but I never learnt why. @@NaturallyKarli
@NaturallyKarli

Actually it is metabolized much differently without the water- the calorie content dramatically increases with dehydration. When we drink water it is metabolized directly through the stomach. When we eat it with food it is digested through the entire GI tract with the rest of the food. So interesting!

There are studies that show that protein is not created equally. There is a difference between high quality protein that contains enough leucine and other amino acids for protein synthesis compared to low quality protein you’ll find in beans and other plant based proteins. Please look into it further. However, this was a great video and great job on your progress!
