Very early IU sounds more mature than later IU. IU said she was upset when she first saw her 'Real IU' album cover. She was still very much a child and freaked out over the depiction of 'grown-up' IU.

In the early days, IU was praised by composers as a singer who understood the intention of a composer or producer well and achieved it well. Of course, it could have been a compliment from being young, but at that time she seems to have focused on getting it done. I think that's one of the differences between her singing style then and now.
