Here is an honest review and flip through of what we used for my 4th graders Grammar this past year, Fix It Grammar (Book 1). We loved the ease of this curriculum and I wanted to give you a flip through for what all is taught from beginning to end.

Is this a different way of doing grammar than how you learned or how you thought it could be taught? It completely transformed my idea(s) of teaching grammar!

What is a good writing curriculum to accompany this fix-it- grammar? I just can’t seem to find something for my 9 year old who is struggling with writing. Thank you for the thorough review of this program!

Good question! I am currently researching that myself!! Some of the ones I am going to be investigating are "Brave Writer" and The Good and the Beautiful's 4th grade LA (has their writing workshop worked into it), and any others I may find (Sonlight, Masterbooks, etc possibly)

Is this program enough to replace language arts from the good and the beautiful? My son hates TG&TB. This looks easier and much more simple.

I haven’t used THTB LA all the east through personally but it does go in depth. I don’t know if it would hit so concepts you’re looking for since we haven’t done all levels but you could totally check the scope and sequence to see!

This curriculum sounds wonderful. My 6 year old will be starting 1st grade in the fall. We are using TGATB but I would like to add this on top of it. I see your child was writing cursive. What age is appropriate to start this?

It’s really great, especially the new version that just came out. However the kiddo doing this was a 4th grader in the video and I honestly wouldn’t go lower than 3rd or 4th grade for starting this. It starts off slowly but goodness does it much deeper and more difficult, too much so for a first grader. As far as cursive I usually start that the end of the first semester of first grade or beginning of the second. I really like Abeka for that!!!!

Also really they don’t need LA until 4th or so. There is so much more understanding then!

Would a child that's never had any grammar need to start in book one The Nose Tree? Or, could they start in book 2, Robinhood? I guess I am wanting to know if they go in order. Thanks!

I would start in book 1 for ANYONE, no matter how much grammar they have had previously. It really builds upon itself and oh my word it is so good. I actually have been sad we didn't do it again this year (might pull it in mid year) because it has made a more traditional English curriculum we chose this year easier to understand. For example, prepositions and prepositional phrases. Those are hard to remember and find, and as we were learning about them in the new English program, my kid was struggling, until he basically started to "fix it grammar" the whole sentence, and then he found them easily because he had the "feel" of them (best way I know to describe it). It was a great moment of "oh this really works and is good!" for us

@@MyCathedralGarden we decided to start in The Nose Tree and it is difficult, even for me! We are going to stick with it and hope it clicks. I guess it's the source text that makes it so difficult.

@@SheResellsSeashells oh I hate that it has been difficult! Luckily it is a shorter subject. One sentence and DONE! My only piece of advice is do it every single day and you will get into a good rhythm. It was difficult for my guy at the beginning remembering all he was supposed to do, but it got better! Keep me updated!
