Thanks for doing this Tom. My KJ is on my deck. I lost connection on the other end of the house with the booster sitting on the side shelf. Once I moved the booster into the house, I had no issues with lost connection inside. It may be worth playing around with the booster to find how far you can move it from the probe to get optimal connection in the house.

From watching KZfaq demos from actual buyers. Not sponsors , I haven't seen "1" (wireless thermometer) yet that does what you think it should totally do. All hype so far from sponsors who are trying to sell as many units as possible before someone invents a "real one" that doesn't have the flaws shown in these videos. I wouldn't take any of these wireless thermometers serious. You will always have to compromise on your thoughts of " Is this really what I thought I was getting"? All good from the people putting out these reviews to expose the sponsor marketing BS! 🤬🤬

I had no issues with my first use of this probe. I sat the base just inside my house, maybe 10' from my grill through 1 wall. The range to my phone worked though my entire house through all walls and even about 1/2 block from my house when I left to run to the store.

The temp stick works good until I close the door on my smoker and it loses signal. Defeats the purpose of using a wireless thermometer if you have to open the door for it to reconnect. Works fine in my grill but it was purchased to use in the smoker for long smoke jobs.

If you're saying the ambient temp reading is as much as 15-20F off, that's absolutely not reliable enough for smoking when you're trying to stay between 225-250. That tells me I'm still going to need to set up a separate grill probe, which ultimately negates a lot of the main selling points of this device.

I don't think the booster has to reside directly next to the cooking source, so if you placed it indoors (assuming it's relatively close to your cooker) it should alleviate the "between wall" falloff. However, I'm cooking on a ceramic Kamado Joe, so not sure if this will inhibit the broadcast range. I'm going to pick one up this week and report back on this range question.

I bought one and found the same issues you had. As soon as I went in the house, I lost connection. I can’t think of a time I would ever want to sit next to the smoker for hours with monitor temperature. The probe was within 2 degrees F of my Pit Boss probe, so accuracy was great. I’m going to return mine. Hopefully they will figure out how to go through wood, glass and siding on the next iteration.

Just used mine for the first time on a turkey. Both temperatures were inaccurate by about 15° for the internal and 25° off an the ambient temp. I like the concept, but if there is not a way to calibrate the temps to become accurate is a paper weight.

Might want to do an ice water glass calibration. I hope it helps. I see a lot people say this one is relatively accurate and compares well to a Thermoworks one.

I had the same problem. I put a butt on at 3:30 am, as soon as I got back to the bedroom it lost connection, and I don't have a huge house. I found that if I put the booster next to the firewall in the garage, so probably no more than 25 feet away from the smoker, I could roam around the house without losing connection. I was disappointed with that. Also, I agree that the ambient is off because it's too close to the meat. It might not be a great choice for smaller cuts like ribs or steak because you need to bury it so deep to cover the line so you don't damage the meat probe sensor, seemed to work good for a butt though.

Cheers for the review, I didn't even know ThermoPro had come out with one of these. Hopefully they'll look at Bluetooth to Wi-Fi, like Meater Block does as that does help in these type of situations?

I would appreciate a more detailed description of where the base station was relative to your position inside the house...was your grill between the base station and your phone? And how far from the probe can you place the base station?

Thanks for Watching! Per the instructions, base station/charger next to the grill. Don’t want to go further than that. The station as relative to the house was 10’, had reception in the kitchen 20’ lost reception in the bedroom 35’

For me the main point of a wireless probe is not having to deal with the wires, so this looks very interesting, I'm a big fan of Thermoworks hardware already and I don't need too much range. One huge advantage of a wireless probe is being able to use it for rotisserie cooks, my question is if this device can resist the direct heat it's exposed to each time it comes around to the face the open coals and their direct heat; I usually use lump charcoal on one side of the cook only.

Just picked this up on sale for $48. Going to try it out with some steaks tonight. I switched over to only owning a blackstone a year or so ago and have had issues over cooking my steaks a bit after the switch. Hoping this will help out with that

Make sure you clean the carbon off of the ambient side because the probe will not charge if it has build up on that side. Found that out the hard way 😂😂😂

My inkbird stays connected all over my house, but my smoker is 6' from a large window - so not much to go thru to get the signal indoors. This would probably work for me.

@@TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ Hey Tom!! I just received my Temp Spike and put it through its preliminary paces. As of this point this allows me to bring the base unit into the house (about 20 feet fro my smoker) and I completely stay connected as I venture down into my basement!!! The probe is just sitting inside my smoker. I only have a El cheapo offset. I wonder how much difference I'd see with a more substantially built smoker. I can only get about 5 feet inside my house before I lose connection from the probe to the base unit. I have to say I am completely stoked as of this point!!! I will come back and update you after I cook with it!!! It's going to be sub zero this weekend so it might be a week or two. Many thanks again for your previous insight. I sure hope this thing ends up being awesome. It is thus far no doubt.
