I picked up the NEW Professional Edition Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer. Is it worth the price?? In this video I test it out on my team member Alanna. I will admit I was a bit surprised by the results. Let me know if you have one or plan on getting one.

Contacted Dyson, I wanted to explore getting their dryers in my salon. Was told that they couldn’t provide a discount on purchases, I then discovered their warranty didn’t cover much either. Reading the comments below, glad I’ve held off. I’d have to question spending a crazy amount on a blow dryer and then be faced with the potential challenge of having a manufacture that doesn’t stand behind their products 100%

After 6 months using this in my salon it started having problems, not just me but another stylist as well who bought it at the same time. While it was working properly I loved it and did see a difference from a regular professional blow dryer as far as the finish and feel of the hair. But using it on 12+ clients a day has taken toll on the motor and heating element, I just don't feel that it is "Professional" enough or sturdy enough for the amount of use that I put it through on a daily basis. As someone who takes pride in their tools and did daily maintenance as suggested by Dyson to end up with problems so early I don't think its ready for prime time, I have many clients that own one and it is working well for them but for my use at this high of a price point I don't think its worth the price.

I just got this dryer and after reading the fine print regarding warranty....it states it is not for commercial use. Wow! That might be how they "get around" stylists that put it through its paces. Only a 2 year warranty as well. That being said, I was truly surprised how well it works. I have very thick, long hair (passed my shoulders) and usually when drying my hair with a "normal" dryer, I heat up my bathroom 1,000 degrees, my arms are fatigued, the small of my back hurts from arcing it to reach the back of my head, and I become misserable. The Dyson did not. Right from the shower dripping, I use the Dyson to get my hair to a rough blow out, damp hair and then click on the attachment to blow dry to a style. Takes me 10 mins tops. No joke! It use to take me no less than 25 mins with clipping off sections, blah, blah, blah. Worth $400? Not super convinced on the hefty price tag. But, was surprised it did what it claimed that it could do. It's a keeper!

Unfortunately, I have had this experience with other Dyson products. I only had my vacuum for 1.5 years and the hose cracked. They sent me a replacement for free because I hadn’t had it for long, but they were going to charge me at first. I was like no, not for what I paid for this vacuum will you charge me. Now almost three years later the piece on the nozzle that attachments click too fell off. Mind you, it was connect by what looks like plain old glue. My old Bissell vacuum latest me over 10+ years with nothing breaking - granted it lost suction eventually, but good is suction if the vacuum isn’t working?

My boss has the original consumer version of the Dyson and she loves it except for one thing. The attachment, which is held on by a magnet, falls off quite often when she's speeding through a client's hair. Do you feel the magnet is better on this pro version? The results are beautiful though. I'm glad to hear that it's a little lighter than the original consumer version as well.

Should note both people I know with this absolutely love the product itself, just had trouble getting it repaired. I wanted to see if it would be good for drying my dog. I bought a "professional" dog blow dryer for $80 (on sale at the time and regularly about $130 I think). There is no way this Dyson can dry my dog's coat as quickly or as well as my dryer. Also, every Dyson vac I've owned (4 total - 2 were gifts), has had problems within 1 year. Motor whining noise, over heats, the ball got stuck on one, filters require a semester at MIT to install and getting the correct replacement sent to my house was like pulling teeth. So to answer my own question, "No, I will not purchase a 400-$500 hair dryer for my dog... Or anyone else's." Send them to Mars where the jacked up cost of everything else will be in line with Dyson's insane pricing scheme.

I purchased this dryer and initially loved it BUT had to replace under warranty within a year. My second dryer just died the same way and it isn't under warranty anymore. This is a very expensive hunk of junk that will not stand up to time. Yes it is great when it works but that seems short lived.

Not a true test. You started on one side with the Dyson. The other side had a chance to dry a bit while you started drying on the Dyson side. So it did not take is much to dry when you started the second side. You should've re-wet the second side before starting.

I just bought it and tried it. It doesn t dry hair faster. Hair is a little bit more softer. A blowdryer with ionic function for 100 eur would do the same job.

This is what perplexed me with the first? Why Dyson retailed to domestic and pro, the same dryer? Its obvious we need a more reliable tool... that has longevity. I can't justify paying top dollar for someone sold for domestic use, too. Im gonna wait to see how "this" pro lives out! I can risk paying out that much. I could own 5 collexias for 1 of these

You can buy any crap, pro or consumer. The crap is all the same these days, the days of "pro" stuff being better is long gone.

Mine is doing the same after 8 months. Dyson just told me to clean the filter and unplug it. I told them I'm a professional and clean the filter daily.

It’s clear that the Dyson makes hair much more limp. I love the technology, but not good for someone who has fine hair and needs to add body. 😏

Tiny Violet have you tried using it? Any hair dryer can give you volume. It depends on if you’re over directing the hair against its natural fall or not.

Yes. I own it and I’ve owned other ionic dryers including T3. Same results. If you know something I don’t, please share! I’d love to use the Dyson. It was too pricey to let it sit in a drawer, but I’ve never had good luck with ionic tech. My best friend is my stylist, so I grill her on the regular about my hair care. I’ve dried upside down and sideways and every way in between. I’ve used volumising products and still no luck. In addition to leaving my hair limp, it also dries my hair out due to the way it dries hair-not allowing the moisture to adhere to the hair shaft resulting in faster drying and hair drying out. Back to my good ole non-ionic Solano.
